Before you start, please bear in mind that...
The Calendar has been designed to make its use as easy as possible. Therefore, the information it provides should beself-explanatory in most cases.
The intention is to give an overview of what is going on in the tournament world and when, rather than replacing thepromotion pamphlets. In consequence, players interested in a particular event should contact the organizers directly inorder to confirm the information contained in the Calendar and get all the details.
The information contained in the Calendar was provided by the NCBOs and individual organizers who hold fullresponsibility for their accuracy. The EBL has not been involved in the checking of any facts herein, and therefore can-not be held responsible for any deviations or alterations, especially concerning financial information.
Players wishing to participate in tournaments held in other countries should be aware that they may face regulationsregarding permissible systems and conventions which are different to those in domestic or official European events.
It should be noted that, in most cases, the dates refer to the Opening Ceremony (or start of play) and the closing ofthe event respectively; departure is usually on the following day.The accommodation cost may refer to lodging facili-ties in the area; not necessarily or exclusively to the venue hotel. Prize money represents the total amount distributedin cash to the various winners; it covers all tournaments and all placings.

Although official Junior TeamChampionships have existed in
Europe since the late sixties, thedevelopment of bridge among
young people elsewhere was notup to a satisfactory level to allowthe institution of a World Junior
Championship. The situationappeared to have changed in mid-
eighties, and the World BridgeFederation wasted no time at all.
Before leaving office, PresidentJaime Ortiz-Patiño led the way
and, together with AndréBoekhorst, the pioneer of JuniorBridge in Europe, organized the
first competition in August 1987,in Amsterdam. The World JuniorTeam Championship, held every
odd-numbered year, is a zonalcompetition played among the
champion/representative teamsof the WBF zones.
