MARCH EDITORIAL

Another newsletter once again, it seems no time at all since I was

sitting down writing last months editorial and other bits and

pieces. There was I last month thinking that we were struggling to

put a newsletter together and then it turned out to be a Ten page

issue, but it does bring my thoughts to the old war cT "WENEED

INPUT FROM YOU l!!!". As you read each issue it can been seen

that there is only a very small number actually putting in inaterial,I

know it is hard to think what to put in, but it would be nice to give

the regular contributors a "wee" rest from tryrng to rack their

brains for material. I know personally it is very difficult. Ok then

that's me had my wee say, but go on surprise us ......

As I write this the Radio Check night is still to come, but I know it

will be once again another major success so a big thanks goes to

John GMTOLQ for once again doing it and I am sure everyone

will have benefited.

Moving onto what's happening this month, well there is the

Blackpool Weekend so when you read this, on club night, it will be

your last chance to put your name down for going. trf you still

want to go I will need to know immediately. The most important

event this month is the CPR Night. I hope you will all make an

effort to attend BUT REMEMBER it has changed MGHT so

PLEASE READ YOUR EVENTS COLTJMN FOR FULL DE-

TAILS.

That's it then as at this instant in time there is no other news to

pass on, so a quick reminder, as they say on Blind Date, lets have

some input for the Newsletter and if you afe submitting anything

please don't leave it till the last minute as we have deadlines to

meet for producing and printing.

Enjoy the newsletter then.........

I am sure all club members will wish to congratulate Bob

ASK DR ROGERThis is a new venture for us.. If you have a problem why not consult our resideht Quack Dr Roger. Here a few

examples of how he may be able to help

DEAR DR ROGER

WIFE I{AS ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST IN RADIO. WE HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR 10 \'EARS, AND IAM FINDING THAT THIS PUTS AN INTOLERABLE STRAIN ON OURMARRIAGE. I MUST CONFESS THAT

WHEN WE ARE OUT TOGETI{ER I CANNOT STOP MYSELF LOOKING IN TANDY'S WINDOW, OR ATMAGAANES IN MENZIES. YOU KNOW' TT{E TOP SI{ELF ONES; PRACTICAL WIRELESS, }IAM

RADIO AND SO ON. I AM TERRIFIED SHE WILL NOTICE, AND I AM AT MY WITS END. WHAT SHOULD IDO?

IVOR HANDY. HADDINGTON

Doctor Roger Answers. Well Ivor, tlrere is no simple solution. I believe you should accidentaly let her findmagazines, and perhaps read them together. This may get you talking. Ieave the Shack door open on the

but on no account suggest she joins you. She may find tHdt suggestion repuglant. Gradually day by day, with her through the open &or, but obviously not during a DX QSO, until she has overcome her initial distaste. Do

not rush things, and do not mention the dressing up. Especially the Kenwood Shack Jacket.

DEAR DR ROGER"

I HAVE A TERRJBLE CALLOUS ON MY RIG}il INDEX FINGER. IT REFUSES TO HEAL AND I AMBECOMING CONCERNED. W}IAT SHOULD I DO?

A. BURLE& PORT SETON

Dr Roger Answers. From your descriptio4 it sounds like you have Twiddlers Finger. This condition is caused loy

continuous use of your tuning knob, and I suggest you stop immediately before serious damage is done. Rest the finger,

and in the meantime us€ the autoscan facilitl on your radio.

DEAR DR ROGER

I AM AFRAID THAT I HAVE BECOME ADDICTED TO PACKET RADIO. BEFORE I LEAVE FOR WORK INTHE MORNING. I HAVE ruST GOT TO CFMCK TI{E BULLETINS. ALL DAY LONG, ALL I THINK OF IS MY

AL. THE KEYS. THOSE FLASHING LIGI{TS ON TTIE TNC, OOOOOOFI, THE DING WHENSORRY DR ROGER. I SEEM TO HAVE LOST ALL INTEREST IN THE OTI{ER THINGS IN

AND CAN ONLY LOOK FORWARD TO TT{E NEXT AUTO MAIL SESSION.

MARTIN L LONDON

Roger Answers- My goodness man, putl yourself together! Ifuve you not ffied Slow Scan TV? Its absolutelyfabulous, in fact I can't wait to get home, and switch on. I would watch it all day if I could Se€ that warbling noi

ing transmit, ch,oh.............

DEAR DR ROGER,

MY FRIENDS AT WORK TELL ME THAT TI{E VIBRATION FROM A MORSE KEY CAN CAUIMPOTENCY. I AM OBVIOUSLY EXTREMELY CONCERNED, AND WOULD APPRECIATE YOURMENTS.

MR GOODFIST MUSSELBURGH

Dr Roger Answers. I am afraid to say that your friends are correct. The vibtation produced by a morse key whenspeeds over 12 words a minute, can, during a long QSO cause permanent damage to your reproductive organs.

Electronic keyers and paddles can sometimes help, but the damage may already be done. Similar damage may alsoined should XYL ever find out the true cost of all that equipment.

Roger regrets thot no advice can be given over the Air.

If you have any problems of this nature why not let Dr Roger help you as he has helped those above?
