1st Grade Word Art
Words in Art!• This lesson is all about positivity! During times like this it’s important to stay
positive and be grateful for what you have.• We will be picking words and turning them into art. Below is a list of positive
words you may choose from• Love• Faith• Hope• Strength• Kind• Happy• Friend• If you can think of another positive word that you would rather use that’s fine!
Where to start
• Make a list of all the positive words, you can use my list and add to it.• Now pick one!• Once you have chosen a word get out a piece of paper, drawing paper
or watercolor paper is perfect but if you don’t have this don’t worry! Use what you have available, computer paper is fine.• Next draw your word in big bubble letters on your paper. Try your
best it doesn’t need to be perfect.• Now full up your background with positive images! Add patterns or
designs.
Example• Here is an example. The word is hope, notice how much space the
word takes up. You want it to be BIG!!!• I added flowers, butterflies, a rainbow, and shapes and squiggles in
the background of my word.
Colored• You want your Word art to be colorful! Use as many colors as you can!
Continued
• Just a reminder we want bubble letters so we can fill them up with colors and patterns! Here is a image to help you.
Materials
• For this assignment I used chalk pastels (colored chalk), colored pencils, and markers.• You can use this as well or water colors, if you do not have access to
water colors or chalk pastels just use what you do have. Crayons and markers are fine.
Requirements/Expectations
• You have to choose a positive word and draw it in bubble letters• The background cannot be blank or just filled in with colors, add
shapes, animals, nature, food, whatever you like!• Add color to your picture• Please email me a picture of your complete project by the end of the
day on Friday.• I can’t wait to see your art!
