HEAD OF MEMBER SUPPORT SERVICES Job Description and Person Specification
Reports to Director of Services
Location Bristol or London. Remote Working considered (with frequent national travel required)
Salary £44,103 (based on WA pay scale points 51-55 + ILW of £3,332 where relevant)
Length of contract 37 hours per week, permanent contract
MAIN PURPOSE OF POST This role leads on the strategic management and development of the range of services provided to the Women’s Aid membership of local domestic abuse services. Including, but not limited to:
Ensuring that Women’s Aid holds the interests of individual members and of the federation as a whole central to our work
Developing and implementing an ambitious Membership Strategy Developing a cohesive, supportive and high quality federation of member
services Working collaboratively across the organisation to achieve business
development, communications and organisation-wide objectives
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Management and Leadership Scope, develop the strategy for, and manage the delivery of Women’s Aid’s
membership support services, in consultation with Executive Management and in liaison with managers and key staff at Women’s Aid
Setting and achieving business plans for the membership team, ensuring clear performance management objectives are set and achieved
Foster a team culture based on efficient and effective internal communication, information flows and co-operation between staff
Ensure the effective recruitment, management, supervision, appraisal and development of all staff in the team to ensure high quality services and to monitor team performance
Develop and hold high level external stakeholder relationships and partnerships key to the growth and sustainability of the member support services
Maintain the profile of Women’s Aid proactively and contribute to Women’s Aid fundraising, publicity and PR priorities and events as required, including acting as a media spokesperson when required
Deputise for the Director of Services as required.

with the model and involvement in delivery Develop relationships with commissioners, engaging, communicating and
supporting them in a variety of ways in constructive dialogue to assist with effective commissioning.
Departmental Budgets Oversee the proper management of the membership support services budgets,
including setting and monitoring budgets, delegating to and supporting managers with budget management where appropriate
In liaison with the finance team, develop budgets for fundraising proposals and ensure effective financial reporting to funders.
General Responsibilities
Work cross-organisationally to achieve aims and objectives which impact on members such as on relevant campaigning and public affairs priorities, with research and evaluation to identify and contribute to key projects, and with fundraising to support the development of organisational bids for funding.
Maintain records of completed work, and to produce high quality reports on work programmes and activities as required by the EMT and the Board of Trustees
Contribute to team meetings and organisational priorities, to prepare and participate in supervision and appraisal meetings

Take direction on projects and priorities from the Director of Services Oversee the work of other volunteers or temporary support staff as required Provide back up and support for the management of other staff when their
manager is absent (by agreement and if required) Provide back up and cover for media calls according to the media policy when
required Provide support and help to survivors as required within the remit of the post Carry out word-processing, filing, and administrative tasks necessary to
comply with the job description Assist in the organisation of conferences or events organised by Women’s Aid

EXPERIENCE
Essential1. Substantial senior management experience in a relevant setting2. Experience of managing staff and/or teams to successfully deliver against

SUMMARY OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Terms of appointment: Confirmation of appointment will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period. This will normally be of six months (less for short term contracts). During this time an employee will be expected to establish their suitability for the post. During the probationary period employment may be terminated in writing, giving one week's notice by either party (this may be waived by mutual agreement). Only any statutory dismissal procedure will apply during the probationary period. There is no probationary period for contracts of under 3 months.
Salary: £44,103 (On an incremental scale guided by the WA scale points 51-55) + benefits. Salary is paid in arrears through bank credit by the 25th of each month. Part time staff receive pro-rata payment based on hours worked.
Working hours: The standard working hours for this post are 37 hours per week, based in Bristol; benefits include a generous bank holidays and annual leave package and contributory pension scheme.
Support and supervision: Women’s Aid has a commitment to providing regular supervision and support to staff with annual appraisals forming a key part of staff development. We have a training policy in place and encourage staff to take an active role in their career development plan. Pension: Women’s Aid is enrolled with the People’s Pension scheme. Women’s Aid normally contributes 7% of salary and the employee contributes 3% towards the group pension scheme. Eligible staff will be automatically enrolled on the scheme when they have successfully completed the 3 month interim probationary review. .
Annual Leave: Women’s Aid offers an annual leave entitlement of 25 days per year rising by one day per year until 30 days annual leave per year is reached. In addition, we offer 8 days public holidays plus 2 additional days in March and August. All leave entitlement is calculated pro-rata for part time employees.
Other leave: Employees have contractual rights to time off for reasons of sickness, maternity and other circumstances.
Period of notice: 1 month after your probationary period has been completed.
Union: You have a right to membership of a trade union. Women’s Aid recognises Unison.
Asylum and Immigration Act 1996: To confirm your right to work in the UK, Women’s Aid will need to see the original of at least one document from a specified list (available on the gov.uk website). Most commonly this is a British Passport.
