    Board Developed Subjects

Board Developed subjects are subjects for whichthe Board of Studies develops a syllabus, settingout the objectives, outcomes, structure andcontent. These are the subjects for which theBoard develops the Higher School Certificateexaminations. In addition, the Board developssubject and assessment requirements, markingcriteria and performance scales for these subjects. The Board Developed subjects contribute to thecalculation of the Australian Tertiary AdmissionRank (ATAR). A full list of subjects available atOTEN in year 2011 is given in the table 2.

    Vocational Courses

Vocational courses are either IndustryCurriculum Framework (ICF) courses or non-Framework courses.

Industry Curriculum Framework courses arebased on national training packages and thequalification is recognised in all states ofAustralia. ICF courses have compulsory workplacement. If a student elects to sit the optionalHSC exam for this course and completes 240hours, the exam mark may contribute to the fullATAR, but not to the limited ATAR.

Information Technology is an ICF course Non-Framework courses will give qualifications

recognised within NSW. There is compulsorywork placement.

The 240 hour course of Accounting (Board

Developed) or 240 hour course of InformationTechnology does contribute to the full ATARwhile all the others do not. No VET Coursecounts towards the limited ATAR

    15. First enrolment applicationFull time students may enrol initially into amaximum of 6 subjects. A part time student mayenrol in 1 to 4 subjects.

You can add subjects throughout the year as youprogress through your assignments. To add asubject, you must first establish a working statusby completing one assignment in each of yourexisting subjects.

A small number of subjects can be deliveredintensively. This means the preliminary year andthe HSC year of a subject can be completed in aone year.
