Reinforced Concrete is very important area of Civil Engineering. Various significant development has been made in this area such as use of high performance concrete, self compacting concrete, corrosion resistance high strength steel, optimum design and detailing etc. to build-up civil infrastructure across the world. The primary objective of this short course is to introduce latest development and updation in reinforced concrete materials briefly and then to provide basic concept, behavior, design and reinforcement detailing of various reinforced concrete structural elements leading to their optimum design.

ØBrief introduction to development of reinforced concrete structures.

ØLatest development in reinforced concrete materials.

ØBasic assumptions, fundamental theories, concept and design of reinforced concrete sections subjected to flexure, shear, torsion, axial force and their combination. ØThe basic concept, design of rectangular and circular column section subjected to axial load and bi-axial moments shall be discussed and approximation in design shall be highlighted.Other column sections which are very cost effective shall be dealt.

ØOptimum design and reinforcement detailing of reinforced concrete structural elements.

ØProvision of earthquake resistance design and reinforcement detailing of reinforced concrete beams and columns.

The behavior and design of compression member subjected to axial load and bi-axial moments are most complex and conventionally adopted rectangular and circular sections are most inefficient and uneconomical. Other than rectangular and circular compression members subjected to axial load and bi-axial moments shall be discussed which are very cost effective.

Some failure cases shall be discussed to highlight the importance of good detailing. Also provisions of earthquake resistance design and reinforcement detailing of reinforced concrete beams and columns shall be discussed.

ØDr. S. N. Sinha has 40 years of teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levelsØHe has also been actively involved in large consultancy projects with DDA, Power Grid Corporation of India, RITES, NTPC, K J Realtors etc. ØHe has also been conferred twice with the Best Paper Award by ING-IABSE.ØDr. Sinha has published over 100 research papers and a large number of technical reports.ØHis research and consultancy works during the years 1989, 1990 and 1991 have been commended as outstanding by IIT Delhi.ØDr. Sinha has authored two books “Reinforced Concrete Design” for undergraduate and postgraduate students & “Handbook of Reinforced Concrete Design” for practicing engineers published by McGraw Hill Education (India).
