Mayor Bennard J. Cann Benn, was born and raised in Tobaccoville, NC, and graduated from Fayetteville State University. Since that time, Benn has accrued over 20 years of experience in business and business management services. He has been in the DMV since 1998 and a resident of Morningside Maryland since 2007. Mayor Cann serves as Treasurer on the Board of Director for Global Language Network (GLN). This is a position and title he has held since 2008. In his role as Board of Director he oversees the budget and works closely with the President and 4 other Board of Director s in shaping curriculum, partnerships, training, and recruiting for the non-profit organization in Washington DC. Mayor Cann also serves politically as Treasurer for Maryland Mayor’s Association and Vice Chair for Maryland Municipal League annual conference. He is active with the Prince George’s County Municipality Association and Black Mayor’s Association. He also enrolled and completed the Citizens Police Academy for Prince George’s County. Benn has been a public servant in the Town of Morningside since May 2013 where he was elected to Town Council. He was appointed Vice- Mayor within a week of his election, which he served for 2 years. May 2, 2016, Benn was elected as Mayor for the Town of Morningside. In this role he has been able to bring the Town and Community at large together with various events and activities. He has also oversaw the alignment of town funds with State and Federal agencies. As Mayor, Benn oversees the town budget and directly supervises the Administrative Office, Public Works Department and Chief of Police. He also works very closely with Morningside’s Volunteer Fire
