    The Dust Bowl Years of drought during the 1930s which made

    the effects of the Great Depression even worse. Farmers in six

    states watched their fields dry up and crops die. Giant duststorms covered buried farmhouses up to their windowsills.

    Everything was covered in sand. Many people left the region to

    find work picking crops in California.

    THE NEW DEAL

    The New Deal was a wide variety ofprograms designed by FDR inattempt to end the GreatDepression. (1) Banks were closed

    and reopened under governmentsupervision. (2) Loans were givento farmers and businesses indanger of closing or failing. (3) Asystem of regulating (controlling)stock sales was created. (4) SocialSecurity was started to helpretired, disabled, and joblesspeople (5) Labor Unions wereallowed to form to protect workers.
