Principal’s Reflection
17 September, 2015
Week 9, Term 3
Dear Families,
This week the Bourke family left on their trip to represent Australia and meet Pope Francis.
The family are the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference official delegates at the World
Meeting of Families. This triennial global event seeks to strengthen the sacred bonds of family
across the globe and highlight its intrinsic value to the good of society. We wish Joel in Yr. 5,
Trinity in Yr. 4 and Sebastian in Transition along with their other family members God’s bless-
ing and safe travel.
This Friday the Catholic Primary School public speaking and sports day competition will be held at St. Mary’s
Primary School. Over the last weeks our year 6 students have been competing to represent Holy Spirit at the
event. I am proud to announce that representing the Yr. 6 students will be Aaron Kurnoth speaking on the topic
“Social media”. I wish Aaron and all Yr. 6 students all the best on the day.
Next Thursday at school we will be celebrating Asian culture at school with “Asia Day”. Students will be involved with
music, dance, performances, craft and cooking. Students are encouraged to dress up in any Asian cultural clothing. Parents
are invited to the whole school Asian Cultural Concert that will be held from 1:30 – 2:30pm.
Next Friday is our Footy Colours Day. Students may wear their favorite sports team colors. If your child does not have a
favorite team they may wear their favorite colours. Please ensure that clothes are sun-safe, no singlets or short shorts
please. A gold coin donation from every participating child will assist in raising funds towards our new adventure play-
ground.
Lately there appears to be an increasing number of students arriving after our morning assembly or when lessons have
commenced. Parents are asked to ensure that children arrive before the bell each day so that they are ready and organised
for the start of the school day. Punctuality is an important lesson to teach our children and it is vital that they learn this les-
son from a young age.
I would like to inform the school community that Ms. Anna Hill who is the Religious Education Co-ordinator and Year 3/4
teacher will be leaving the school at the end of the year. I would like to thank Anna for the work that she has done over her
time here at Holy Spirit. Anna has been a hard working and very professional member of staff who will be greatly missed.
On behalf of the Holy Spirit School community I wish Anna all the best in 2016 and beyond.
Finally, thank you to the families who were able to join us for Special Person’s and Open Day last week. It was a great op-
portunity to showcase our school to current and prospective families and friends.
God bless you all and keep you safe,
Mr. Simon Duffy
Principal
Reflection “Without any doubt, the
mystery of our religion is very
deep indeed: He was made
visible in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels,
proclaimed to the gentiles,
believed in throughout the world, taken up in glory.”

FINAL CONSULTATION ON SCHOOL TERM DATES AND HOLIDAY BREAKS
The Northern Territory Government is undertaking the third and

term dates and holiday breaks for all NTG schools.
Have your say on which of the three proposed models you be-
lieve will provide the best opportunity for Northern Territory
students to achieve their highest possible educational outcomes.
Complete the online survey and/or email
[email protected] to register to participate in a focus
group to discuss the proposed change to the school term dates
and holiday breaks in the Northern Territory. Focus groups will
be held from 21 September –2 October 2015. The online survey
will be open from 7 September – 2 October 2015. The results
collected from the survey and feedback provided from the focus
groups will inform the final decision.
Any change to the current model, will be implemented in 2018.
No change will be made to the school term dates and holiday
breaks prior to 2018, providing a two year lead time to

LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOW Year 3/4, Rm. 17 with Miss Seery & Miss Williams
Wow, what an amazing few weeks we have had in room 17 this
term.
We have been very busy working on our information reports
this term and finding out new information about countries based
in Africa and South America. The students have explored the
features and structure of an information report culminating in
the final task of publishing their report on the iPad app ‘book
creator’.
Last week was a very exciting week in room 17 as we had quite
a few special people come and join us for a fun morning of
learning and music.
Students also had the opportunity to create a role play demon-
strating what they have learned about force, friction and gravity
in our science unit this term. It was great to see the students take
responsibility for their own learning. Great job room 17!
INTRODUCING… Kate Seery
Kate moved to Brisbane, Australia from Ireland in 2010 with
her parents and sister. Since moving to Australia Kate has been
spending most of her time travelling around Australia and New
Zealand taking in all the wonderful places there are to see over
this side of the world. Kate drove to Darwin from Melbourne
last year to experience the dry season and also to visit the place
where she was born. Yes, that’s right she was born in Darwin
and lived here for five years until her parents decided to move
back home. She even attended St. Mary’s primary school during
this short period.
Kate has always had a passion for working with children and
had no hesitation when it came to picking a course to undertake
in university. Kate completed her degree in early childhood edu-
cation before moving to Australia and working in a variety of
relief teaching roles in Brisbane, Melbourne and Darwin. Kate
started her position in Holy Spirit in term three and is teaching a
fabulous year 3/4 class with Miss Williams. She is thoroughly
enjoying her time in Holy Spirit and loves creating a happy,
healthy and safe environment for the children.
Some of Kate’s other passions include travelling, reading and
keeping fit and healthy. She loves exploring Darwin and recent-
ly visited Kakadu and had her first camping experience in the
NT which was fantastic.
Kate loves being a part of the Holy Spirit community
and is excited to see what the rest of the year holds in
store for her and her students.
