Welcome to South Aiken Presbyterian Church! We are glad that
you are here this morning to join us in offering a service of
worship to the Lord. We believe all people are children of God.
We believe that the redeeming grace of God can bring each of us
into a new day. We believe all people are loved with a love that
has no end in Jesus Christ. Today, may our eyes be opened
again to these truths. May the blessings of joy and hope that can
only come from the nearer presence of God fill each of our
hearts. Let us worship God!
PLEASE NOTE: Please silence your phone dur ing the service. If needed, large print hymnals and sound
amplification devices are available in the Narthex. Please see an usher for assistance in obtaining these items.
NURSERY AND CHILDREN
Infants and toddlers are welcome in our nursery during both of our worship services and during our 10:00 a.m.
Sunday school hour. The nursery is located on the north side of the SAPC building complex. To find it,
please exit the front (main) entrance to the sanctuary and turn left. You will see a sign for the nursery at the
door on the side of the next building.
Children are invited either to remain in the sanctuary for the worship services or to go to the nursery at their
parents’ discretion. For those children who remain for the services, worship activity bags are available and
may be picked up near the doors as you enter the sanctuary. Bags are available for both older children (ages 7-
12 - blue handle) and younger children (ages 3-6 - purple handle). During today’s 11:00 a.m. service, children
ages 3 years through 5K are welcome to participate in our Children’s Church program, which follows the
Moment with Children. Chaperones will escort the children from the sanctuary to the fellowship hall for the
program. You may pick your children up in the fellowship hall after the service. If you need assistance of
any kind, please see an usher.
GUEST PASTOR - REV. FRANK L. CUNNINGHAM III
We welcome the Rev. Frank L. Cunningham, III as our guest pastor today. Frank is a graduate of Union
Presbyterian Seminary where he earned a Master’s Degree, Divinity/Ministry. Frank recently retired, but he
graciously agrees to officiate at services here at SAPC when needed. Being a minister is Frank’s second
career. He spent the first part of his professional life in the banking world. Frank is no stranger to South
Aiken Presbyterian and has long enjoyed a personal association with the church.

GATHERING AROUND THE WORD
*Prayer of the Day (Unison)
God of grace and steadfast love, in Jesus Christ you taught us to pray - stubbornly, relentlessly,
faithfully - crying out for justice night and day. Hear our prayers for the world you made. Give us
the patience, strength, and hope to love and care for one another as you have loved and cared for us
- stubbornly, relentlessly, faithfully - until justice reigns and peace prevails at the coming of Christ
our Redeemer. Amen.
*Call to Worship (Responsive)
One: Stand firm in the word of the Lord.
All: Let us call on God, our help.
One: Continue in the truth of the gospel.
All: Let us pray and not lose heart.
*Hymn #35 Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty
*Prayer of Confession (Unison)
Sovereign God, we confess that we have not turned away from sin. You call us to study the
Scriptures, but we are easily distracted. You ask us to be persistent in prayer, but we are quickly
discouraged. Forgive us, God of grace. Write your Word in our hearts, so that we may truly know
you and joyfully serve you; through Jesus Christ our Lord ...(In silence, confess your personal sins),
Amen.
(As you hear the water poured, remember you are cleansed by God’s grace.)
*Assurance and Forgiveness
*Passing of the Peace (Responsive) (11:00)
One: Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ
be with you all.
All: And also with you.
One: Let us give signs of welcome, reconciliation, and peace with one another.

*Hymn #711 Lord of All Good
RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD
*Affirmation of Faith: Excerpt from “The Br ief Statement of Faith” (Unison)
In life and in death we belong to God. We trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom
alone we worship and serve.
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching
good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the
children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners,
and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition,
Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world.
God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil,
delivering us from death to life eternal.
We trust in God the Holy Spirit everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by
grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us
together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church. In a broken and fearful world the
Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and
Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and
to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to
the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Prayer of Intercession
Offering of Tithes and Gifts
Offertory
*Doxology: The Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen, amen.

*Prayer of Thanksgiving with The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory forever. Amen.
SENDING INTO THE WORLD
*Hymn #834 Precious Lord, Take My Hand
*Charge & Benediction
*Congregational Response Here I Am, Lord
Hymn #69
Here I am, Lord. Is It I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night
I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart. .

Chapter Chat
Monday, October 28, 2019
Church library at 7:00 p.m.
The next book we will be chatting about is
An Irish Country Love Story by Patrick Taylor.
It's the winter of 1967, and snow is on the ground in the
colorful Irish village of Ballybucklebo, but the chilly weather
can't stop love from warming hearts all over the county. Not
just the love between a man and woman, as with young doctor,
Barry Laverty, and his fiancée Sue Nolan, but also the love of
an ailing pensioner for a faithful dog that's gone missing, the
love of the local gentry for the great estate they are on verge of
losing, or Doctor Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly's deep and abiding
love for his long-time home and practice. An unexpected turn
of events threatens to drive O'Reilly from his home for good,
unless the entire village can rally behind their doctor and prove
that love really can conquer all.
If you have any questions about the book club, please call
Sharon Filler at 648-3973.
