SUSTAINABILITY

INTELLIGENT BUILDING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMNumerous sensors and meters are dotted aroundthe building, measuring electricity usage, lightingperformance, heating and cooling efficiency andair quality. Smart technologies deliver informationto your desktop, tablet or mobile in real time.Powerful analytical tools to help inform how youuse the building and further reduce consumption.

LED LIGHTING At 5.1 watts/m2 our lighting system is at least50% more efficient than a typical installationfound elsewhere. Clever, computerisedoptimisation of the lighting strategy meansenergy consumption is further reduced andsizeable heat loads are removed from thebuilding, negating the requirement for excessivecooling.

BIKESKings House provides 56 cycle spaces for visitorsand employees. There are also Santander Bikeslocated adjacent to Kings House, which willencourage diverse travel options.

BREEAM EXCELLENT The building will be rated “Excellent” by Europe’sleading rating agency, BREEAM.

SHOWERS AND CHANGING FACILITIESYour staff will love the 6 generously sizedshowers, designed with a sense of flair.

RECYCLED MATERIALS Use of select construction materials such as glass, concrete and steel are used to minimise embodiedcarbon. Structural steel has been sourced locally, and is made with 60% recycled content. Glass ismade from 30% recycled materials, and has beencarefully selected based on its E-value to maximisetransmission efficiency. Furthermore, 95% of theprevious building was recycled after the demolition.

CO2 SAVINGSThe total CO2 savings achieved from all theclever features we’ve installed is more than 43tonnes per year. This is equivalent to a 25.3%reduction in regulated CO2 emissions.

GREEN ROOF TO SUPPORT LOCAL ECOLOGY You will undoubtedly catch a glimpse of green atKings House. With an extensive 700m2 of the roofspace to be green, which equates to an impressive55% of the total roof space. In addition we have afurther 70m2 featured north facing green wall - allhelping to support local ecology and biodiversity.

SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS Kings House will use cutting edge solarphotovoltaic panels on the roof to create additionalenergy – in turn the panels will save nearly 6tonnes of CO2, generating 11800 kWh, theequivalent of making over 393,000 cups of tea.
