New White Paper on Transport demands tripling high-speed rail infrastructure by 2030
To achieve this, the new TEN-T proposal foresees the construction of new high-speed lines and upgrades to high-speed lines across Europe, including EU12, to be part of the core network which must be completed by 2030
New TEN-T proposal requires high-speed lines to be equipped for speeds equal to or greater than 250 km/h
Impact of TEN-T Guideline proposal on high speed rail transport in Europe

High Speed, definitely a way to reduce Europe’s dependency on oil!
But: High Speed should apply where there is a market for it.
This is particularly the case if High Speed substitutes to air short-medium haul and motorways
High Speed should not develop at the expense of the conventional network.
Conventional rail must be maintained, in complementarity to High Speed, and as a feeder network
“Two-(high)Speed Europe” must be avoided; East/West gap shall be bridged
CER view on the high speed railway:Let’s not allow a “Two (high)Speed
Europe”!
