Glossary of Terms Term Definition

ACCESS CODE

Number or signal identifying the individual operating the access or intrusion detection system. In Legacy panels is configured by Partition, then each User’s PIN follows. In FlexIP, iBase, and FlexiBase systems this is the User’s complete code for Keypad use.

ACCESS LEVELS

An access level defines a user's security access. The access level defines the user's ability to arm or disarm the control panel, and the dates and times the system will grant the user access. You can create

up to 255 different access levels for each facility.

ACCESS MODULE Access Modules are add-on units to a system that provide facility access control. Each Access Module provides up to four facility doors.

ALARM POINT A monitoring device (i.e., door switch) connected to a control panel or module.

ANTI-PASSBACK Requires that a valid entry request by a card be followed by a valid exit request by the same card before the system allows the same card another valid entry.

ARM The act of putting the access or intrusion detection system into full security (ON) alarm monitoring mode.

AUDIO VERIFICATION Live audio sent to the monitoring computer when an alarm point violation occurs. The operator uses

this audio to assist in identifying the cause of the alarm point violation.

CALL LIST A list providing names and phone numbers of individuals to notify when an alarm activation occurs. The Call List defaults to the partition from which the activation occurred.

CARD NUMBER The number embedded on a card that is assigned to a system user.

CONTROLLED EXIT A programmable form of exit that requires a verified card read before granting an exit from the

controlled area.

DATABASE The access system information is stored in, on the monitoring computer's memory.

DEPARTMENTS Up to 128 departments may be programmed for each facility. Departments can then be assigned in a

user record and used when cross-referencing data.

optioned to do so).

EGRESS A term commonly used in security meaning exit.

FACILITY A location that can have up to 100 different control panels, each providing access and/ or intrusion

protection. Each intrusion detection panel and access control panel must be assigned to a facility.

FREE EXIT A programmable form of exit that allows users to freely exit the controlled area without a card read.

The user normally presses an exit switch to unlock the door.

GLOBAL ANTI-PASSBACK

Allows access panel users to enter and exit any Panel doors optioned as Global. See Anti-Passback.

MANTRAP The panel prevents selected pairs of doors from being opened simultaneously. If the internal card

reader encounters an invalid card, an Invalid Access Code alarm is sent to the monitoring computer. This locks the person inside the enclosed area until:

• A Door Unlock command is issued at the monitoring computer to unlock the door.

• An authorized person activates an exit device on the secure side of the internal door to unlock the door.

• A manual override switch is activated to unlock the internal or external door.

• The Man Trap is designed for high security areas. It is advised that a telephone or intercom device be installed within the enclosed area for emergencies and in case of equipment failure.

MASTER CODE A 1 to 4 digit LCD keypad code that allows advanced keypad functions. [Legacy panels only]

OCCUPIED SECURITY Users may arm a partition or system to an occupied level and remain in the building. Typically, only perimeter devices are active in the occupied level.

PARTITION The electronic controls on a panel or module (alarm points, doors, etc.) organized into a group. Partition control can be combined with other partitions, or be independent.

PERIOD A programmable time which determines when a Shift is active. Each period has a single start and end time that is enabled on selected days of the week and holidays.

PIN Personal Identification Number. A secret number used at a keypad that identifies the individual

operating the system. [Legacy panels only]

SHIFT A programmable time-frame that consists of one or more periods.

STATE The condition of a system or partition indicating whether it is armed, disarmed or in an occupied

security mode.

UPLOAD The transfer of data from a peripheral computer to a central computer. For example, the monitoring

computer retrieving activity log information from an access panel.

USER A person allowed inside a facility or an access controlled facility.

USER GROUPS Users can be assigned to one of 16 groups. User Groups are only programmed for Access Modules if a

Guard Tour shift, Temporary User, Anti-passback or at least one relay has been optioned.

• Group 1 users are always exempt from Anti-passback checks.

• Group #14 is reserved for toggle functions, to turn a device on and off.

• Group #15 is reserved for temporary employees.

• Group #16 is for guard tours.
