The R and Python programming languages are primary citizens for data science for AI Platform.
These are the most common languages for performing data preparation, transformation, training
and operationalization of machine learning models; the core components for one's digital
transformation leveraging Artificial Intelligence. The agriculture industry is one of the most
important and perhaps impactful industries in the world and Microsoft Azure is already planting
the seeds sensing the needs for a more connected future in the IoT. With the digital feedback
loop, data is empowering the next evolution of IoT where companies are continuing to capitalize
on data, AI (artificial intelligence), and continuous product improvement, deeper customer
relationships, deliver greater products, increase product usage and even, customer interactions
which leads to better service and greater monetization and more efficient and productive
methods that are all data driven.
The online Training on Azure, Python and R Programming was conducted under ambit of
National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP), SKUAST-Kashmir. The training
program was kick started on 17th
September 2020 in collaboration with 360 DigiTMG New
Delhi. The training programme comprises of 3 Components viz. MS Azure, Python and R having
22 sessions of 2 hours each.
The programme started with a brief basic introduction session to make the students well aware
about the topics like: Cloud Computing, Python programming language, R, Various IDEs
(Integrated Development Environments) and other tools for using the language. The eminent
experts were Mr. Maurya Prasad (Certified Cloud Expert, INNODATATICS), Ms. Sowjanya
(Data Scientist, ML&AI Expert) and Mr. Sharat Chandra (Principal Data Scientist). They
demonstrated the whole sessions of the training programme with utter determination and made
the whole process so easy for the participated students in understanding the crux of the training
program. Each session consisted of lectures followed by doubt clearing sessions where the
queries posed by the students were answered. They acquainted our students so well with usage of
LMS Software in order to get handouts and study notes for the each topic via online mode.
1. To understand the basics of MS AZURE, R and Python Programming
2. To understand Landscape of various data generation sources.
3. To identify the technological areas helping in evaluating and predicating the various
aspects of agricultural sector.
4. To learn the Python, and R programming Coding.
Students were able to grab the Cloud Concepts and applications to their field.
Students understood the real-time applications of Cloud and its advantages in
agriculture and in other domains.
Students were able to understand advantage of Cloud Using IOT, ML and AI
Students understood the difference between object oriented vs functional oriented
programming languages.
Learned Python & R for Machine Learning application in Agriculture.
Learned about the capabilities of open source programming languages: Python and R.
Learned to work with MS Azure Cloud Infrastructure.
Learn to code with Hands-on sessions.
Students were able to grab the Basic Concepts on Python & R Programming.
Students understood the applications of Python & R Programming.
Students were able to install Python IDEs, R and other related software.
Students understood the concept of performing basic mathematical operations using
Python & R code.

Demo Certificate of Completion
The Online training Programme emphasized on providing knowledge about Azure, Python and R
Programming for the students of SKUAST- Kashmir under ambit of IDP NAHEP. The students
were successfully acquainted with Microsoft Azure which is a cloud computing service to build,
run, and manage applications across multiple clouds, on-premises, and at the edge, with a
diversity of tools and frameworks. The students for the training were selected on the basis of
their aptitude for AI&ML in agriculture and allied fields. Three renowned experts– Sharat
Chandra, Principal Data Scientist; Mourya Prasad, Certified Cloud Solutions Architect and
Sowjanya V, ML & AI Expert conducted the training. Participants were trained on cloud
computing, Microsoft Azure, R and Python Languages, and use of AI & ML in agriculture
sector. Each session consisted of lectures followed by doubt clearing sessions where the queries
posed by the students were answered that made the program interesting for participants. Hand-
outs and notes for the topics covered each session were also shared with the students by
providing them access the LMS of 360 DigiTMG training portal on their official website for
downloading study material as well as for uploading various assignments.
Director Planning, SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, PI of NAHEP, said such programme
will make SKUAST-K students industry ready and will help them to compete in the job market
and enable them to update themselves and keep pace with the advancements in innovative
technologies of AI and ML in agriculture.
