    1941:At eleven years old, Warren buys his first stock. He purchases 6 shares

    of Cities Service preferred stock [3 shares for himself, 3 for his sister, at a costof $38 per share.

    1943:Warren declares to a friend of the family that he will be a millionaire bythe time he turns thirty, or "[I'll] jump off the tallest building in Omaha

    1945:Warren is making $175 monthly delivering Washington Postnewspapers. At fourteen years old, he invests $1,200 of his savings into 40acres of farmland.

    1947:In his senior year of high school, Warrenand a friend purchase a used pinball machine at acost of $25. Buffett begins to think about thepotential profit, and places it in a nearby BarberShop. His father presses him to attend college, asuggestion Warren does not take wellNevertheless, that year, he enrolls as a freshmanat the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce

    in Pennsylvania. Buffett hates it, complaining heknows more than the teachers

    1950: Buffett applies for admission to Harvard Business School and is turneddown. He eventually enrolls at Columbia.April, 1952: Warren and Susie get married. They rent an apartment for $65 a

    month, and have their first child, also Susie.

    1954: Ben Graham calls Warren and offers him a job at his partnership.Buffett's starting salary is $12,000 a year.

    1956: Graham retires and folds up hispartnership. Since leaving college six years earlier,Warren's personal savings have grown from$9,800 to over $140,000.

    The Buffett family returns home to Omaha. OnMay 1, Warren created Buffett Associates, Ltd.Seven family members and friends put in a total of$105,000. Buffett himself invested only $100.

    He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from delivering

    newspapers.

    He still lives in the same small 3 bedroom house in mid-town Omaha,that he bought after he got married 50 years ago. He says that he haseverything he needs in that house. His house does not have a wall or a

    fence.

    He drives his own car everywhere and does not have a driver or securitypeople around him.

    He never travels by private jet, although he owns the worlds largest

    private jet company.

    His company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns 63 companies. He writesonly one letter each year to the CEOs of these companies, giving themgoals for the year. He never holds meetings or calls them on a regularbasis.

    He has given his CEOs only two rules. Rule number 1: do not loseany of your share holders money. Rule number 2: Do not forget rule

    number 1.

    He does not socialize with the high society crowd. His pass time afterhe gets home is to make himself some pop corn and watch television.
