Cathy moved on to Koorablyn international school to be coached professionally by Romanian Mike Danila who became her first real coach. Her provide a strict training program for the young athlete. Cathy was awarded with a

scholarship to an exclusive girls school in Toowoomba. In a competition in 1988 Cathy ran the 100m in a time of 11.67seconds. Mike began to think about entering Freeman in the Commonwealth Games trails in Sydney.

1990

Cathy was chosen as a member to be in the women’s 4X100m relay team, for the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland in New Zealand. The team won a gold medal. Making her to be the first ever Aboriginal at the Commonwealth Games and to get a gold medal. As well as one of the youngest competitor at the age of 16yrs old.

Cathy travelled to her very first Olympic Games. Reaching the second round of her new speciality event the 400m.

1993

Cathy competed in the world championships in athletic. Freeman competed in the 200m and reaching the semi finals.

Freeman competing in the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Canada. Cathy won in both 200m and 400m race. Freeman also competed in the women’s 4x100m team. The team placed second wining them a silver medal , but the team that placed first was later disqualified.

1995

Freeman went in the 1995 world championships in athletics in Sweden. Freeman finished fourth in the 400m. Cathy reaching the semi finals in the 200m.

By this stage Freeman was the biggest challenger to France’s Marie-Jose Perec at the 1996 Olympic Games. Cathy took home a silver medal behind Perec.

Cathy won the 400m at the world championship in Athens with a time of 49.77seconds. Her only lose was in Oslo where she injured her foot.

1997

Freeman took a break over the season due to injury.

Freeman returned to the track. She did not lose one single 400m race. Including at the world championships.

Her winning streak continued into the season of 2000. Despite rival Perec’s returned to the track. Freeman won the Gold medal in the 400m women’s finals in Sydney Olympics, at Freeman’s home Country.
