5. Gentry means high or well born, they were often knights, squires, gentleman, or gentlewoman. Merchants traded and produced things, they could be as wealthy as higher classes, but are not the same social class(‘Elizabethan Era Social Class’).

6. Yoemanry could be a person that owns farm or land, and has the same rights as citizens. Laborers are the working class, they did not have enough money to support families. (‘Elizabethan Era Social Class’).

Introduction to Shakespeare: The Globe Theatre1. One of the special effects were cannons to make battlefield sounds however they

fired gunpowder only which later resulted in the fire of 1613 which burned the theatre down in less than 2 hours (“Globe Theatre Special Effects”).

2. In the Elizabethan era, “Without artificial lights, plays took place outdoors during the day” (Doyle and Lischner 16).

1. Queen Elizabeth 1 was the Queen of England for almost 45 years (“The Legacy of Elizabeth 1”).

2. Queen Elizabeth 1 was born September 7, 1533 in Greenwich, United Kingdom and died March 24, 1603 in Richmond,Surrey, United Kingdom (Queen Elizabeth 1 Biography).

3. In the passage, they explain that Queen Elizabeth 1 was nicknamed Virgin Queen because she “seemed to have no interest in sharing power with a spouse...she cultivated her image as a queen married to her job and her people” (Queen Elizabeth 1 Biography).

1.The price to get into a shakespeare play depended on your social class. The lower class would pay one penny, the middle class would pay two pennies while the rich class would pay three pennies (“Shakespeare's audience and audience today”).

2.Because of the price difference the quality of the seating was different. The lower class would stand or sit in front on the ground at eye level, the middle class would sit in seats on the side of the auditorium while the rich would sit higher up on the upper level to get a better view (“Shakespeare's audience and audience today”).

3.People were not as well behaved as people might be today.Since the play was so long the people would get up and leave to go looking for food or drink, Some even went to go talk with friends (“a brief history of the audience”).

4.Many people enjoyed going to the shakespeare plays “because they want to escape from their day-to-day life” one author writes (Sukhnani).

5.The people in the audience would sit there for the whole day, so the theater would have to provide food. One author writes “ 24oz. wheat bread, 2 pounds of beef or mutton, ½ ib. butter, 1 lb. of cheese” is what the theater provided. (Sukhnani)

Actors1.Women were not allowed on stage(Doyle & Lischner 93).

2.Boys usually played the women’s roles before they could graduate to men’s roles (Doyle & Lischner 93).
