So far this year, as we have thought about our theme, The King and His Kingdom,

we have seen the Pattern of the Kingdom in Genesis 1-2, how sin meant that the

Kingdom Perished (Genesis 3-11) and how God's eternal plan starts to be

modelled in the Promised Kingdom. As we think about God's promises, or

covenants, we see that the promises are framed in terms of God's people, God's place and God's

blessing. The Bible's story, as we have seen thus far, is well illustrated in the following table:

So we see here that the promise to Abraham is a promise of the kingdom of God. It must have been

hard for Abraham to believe, but he did. He accepted God's Word, and he was accepted by God

because of his belief. This promise, this good news, was partially fulfilled, in the history of Israel in the

promised land of Canaan. We see it fully fulfilled in Jesus. All those who trust Jesus are God's people,

and we are able to look forward to enjoying all the fullness of God's blessing when He returns to this

broken world.

SCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL All students in Yrs 3 - 10 are expected to attend the Athletics Carnival on Friday 14th June at Shoalhaven High School. Seniors, who did not attend the Swimming Carnival at the beginning of the year, are required to attend this carnival.

All students are to catch the bus which departs NCS approximately 8.45am and return in time for the afternoon buses. This is to ensure safety to and from the grounds. Only students under the direct supervision of parents may make their own way to the grounds by 9.00am.

SPORT UNIFORM MUST BE WORN TO AND FROM THE CARNIVAL.

House colours may be added at the grounds. Black Hawks (black & green); Sea Kings (purple & white). Tracksuits and warm jumpers in school colours should be taken to combat the chilly conditions. Also, school hat, sunscreen and blanket to sit on are advisable. Students, parents and helpers are advised to bring adequate food and drinks. THERE IS NO CANTEEN AVAILABLE ON THE DAY.

Mr Harrison is very keen to hear from parents who will be able to assist at the carnival. Please either ring or

email the school office and leave your name! Parking: No vehicles are permitted in Shoalhaven High School grounds. Persons attending the Carnival should proceed across the playing fields to the Athletics track and not through the School grounds. Parking is in HOLLOWAY DRIVE or HILLCREST AVENUE.

Last Friday all our students enjoyed a visit from this Christian singer/songwriter

and presenter.

Whilst Sean’s music and entertainment style was more suited to the younger ones,

he nevertheless challenged us all about our need for Jesus, our need for a Saviour

and our need to be faithful and trust in Him. Here is the link to his website if you

would like to explore more of his message and music: www.seanwsmith.com

SCHOOL NEWS

PRIMARY NETBALL On Wednesday the 5th June a team of 10 girls travelled to Canberra for Netball Regionals.

It all started with the three (3) hour drive with several stops along the way. We arrived at the netball courts and started to practise for our 1st match.

We had to stay as warm as we could, even with all our layers, the temperature was still not agreeing with us.

After our five (5) games we were all exhausted but thankfully Libby had bought everyone on our team Curly Whirly’s, so that gave us more energy to make it to the car.

Before we left, a lady came up and shook everyone’s hands and gave us certificates.

We came 5th out of five (5) teams, we were all a bit sad but that all changed on the way back because we got to stop at Maccas!

We had a great time and are very happy with our achievements!

A big thanks to Mrs Dickinson, who was a coach for the day and for Mr Hefferan for driving us down.

Report written by the girls.

QUESTACON SCIENCE CIRCUS

K - 6 On Thursday of last week

students from K-6 were enthralled by the scientific experiments and discoveries that came to life before us. There were amazing highlights that involved balloons, fire, illusions, bubbles and flight. This was a wonderful learning experience for our children and it is hoped that as many families as possible made the most of their continued presentation at Bomaderry on Saturday.

SECONDAY On the 6th of June, K-10

got to see the Shell Questacon Science Circus which was held in the MPC.

At the start of the show we all had to say an oath; ‘I promise not to try this at home, I promise not to try this at somebody else’s home’. We got to see what happened to a balloon and to a flower when dipped into some liquid Nitrogen. We also got to see what happened with vinegar and bicarb soda in a film canister, a bottle rocket and we got to shoot ping-pong balls at Elise Firman and Matt Dunn, the two scientists running the show.

All the students were given a free pass to the Questacon Exhibition at the Shoalhaven Basketball Stadium the next day.

For more information on shows and Questacon, go to the website www.questacon.edu.au.

ADDAMS FAMILY EXCURSION Last Wednesday Stage 5 Music and Drama, Senior Music and ten primary students travelled to Sydney to see The Addams Family musical. The show was exciting, funny and maintained its quirky, original style. Students commented on how much they liked the show but also the entire day.

We all enjoyed lunch by beautiful Sydney Harbour before travelling to the Capitol Theatre for the show. Although a long day, their behaviour was excellent and all represented our school very well. Thank you to all students who came with us.

TRIP TO MELBOURNE Ever since I found out I’d been accepted to Space Camp, my feet have hardly touched the ground. With newspaper reports, radio interviews and my own excitement, I think it’s finally begun to sink in. On Friday 31st May, my parents and I were flown to Melbourne by the Australian Scholarships Group. We met the other student (Srajan Singh), that I’ll be going to America with, and his parents at the airport. We took a taxi to the Sofitel Hotel on Collins, where I experienced another first when a man in a top hat and waist coat opened my door...

Next thing I knew, we were at the NEiTA 2012 National Teaching Awards function. One of the 13 teachers who’d won these awards was chosen to come to Space Camp with us. We met the ASG CEO, the chairman of NEiTA and ASG and also the Director of Australian International Space School. Srajan and I were given blue space suits to wear and we had photos taken in both them and our school uniform. The award ceremony and lunch followed, ending with awards of the official acceptance letters to the three Australian International Space Camp ambassadors. We spoke to many people afterward before making our way back to the airport and flying home. A most memorable and exciting day.

Once this is done the students will be able to get stuck into some more planting.

If you are available, please notify Mr McLennan at [email protected]
