The 1978 Proctor Academy Football team compiled a record of 3 wins, 3 losses and a tie. Who could have for-seen the ending of our season when we all gathered for football camp in Septem-ber. 15 returning players for 1977's team and 18 new players made up out 33 man squad. While penalties hurt us agaings Kents Hill, the team rallied for three consecutive victories, against Deerfield, Phillips Andover and K.U.A. on Parents Weekend respectively. We traveled to Pomfret and played them to a tie with their tying score coming after time had run out. Boy, was it hot that day! Bonus Weekend and a let down and a loss to Hebron. Then Holderness! We all will never forget the excitement and heartbreak of our 35-34 loss in the last 9 seconds. The team worked hard, we had fun and learned to live with a variety of emotions. Thanks for your effort!

Proctor girls 4th soccer season was very successful. Team work and a fine defense resulted in a 14-0 sea-son and the Lakes Region Champion-ship. Proctor girls scored over 60 pts and the defense only allowed 10 goals by opponents. High scorers were Abbey Littlefield and Sally George. Hard work and desire paid off for the girls.

The Proctor Climbing Program is designed to give the student a basic knowledge of safe climbing tech-niques and aid him in the developement of funda-mental climbing skills. The exciting thing about the program this fall was that the hard work of last year began to pay off for many students. Jim Chesney, John Reed, Westy Bigelow, Jamie Pirtle and Mark Stevens all progressed dramatically. We also had fine performances by two students new to climbing, Tom Polovick and Chris Meyerhoff.

  • I have been involved in athletics for more years than I care to divulge but, before this season, I have never been associated with anundefeated team. I am very proud of this team. Their hustle, determination, hard work, and athletic ability has clearly shown them to be one of the best girls prep school teams in New England. Girls ath-letics at Proctor have improved a great deal in the last few years. The pride of thes girls has helped to establish a winning tra-dition that is now recognized by coaches and players throughout New England. When given athletes of this caliber and endowed with this degree of determination, coaching becomes very easy and enjoyable. Besides one never knows whom he might meet while coaching. Thank you girls -- I am looking forward to next season when we'll do it all over again. Girls' Varsity

It is not our level of prosperity that makes for happiness, but the kinship of heart to heart and the way we look at the world. Both attitudes lie within our power so that a man is happy so long as he choses to be happy and no one can stop him.''

Let us pray that strength and courage abundant be given to all who work for a world of reason and understanding. That the good that lies in every man's heart may day by day be magnified. That men will come to see more clearly not that which divides them, but that which unites them. That each hour may bring us closer to a final victory, not of nation over nation, but of man over his own evils.
