LTD. WALLSEND-ON-TYNE. Engraved rectangular brass with small semi-circular portion to top edge originating from one of the four engines from the SR ‘Golden Arrow’ ferry TS Canterbury. Launched 13/12/1928 and delivered to SR Southampton 15/03/1929 and entering service on the Dover – Calais route 15/05/1929. Converted to a troopship 09/1939, evacuating troops from Boulogne/Calais (1940) and 5 trips to Dunkirk. In 06/1944 it took part in the Normandy invasion and returned to SR service 07/1945. Its final crossing took place 27/09/1964 and was finally scrapped at Willebroek, Belgium 30/07/1965. C/W original wax infill to lettering and mounted on shaped light wood backing board. A Wooden Pullman Car Plaque CAR PERSEUS. Pullman armorial device on circular dark wood plaque from 1951 built parlour car, schedule No. 301 first used on The Festival of Britain Golden Arrow. It was also part of Sir Winston Churchill’s funeral train and used on the final run of the Golden Arrow. Sold out of service to a brewery company and later restored as part of the VSOE fleet.
