Gustav Holst•Gustav Holst was born in England in 1874•He attended the Royal College of Music, where he studied composition.•He worked as music teacher at some schools and colleges. •Holst composed almost 200 works, including operas, ballets and songs.•The Planets Suite is his most famous work. •Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the Solar System and its corresponding astrological character.•This composition was first performed in the autumn of 1918. •The Planets brought Holst fame and fortune.•Holst himself hated its popularity. He did not want to be associated with that one work alone.•He died in London, in 1934.
• It’s the 4th planet from the Sun. of the Solar System.
• Mars is a planet of rocky nature, and it is the most like Earth.
• It has got sandstorms formed at the beginning of the Martian spring, which are usually located at the North Pole of Mars.

The other gas giants are Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Jupiter is mostly composed of hydrogen and helium.

The children of Uranus and Gaia are Titans, Cyclopes and Hecatonchires. Uranus has got also a daughter Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Uranus gave his name to the most famous radioactive chemical element uranium.
Neptune (god of the sea)
Neptune, a Roman name
• In Greece, best known as Poseidon
• In Greek inluencies, Poseidon was the brother of Jupiter and Pluto
• Unlike the Greek Oceanus, titan of the world ocean, Neptune was associate as well with fresh water.
• Bad tempered.
Neptune (The Mystic)• Neptune is the eighth
planet from the Sun and the fourth largest (by diameter).
• In Roman mythology Neptune was the god of the Sea.
• In astrology, Neptune is considered a planet of dreams and spirituality.
Of all the movements this is the most “other worldly”.
The sliding pianissimo, and the wordless women’s choir make this a hypnotic, transporting ending to the suite.
