We have listed reasons as to why people should care for the environment – but what

about Christians?

Christians would agree with the reasons we have already

listed but unlike non-religious people they believe there are further reasons to care for the

environment and help with environmental issues.

Some Christians may join organisations that work to

help the environment. (SEE HOMEWORK TASK FOR

FURTHER INFORMATION)

Page 17: 1.Folder 2.New book 3.Work booklet 4.Homework booklet 5.Revision workbook 6.Revision guide 7.OLD books – take them home!

STEWARDSHIP:Humans are looking after the earth for God –

they are temporary keepers and so must ensure they return it in the condition God would want.

AUTHORITY/DOMINION:Humans are in charge of the natural world.

Some see this as meaning they can therefore do as they want with the world

as it belongs to them.

RESPONSIBILITY:God has given human beings the gift of

the world and they have a duty to ensure it is passed on to future generations.

CREATION:God created the world and everything in it

– humans must therefore show respect and protect God’s creation.

Many people have risked the lives fighting for causes such as

GREENPEACE!Christians believe this is

WRONG. They believe that although the environment is

important human beings are the most important part of God’s

creation. Although conservation and protection of the environment is vital it should not come at the

expense of people.
