JULY, 1954

Want to t THE National Council realizes tha t many

Alpha Sigma T aus are giving a great deal of time and thought to their sorority locally. We know this by the fine chapters that have been developed, by the worthwhile project that have b een undertaken, and by the effi ciency with which rela tionsh ips between the national organization and the chapters have been handled. What is needed now are more alumnae to broaden their horizons to include the national cene. U nless we can ge t more volunteers on a national level it will be imposs~b le to continue to pa rtic:pate in all the activities of N PC, and to be unable to send delegates to their mee tings would be a disadvantage to us. H a sorority has a high rating nationally it is much easier to obtain desirable girls during the rush eason . So it ·:s of importance locally how the sorority stands na tionally.

We have some very fine al umnae representative who keep in touch with all the alumnae, write the newsletters, and advise the co ll ege chapters a to national procedure. If you h aven ' t received a new letter th is year, the chances are that a n alumnae. repre entati ve is needed from your chapter.

Every State n eeds a State C hairman to keep abreast of trends on campu es, to be awa re of concentration of A:lpha Sigma Taus

so tha t new alumnae and colleg1at chapter can be e taJbl·ished . For anyone who njoy meeting people, making new fri nd , and traveling this is a rewarding job. Of cour e the sorority pay the traveling exp ns .

Every chapter needs a SUJb cription Chairman to work clo ely with the National Chairman, Mrs. Preston Sewell. T here are great possib ilities for making money through the agency which have not as yet been explored. How many of u are aware that all sp c·al offe rs which we receive for reduced rat will be honored by our agency? Simply end the subscrip tion money with the ad erti ement to M rs . Sewell.

Surely we want Alpha Sigma Tau to rrrow. To accom plish thi more of us will have to volun teer to work on a national level. If you have time to contribute but cannot travel ; or if you can travel and would like to be an Alumnae R epre entative or a tate Chairman, fi ll ou t the coupon on the n xt page and mail it to the Cen tra l Office. If you ha e time bu t do not ee how our talents can b put to u e in an of thee ategorie or if you r chapter ha a full quota of active worker fi ll ou t the coupon . Another chap ter or the Central Office can make u e of your time. So let u hea r from ou!

will have to be employed. This has never been necessary in Alpha Sigma Tau and is the main reason that expenses for the individu<rl member have been kept low. If pa·id employes become necessary, dues necessa rily would be increased.· The most desirable solution of the problem is for us to put to

use the talents and capabilities of Alpha Sigma Tau alumnae so that the national program of the sorority can be carried out successfully. Will you do more than you have bdore?

It's your lead. We' re vulnerable. Let's win the rubber!

in the newspapers and magazines bring memories of years past when we, as college fre hmen, planned and shopped, worried a nd wondered, hoped and anticipated .

Roommates? . . . instructors? ... cour e ? .. sororities ? These were among our con

Perhaps you know of someone who even now is experiencing the excitement and the questions in regard to college generally and sororities in particula r. You play a part in this enthusia m. She will have new clothes, new ideas, new hopes, PL US - your letter of credit," to give her new fri ends as soon as she arrives. Your recommenda tion to the active chapter will be her le tter of credit, the introduction she will need to get to know Alpha Sigma Tau.

R ecommendations are becoming increas-

ingly im porta nt to th act:i v chapt rs. M a ny coll eges a r now adopting a quota system wh reby ea h orority is limi ted to a specific number of members and a certa in number of pledges accord ing to the eligible g irls on cam pus. The chapter has th most difficult task of selecting this limited number. Your letters will make the ta k easi r for them. Even though your re ommendation may not be as complete or as personal as you might wish it to be, the initia l ontact will be made and the chapter will be able to follow through.

For college in which Alpha Sigm a T au doe not ha ve chapters, send your re ommenda tions to Alpha Sigma T au, 564 l a S. K ingshighway, St. Loui 9, Mis ouri . T hese re -ommendations are a lso importa nt a they serve a a nucleu for expan ion.
