First class Mails
First class mails get airlift where ever possible without the customer paying any air surcharge, whereas the second-class mail gets air lift only when the sender pays air surcharge for it

1.Letter
Definition-1.Letters/covers are used mostly for communication, sending applications, documents etc. 2.Embossed covers are sold at the Post Office.3.Privately manufactured covers are also accepted if postage stamps of requisite value are pasted.

Rate of Postage - Rs 5/- for every 20 grams or part thereof.

2.Letter card (ILC)
•Letter cards are more popularly known as Inland Letters. •Sold as postal stationery at POs•Used for sending communication written on ILC itself. No enclosures allowed •Privately manufactured ILC also accepted, if it is of the same type and size as of the departmentally manufactured ones.

1. Post Card is the most economical means of communication
2. Used for sending communication written on PC itself

4.Book Packet
•Packet that contains Books, diaries, complementary cards, Greeting cards, Newspapers, Publication, Old letters, Printed invitations, printed notices, Pupils exercises, horoscopes, drawings etc.•Economic as compared to letter•Cover not to be closed. •No written communication

•Word “Book Post” may be written on the top of envelope. It is optional.•Book packet may contain one stamped and addressed envelope, postcard or wrapper bearing the name and address of the sender of the packet, or some other person named thereon

5. SAMPLE/PATTERN PACKETS
Packet containing only the samples of goods like food grains, cotton, cloth, medicine, seeds etc. as specimen or sample but not saleable quantum.
If it is closed, the contents should be declared on the cover.

1. Contents should be bonafide trade patterns or sample of merchandise without any saleable value or objects of natural history without commercial purpose
2. No written matter should be enclosed in it except the name & address of the sender, trade mark no., price, weight, size or quantity to be disclosed

6.BOOK PACKET (Printed Book)Containing printed books without advertisements . Example: Text book Shall consist wholly or substantially of reading matter, painting, photography, diagramsshall consist of printed matter, but shall not contain any advertisementsShall not be a one which is published in regular intervals. Packet may be super scribed as ‘Book packet ’ (optional)Should not be closed against inspection of contentsBook may contain in writing the name of the person to whom it is sent ,the date, the name and address of the sender or owner and not more than five words of a complementary nature

1.For transmission of goods, Parcel system is very useful. 2.To be presented at counter for posting3.The weight and size limits are also more as compared to that of letter. 4.In addition to the goods, one communication can also be sent inside a Parcel. 5.If the parcel weighs more than 4 KGs, it must be sent as registered. 6.Home delivery charges for Parcels weighing above 5 KGs is Rs 5/- and is to be prepaid at the booking point
