Discipling the SickInitial Words
During His ministry, Jesus devotedmore time to healing the sick than
to preaching.
Wherever He went, the tidings of Hismercy preceded Him. Where He
passed, the objects of Hiscompassion were rejoicing in healthand making trial of their new-found
powers. The Ministry of Healing 19, 20.

In antiquity, sickness was consideredthe result of sinful actions.
Christs disciples understood
blindness as punishment forsomeones sinfulness.
This suggests that sickness requirednot diagnosis or medication butatonement.

2. Christs Total HealingHealing the Body
Jesus healed more than bodies. Hiswholistic approach recognized that
physical health was inseparable from
spiritual health.Through physical healing He affected
spiritual transformation. That was thewhole purpose. After all, why healpeople who in the long run will die
anyway and face eternal destruction?

2. Christs Total HealingHealing the Mind and Body
The relationship between mind andbody is well-established by medical

factors into heart disease.Teaching people about mental-healthprinciples should highlight the

2. Christs Total HealingThe Resurrection and the Life
Jesus offers eternal life in a newworld. Jairus daughter, the widows
son, and Lazarus proved that this too-
good-to-be-true offer is authentic.Disease and accidents might initially
prevail, but eternal life wouldultimately conquer. Healing wouldnot happen every time requested, but
everlasting life was guaranteed.

2. Christs Total HealingThe Resurrection and the Life
Many times the healing we wantjust simply does not come in the waywe want it. Others die from disease,
despite anointing and prayer. We have no answers as to why.
What we do have is something somuch better than even a miraculoushealing, and that is the promise of
the resurrection to eternal life.
