Trial Objectives
• Promote to regulatory that Indosat is ready to
refarm existing 1800 freq for LTE
• Leading Indonesia Mobile Broadband
technology
• Gain experience with LTE in terms of
performance, latency, RF behavior, and end-
to-end functionality.

Re-farming 1800 MHz Frequency
for Hot Spot LTE (in building)
4 km
Re-farming Process:
1. Determine target KPI :
• LTE SINR: 25
2. Scanning for LTE
frequency band.
3. Turn on LTE eNodeB.
• Measure SINR target.
4. Gradually clear the
surrounding BTS from 10
MHz used by LTE
• Frequency clearance
up to 4 km from LTE
hot spot
SINR 25 is achieved after clearance within 4 km in this area (urban area).
The same Frequency 1800 block may be re-used out side 4 km radius.

Adjacent Channel Interference
In this hot spot scenario, It requires at least 200 KHz guard band with GSM system
to maintain DL performance and DCS SQI
Uplink performance remain constant.

Summary and Next Plan
17
Summary and Next Plan
Next Plan
• Further exploration of RF characteristics: macro, dense urban
• Business feasibility of LTE re-farming: deployment strategy, cost
analysis, application
• Indosat will promote 1800 as LTE re-farming spectrum
Summary
1. LTE in 1800 MHz is promising ecosystem in Indonesia.
2. Gradual re-farming process can be done quickly by understanding the
boundaries of re-farming distance radius.
3. LTE needs cleaner spectrum. Interference planning and RF
optimization is a must-do.
4. Guard band is proposed to maintain LTE DL performance and 2G SQI.
As the result of this trial, at least 200KHz guard band is needed.
5. LTE re-farming is a potential strategy for Indosat.
