Why you as a sportsman will want to follow in the footsteps of professional

hunter David Ommann€y, a Winchester Man from East Africa, who walked into

a wonderful new world of shooting enjoyment.. . from Alaska to Maine... last fal l .

A year ago last fa l l , David Ommanneyled a safar i through northern Tangan-yika. Nothing unusual about that forDave. That 's his business. He's an EastAfr ican professional hunter - and oneof the best!

That safar i was anything but rout ine, however. Dave took with him the 1964Winchester-Western l ine of r i f les, shot-guns and ammunit ion. More than 60per cent of the l ine was new . . . notjust newly manufactured, but ent i re lynew in design and concept. We knewthey were great f irearms . . . and just

Tanganyika, 1 963 -

as great ammunit ion. The resul ts ofcount less lab and bench tests said so.

But that was in the lab.

How would they perform under a blaz-ing Afr ican sun? In the pre-dawn chi l lhal fway up Oldeani . Bouncing aroundin the back of a Land Rover jo l t ingalong game trai ls that would even slowdown an impala. The '64 l ine wentthrough al l th is and more. The dust, the rust producing mists and dew, theaction rattl ing jolts were a real test formen and equipment.

How did they make out?

Wel l , Dave Ommanney's st i l l around -very much so. And he proved that whenyou're equipped with Winchesters andWinchester and Western ammunit ion.

you're ready for anything that growls, snorts, runs or leaps. Proof is in thef ine col lect ion of t rophy heads . . . l ion, leopard, Cape buffalo, kudu, impala . . .you name i t . . . that were brought back.

Dave summed up the safar i th is way:"Al though I have never hunted yourgr izzly, brown or black bears - nor forthat matter moose, car ibou, antelope, whitetai l deer or Canada geese - i fand when the opportunity presents it-sel f , there's l i t t le quest ion in my mindwhich f i rearms and ammunit ion Ishould want wi th me."

We decided then and there, as we werepacking up to leave Africa, to give Davean opportuni ty to walk into a wonderfulnew world of hunt ing . . . in North Amer-ica. We thought i t would be qui te aswitch to get a well-known East Af ricanprofessional hunter out of h is safar ishorts . . . into some red f lannels to gainthe enjoyment of shoot ing on new hunt-ing grounds from Alaska to Maine -and al l stops in between.

Alaska, 1964 -

We real ized i t was no longer a quest ionof whether the new Winchester gunsand Winchester and Western ammuni-t ion would come through. They havebeen proving themselves to huntersand sportsmen for over a year. But, wethought i t would be good to have theopinion of a s ingle hunter t ry ing the l ineunder every condi t ion the American

hunter is l ikely to meet . . . the opinionof a man who, when he talks guns andammo, makes hunters and shooterseverywhere sit up and take notice.

Who else but David OmmanneY - Win-chester 's Man in Afr ica.

So Dave came over last fall and hunted. And he met a lot of other WinchesterMen just l ike himsel f - men who ownand depend on Winchesters and Win-chester and Western ammunit ion.

Dave learned the Winchester Man isnot just one indiv idual out of h istory l ikeBuffalo Bi l l . . . Teddy Roosevel t . . . menof the Northwest Mounted Police . . . AdTopperwein or Herb Parsons. But thereare hundreds of thousands of otherWinchester Men . . . l ike men who manthe product ion l ines in our New Haven,Connect icut p lant turning out wor ld-famous Winchesters . . . and the opera-tors of loading machines who in ourEast Al ton, l l l inois plant produce theshot shel ls and r im f i re and center f i recartr idges preferred by hunters andshooters.

The Winchester Man is also every dis-t r ibutor and dealer . . . who stakes hisreputat ion and money on the qual i tyof the oroducts he sel ls.

But above all, Dave met the most im-portant Winchester Man . . . the shooter. . . the man who by demanding the bestand sett l ing for nothing less has shownhis conl idence in Winchester guns andWinchester and Western ammunit ion.

Dave Ommanney's back in Africa now. . . a more conf i rmed Winchester Manthan ever. And as one Winchester Manto another, we think you' l l agree thatthe 1965 line of Winchester-Westernproducts provides the greatest oppor-tuni ty for you to walk into a wonderfulnew world of hunt ing enjoyment - wi ththe best f i rearms and ammunit ion.

For its 70th birthday last year we decided to make ita mite fancier. This is no "parlor" gun . . . just a great deer-slayer made even more handsome and more rugged, too.

ln 1894, when the Model 94 was introduced, Winchester pre-dicted that this would become the world's most popularsporting rif le ". . . appealing to the eye and understanding ofthe rif leman . . ." THE CHOICE OF HUNTERS WHO DEMAND TOP ACCURACY, HIGH SPEED IGNITION ANDTROPHY.STOPPING POWER AT ALL RANGES,

ln the final analysis, the world's finest marksman firing theworld's finest rifle is dependent upon a streamlined pro-jectile weighing something less than an ounce and travelingfar above supersonic speed. Only if the bullet flies true andhas sufficient energy to do its iob will marksmanship andrifle accuracy pay otf. For years Winchester-Western has ledthe way in developing and improving cartridges and bullets

that combine high speed ignition, top accuracy, and posi-tive functioning. Whether it 's a wind-bucking, flat-out trajec-tory bullet with enough residual energy to drop 'em way outthere or a magnum that must be not just a good kill ing car-tridge but a stopping load for the close-range dangerousones-Winchester and Western Power-Point and Silvertiprepresent the ultimate in center fire ammunition.

POWER-POINT

Winchester-Western's improved soft pointbullet that gives you the tremendous shockeffect of a softnose bullet with as little asone-third the lead loss, no mushroom col-lapse, and better than double diameter con-trolled expansion.

The secret of the Power-Point bullet lies in improvementsboth in the design and in the metallurgical structure of thejacket, mouth and core. Notice those notches in the bulletjacket?-they control expansion from the moment of impactthrough maximum expansion deep within the vital organsto help make this the greatest softnose bullet in the field.

Winchester-Western's powerhouse for thebig ones - a classic in bullet design andperfection. The thin soft iacket which coversthe lead core protects the bullet from batter-ing in the magazine or dur ing loading . . . i talso allows the bullet to penetrate hair, hideand outer layers of animal tissue with aminimum loss of velocity and energy. Afterits initial penetration, the jacket tip burstsand the bullet mushrooms fast- expendingits energy deep in the vital areas. Thin at the

than any competitive shot shell on the market _paper or plastic, with a laboratory measured tensilestrengih up to 35,000 p.s.i.!

. The compression-formed plastic/Mark 5 is com-pletely resi, stant to tube splitting - has the strengthto stand up under all firing conditions even wlthoutlls high brass head.

. The compression-formed plastic/Mark 5 eliminatespossibilities of gas leaks or,,shoot-offs."

Here is the "heavyweight" of the Winchester-Westernline. lt 's built with strength to spare for potent, longrange loads. Notice the one-piece construction. Case

WESTERN XPERT AND WINCHESTER RANGERPOLV.FORMED PLASTIC/MARK 5o Ranger and Xpert plastic/Mark Ss are available in

standard field loads with both a plastic outer hull andshot-protecting inner collar.

o Ranger and Xpert plastic/Mark 5s offer a sealed gaschamber that keeps the powder gases where theybelong - behind the shot column.

. WINCHESTER RANGER AND WESTERN XPERTPLASTIC/MARK 5s MATCH THE PREM|UM LOADSOF OTHER MANUFACTURERS AT REGULARPRICES!

For upland game and target loads, shooters by themillions are calling for the performance of Winchesterand Western poly-formed plastic/Mark S. lt's a ruggedlow-brass sheil that's buitt to do the job perfecilywhere a heavy load is not needed _ at the traps or atshorter field ranges. Here's a shell with tremendousmaterial strength . . . more than enough for the job it,s

sidewall and base wad are all one unit for strength. There are only two openings in the entire hull _ onefor the shot to go out, the other for the Winchester_Western non-corrosive primers to go in. The possibili_ties of either gas leak or ,,shoot-off" are eliminated.

Say goodbye to blown crimps and split shells. Thecompression-formed plastic/Mark 5 has more strengththan you'll ever need. And, in the bargain, its slick,scuff-proof surface is self -lubricating . . . this meansfaster feeding, faster chambering, faster ejection inany action. Won't swell when wet. . . won't lose powerin heat or cold.. .won't rust at the base, ei ther_thanks to its solid brass h6ad. And for those who liketo "roll their own," the compression_formed plastic/Mark 5 will stand up under continued reuse, re_loadafter re-load. You couldn't ask for more strength In ashot shellt

designed to do. . . and you get Mark 5 pertormancein the bargaln.

This great shot shell has a hard, slick plastic tube thatwon't scuff or swell. lt feeds faster, chambers faster, assures jam-free extraction shot after shot. Under allweather conditions, its power is locked under heavyplastic. This means consistent shooting performancewithout a worry in the world about power loss due todampness or age.

And in addition to the tough outer weather_proof hullof Ranger and Xpert plastic shells, keep in mind thesetop performers retain all the features that have madeWinchester and Western shot shells the first choiceamong generations of shooters:. Molded fiber wads . Uniform polished shot . OriginalSuper-Seal Crimp . Non-corrosive primer . progres_sive burning powder . Exclusive sealed gas chamber. Tailor-made brass . PLUS the fabulous Mark 5 shot_protecting collar!

No i fs, ands, or buts about i t . . . th is is the ul t imate intarget shot shell design. Materials. . . construction . . . de_sign.. . have been combined with one idea in mind_tobring you the most perfect target load that Winchester_Western's many years of experience and modern technolog_ical know-how can produce. lf your trap or skeet shootingrating is AA, Winchester or Western DOUBLE A loads willhelp you maintain it. lf you're working toward your AA rating, this is the target load that will help you get there.

Rather broad statements? Not when you see what hasgone into the new DOUBLE A load:

r EXGLUSIVE compression-formed unitized polyethylenebody-the strongest shot shel l ever made ( tensi lestrength up to 35,000 p.s.i.) _ one piece constructionwith no weak points.

o EXGLUSIVE solid head unitized construction eliminatesthe need for a separate base wad . . . nothing to fail orshoot out.

o EXCLUSTVE new one-piece polyethylene shot protectingDOUBLE A Wad incorporates the world famous benefitsof the Mark S col lar.

r POSIT|VE GAS SEAL. The cup shaped base of the one_

piece DOUBLE A Wad maintains a tight gas seal which isessential for superior patterning.

o EXTRA HARD SHOT stays round for most efficient pelletdistribution.

o UNSURpASSED target busting patterns at all ranges . . .greater energy at the target, too!

o FAST, POSIT|VE FEEDTNG AND EXTRACTTON Naturallubr icat ing qual i t ies of the plast ic shel l minimize fr ict ionfor faster, easier feeding, chambering and ejection.

r NO "GONFETT|,'. . . no fil ler wads to disintegrate . . . notube wash, either.

o NO BARREL LEADING. . . it can't . . . the shot nevertouches the barrel. lt stays within the cushioned walls ofthe one-piece polyethylene shot protecting wad.

o NO BLOWN PATTERNS. The unique construction of thenew DOUBLE A Wad causes it to drop away from theshot column as it leaves the muzzle _ there,s no pos_sibility of interference.

o MINIMUM RECO|L. The reduced weight of the DOUBLEA Wad means a reduction in recoil; cushioning effectcontributes to recoil reduction, too!

o UNEXCELLED RELOADTNG CHARACTERTSTTCS. Askilled reloader with proper equipment can expect up to500/o more reloads from the DOUBLE A tube than withany other plastic tube on the market. . . up to 3000/omore than with any paper tube.

o The top of the primer is flush with the base of the tube- that means superior ignition because powder is closeto primer . . . no ,,hide-away" places for the powder.

o You get better crimps when reloading no crimpstarter tool required.

o You get superior gas sealing. Solid head unitized con_struction combined with DOUBLE A Wad form a tighily-sealed gas chamber . . . less powder when reloading.
