Many connoisseurs of clas- sical music were present in the programme. "Every month, we hold a musical baithak in PSK to promote classical music. Our main motive is to pro- vide a platform to new and budding talent through our foundation," said organis- er Arup Ratan. Sonal Chaana, a child artist, first sang classical vocals followed by Kedar Raaga and bhajans. Another budding artist from Kolkata Rithom Sarkar played Raaga Bhagyeshwari in tra- ditional alaap on Hawain Guitar and after that played taal porton. He also played Bilambit in teen taal on tabla, Matya taal of nine beats, ek taal of twelve beats and Drut Jhala in three taal of six- teen beats. It was a half-an-hour pro- gramme. Both the artists were accompanied by Dr Nageshwar Karen on tabla. Seema Deepak trustee of Baba Alludin Khan Music Foundation also graced the event with her presence. The Musical Baithak will be next staged in the month of December. A captivating event at PSK T o create awareness about cancer, the Cancer Winners Association of India organised a mass rally on Saturday in Noida. District magistrate Deepak Aggrawal flagged off the rally at Noida Stadium Sector 21. More than 400 people partici- pated in the rally which crossed sectors 21, 20 and Sector 26. The association organ- ised a cancer screening test at Sector 20 commu- nity centre. Members of the association gave tips on cancer prevention to the people gathered there. Speaking on the occasion Dr Pawan Gupta says, "If identified in the initial stages, cancer is curable. It is necessary to educate people on the symptoms of cancer." The young geniuses from the winning school in Noida would now compete with winners from 74 other schools in the semi- finals. Lotus Valley School emerged the runners-up in the city final. Around 178 students from 32 schools participated from Noida out of which six schools competed in the city final; Amity International School, Lotus Valley School, DPS Noida, Ryan International School, Army Public School and Khaitan Public School. Following the huge success of the Limca Book of Records, 2008, this year the quiz is being organ- ised on a larger scale. Pratik Dubey, HR man- ager UP, Coca-Cola India, presented the awards to the winners of the Noida city finals. He said, "Limca Book of Records, now cel- ebrating its 20th illustri- ous year, truly represents India at her best providing us with the opportunity to learn about the achieve- ments of Indians." Amity wins Limca Book of Records quiz in Noida I n order to deal with the water crisis in India, Rotary Club of Delhi Midtown, in association with UNESCO and WWF, announced an awareness programme on 'Water Crisis' in India on November 12. G S Singhvi, president, Rotary Club, said, “We are making an effort to create awareness in young school children as I firmly believe that today's kids are mature, logical and intel- ligent hence kids have been pitched in.” A rally titled 'Walk For Water' will be taken out from Rajpath/Rafi Marg crossing near India Gate on November 15. CM Sheila Dikshit will flag off the rally and Kalyan Banerjee will be the guest of honour. Other special guests include UNESCO chief for south Asia Parasuramen and GS Pillai, Home Secretary, Government of India. About 5000 school chil- dren will participate in the rally. The rally will be led by a group of differently- abled children. A school rock band will also per- form their own composi- tion dedicated to the cause of conserving water.
