General InformationThis Service Manual describes the operation,disassembly, troubleshooting, and repair of Maytag®

Dishwashers. It is intended for use by authorizedservicer’s who troubleshoot and repair these units.

NOTE: It is assumed that users of this manual arefamiliar with the use of tools and equipment usedto troubleshoot and repair electrical, andmechanical systems; and understand theterminology used to describe and discuss them.

General Precautions and Warnings• Dispose of discarded appliance and shipping or

packing material properly.• Do not allow children to play in or on dishwasher.• Do not abuse, sit, stand or play on door or racks of a

dishwasher.• Use only detergents and rinse agents recommended for

use in a dishwasher.• Store dishwasher detergent and rinse agents out of the

reach of children.• If the dishwasher drains into a food disposer, make

sure disposer is completely empty before runningdishwasher.

• Repairs should be done by a qualified technician.• Do not tamper with controls.• Do not touch the heating element during or immediately

after use.• Load sharp knives with the handles up to reduce the

risk of cut-type injuries or damaging seal.

To avoid risk of personal injury or death due toelectrical shock:

• Grounding wires and wires colored like groundingwires are NOT to be used as current carryingconductors.

• Standard accepted color coding for ground wiresis green or green with a yellow stripe.

• Grounding wires should not be removed fromindividual components while servicing, unlesscomponent is to be removed and replaced.

• Replace all removed grounding wires beforecompleting service.

WARNING!

To avoid death, severe personal injury, fire orelectrical shock when using dishwasher observethe following:

• Observe all local codes and ordinances.

• Disconnect electrical power to dishwasher beforeservicing.

• Connect dishwasher to a grounded metal,permanent wiring system.

• DO NOT ground to gas line.

• DO NOT ground to cold water pipe if pipe isinterrupted by plastic, non-metallic gaskets, orother insulating (non-conducting) materials.

• Check with a qualified electrician if you are notsure this appliance is properly grounded.

• This dishwasher is designed to operate onregular house current (120 V, 60 Hz). Use acircuit equipped with a 15 ampere fuse or circuitbreaker. Use a 20 ampere fuse if dishwasher isconnected with a food waste disposer.

• Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may beproduced in a hot water system that has notbeen used for 2 weeks or more. HYDROGENGAS IS EXPLOSIVE. If hot water system hasnot been used for such a period, before usingdishwasher, turn on all hot water faucets and letwater flow from each for several minutes. This willrelease any accumulated hydrogen gas.HYDROGEN GAS IS FLAMMABLE. Do notsmoke or use an open flame during this time.

• Do not store or use combustible materials,gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids inthe vicinity of this or any other appliance.

• Do not wash plastic items unless marked"dishwasher safe" or the equivalent. If notmarked, check with manufacturer forrecommendations. Items that are not dishwashersafe may melt and create a potential fire hazard.

• To avoid entrapment and/or suffocation, removedoor or door latch mechanism from anydishwasher that is discarded or not in use.

Section 2. Electrical Equipment & TestingElectrical Test Equipment

The equipment required to service these models dependslargely upon the condition encountered. Locating amalfunction will often require the use of electrical testingequipment such as:

Appliance Test MeterClamp-On AmmeterMotor Test Cord

Appliance Test Meter

An Appliance Test Meter is a multi-purpose testercombining an AC/DC voltage tester with a multi-rangeohmmeter.

The easiest means of testing electrical components is"Continuity Testing" with an appliance meter. Continuityis a complete or continuous path from one point in anelectrical circuit to another.

The obvious advantages of being able to check electricalcomponents and circuits without power applied is one ofthe features of the Ohmmeter. Multiple ranges allowaccurate determination of resistances of both singlecomponents and entire circuit paths. Resistance ismeasured in "Ohms."


Always be sure the power has been disconnectedbefore making resistance measurements. Failure todo so will also result in damage to your meter!Internal batteries provide all the power needed tomake resistance checks. They should be checkedat least once a year and replaced as needed.

Continuity Testing: is a process of eliminating electricalcomponents involved in a given function of the appliance,until the inoperative part is found. By reviewing the list ofpossible electrical problems under a given condition, andthen performing appropriate continuity checks of the partsinvolved, you should be able to locate the electricalcomponent which is inoperative.

NOTE: When checking components or circuit paths forcontinuity, external wiring should be disconnected toeliminate false readings through external paths. Isolatewhat you want to test.

Digital Test Metercan be used to check for openor closed circuits, measureresistance, AC and DC volts,and temperature.

Analog Test Metercan be used to check foropen or closed circuits,measure resistance, AC andDC volts, and temperature.

VOLTAGE CHECKS

Generally, these checks will consist of taking readingsat the wall receptacle in order to determine theavailability of voltage to the product. Voltage checks onindividual components of a product are notrecommended due to the possibility of electrical shock.Component part testing is best accomplished throughcontinuity checks with an Appliance Test Meter.

NOTE: Use of the meter on voltage higher than theindicated range may cause permanent damage to themeter. To prevent damage, first select highest range andthen lower the range for readings which fall within thelower scale.

Clamp-On Ammetercan be used to detect shorts.Overloads on the circuit breakeror fuse can be tracedto either the applianceor circuit breaker bychecking the currentdraw.

Each circuit in an appliance has a "Normal" currentdraw, which is an indication of the performance of thatcircuit. Current draw levels of less than or more thannormal give clues to possible malfunctions. The clamp-on ammeter measures these circuits without breakingthe circuit by measuring the strength of the magneticfield developed around each conductor. Current is readby separating the conductors and clamping the jaws ofthe ammeter around each conductor on which current isread. Low amperage readings indicate problems, suchas damaged heating elements, etc. High amperagereadings indicate the unit being tested is operating underan increased mechanical or electrical load.

NOTE: Overloads on a circuit breaker or fuse can betraced to the product being tested or the circuit breaker(or fuse) by checking the products current draw. If theamperage reading is less than the breaker reading, thebreaker or fuse box is at fault.

Use of Ammeter on dishwasher:

1. Motor Current - the reading can be taken at theleads on the motor start relay or at the male connec-tor.

2. Heating Element Current - The reading can betaken using either lead to the element.

Motor Test Cord

A motor test cord may be used to electrically checkoperation of the various electrical components withoutremoving them from the unit. Testing in this mannermerely determines whether or not the part will functionindependently of other electrical components. In order tomake accurate tests, proper connection of the motor testcord is important. With the aid of the drawings underDrive Motor Test, installation of the motor test cord maybe done quickly and accurately.

Grounding and Polarity

The receptacle used for all Maytag products operating on120 VAC must be properly grounded and polarized.

The power cord used on the appliances should beequipped with a three (3) prong polarized grounding plug



• Always plug test cord into a properly groundedreceptacle.

• Do not cut or remove the grounding prong from anyplug.

DANGER!

• Always make connection to components beforeplugging test cord into receptacle.

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT & TESTING


for protection against shock hazard and should beplugged directly into a properly grounded and polarizedreceptacle.It is the responsibility of the person installing theappliance to assure it is adequately grounded andpolarized at the point of installation, taking intoconsideration local conditions and requirements. Incases where only a two (2) prong receptacle is available,it is the personal responsibility of the consumer to have itreplaced with a properly grounded three (3) prongreceptacle. All grounding and wiring should be done inaccordance with National, State, and Local codes. DONOT USE AN ADAPTER PLUG WITH THISAPPLIANCE.

ELECTRICAL TESTS





WATER VALVE TEST

The Water Valve may be checked without removing it fromthe Dishwasher.

To check the Water Valve for operation, hook up the testcord as follows:

Wax Motor CheckDetergent / Rinse Aid Dispenser

A single Wax Motor is used to activate both the release ofthe Detergent Cup Cover and the rinse aid from thereservoir.

To check the operation of the Wax Motor, removal fromthe Dispenser Retainer or Inner Door is not necessary.First, snap the Detergent Cup Door shut. Then, connecta Power Test Cord across the two terminals of the WaxMotor. Plug the Power Test Cord into a 120 VACreceptacle. The plunger in the center of the Wax Motorshould "push out" and actuate the Dispenser inapproximately 45-60 seconds. Remove voltage to theWax Motor and allow the plunger to retract into the WaxMotor. Apply voltage to the Wax Motor again and observefor proper lifting of the rinse aid plunger.

Wax Motor Check- VentA single continuous duty wax motor is used to operatethe vent.

Connect a Power Test Cord across the two terminals ofthe Wax Motor. Plug the Power Test Cord into a 120 VACreceptacle. The punger should extend (push out) andforce the Vent Flap tight against the vent opening inapproximately 45-60 seconds. When power is removedfrom the Wax Motor, the plunger should retract along withthe Vent Flap, opening the vent.

Section 3. Cycles & Options

Cycle Description

Auto Clean Designed to auto select the number of fills and length of wash time based on soil levelof the dish load. Water usage ranges from 3 to 8 gallons.

Heavy Wash Designed to provide a longer cycle for washing items with heavyfood soils. Water usage is 8 gallons.

Normal Wash Designed to wash loads containing dishes with normal amounts of food soils.Water usage ranges from 3 to 6 gallons.

Light Wash Designed to wash loads containing dishes that are lightly soiled. Water usage is 5gallons.

Quick Wash Designed for light food soils. The cycle ends with a rinse and does not include drying.Water usage is 4 gallons.

Rinse Only Rinses dishes being held until the dishwasher is full, and anothercycle is selected. This cycle helps reduce the potential for development of odors.Water usage is 2 gallons.

Option Description

Tough Scrub™ This option adds fills, heat and/or wash time to theTough Scrub Plus™ wash cycle.

Sanitize This option monitors cycles for sanitization.

Extra Rinse This option adds an extra rinse to the cycle which helps in hard water situations.

160° Wash This option raises temperature in the final rinse to 160° F.

Heated Dry This option improves drying results by turning the heating element on and off duringthe dry portion of the cycle.

Delay Delays the start of the dishwasher based on user input.

Control Lock Lock's the control touch pads from unwanted usage. This option does not lock thedoor.

Display Description

Clean The "Clean" light illuminates at the end of the cycle and remains on until the door hasbeen open continuously for 30 seconds.

Drying The "Drying" light illuminates until the cycle is complete.

Washing The "Wash" light illuminates through all the rinse and wash portions of the cycle.

Heating Delay The "Heating Delay" light illuminates when the cycle is being extended to heat thewater.

Clean/Sanitized These two lights illuminate from the end of cycle until the next cycle is selected,or the door has been open continuously for 30 seconds.

Delay The "Delay" light will illuminate whenever a delay count down is in progress, or untilthe "Delay" pad is pressed again.

Section 4. Electrical-MechanicalTroubleshooting

Will Not Fill

Water Access ValveCheck to determine if the valve is turned on and water isavailable to the Dishwasher. Check water pressure.

Circuit Breaker/FuseCheck for tripped breaker or blown fuse. Reset or replaceas necessary.

Door LatchCheck door switches for continuity. With door switchesengaged, no continuity, replace switch.

FloatCheck float position. If in the up position, check forobstruction or disengagement from the Float Switch Arm.

Float SwitchIf the float is in the down position, check the switch forcontinuity. If no continuity, replace the Float Switch.

Water ValveCheck Solenoid for continuity. No continuity, replaceWater Valve. Check Inlet Screen for restrictions. Cleanscreen or replace Water Valve as necessary. (See section5).

Wiring/Electrical ConnectionsCheck for loose or frayed wire terminal connections.Check for broken wire within harness. Repair or replaceas necessary.

NOTE: Low water pressure can result in failure of theWater Valve to close properly.

FloatEnsure that the Float isn't stuck in the down position.Check for sediment buildup. Clean and/or replace asnecessary.

Float Switch Actuator LeverCheck the actuator lever on the bracket. It must be ableto move freely. Repair or replace as necessary. (Seesection 5).

Float SwitchCheck Float Switch for continuity with the Float in the upposition. If continuity is present and Float moves up anddown freely, replace Float Switch.

WARNINGTo avoid risk of electrical shock, personal injury, or death, disconnect electrical power source to unit and dischargecapacitor through a 10,000 ohm resistor before attempting to service, unless test procedures require power to beconnected. Ensure all ground wires are connected before certifying unit as repaired and/or operational.

CAUTION!Units covered in this manual are polarized. Reversing polarity of a unit or any of its components will causedamage. To avoid reversing polarity, any wires disconnected or removed during service must be reconnected to thesame location. To ensure wires are reconnected to the proper location, tag or otherwise mark the wires beforedisconnecting or removing.

POOR WATER CIRCULATION

Water Level - Too LowNormal water fill should be at level depicted by arrows.

Pump AssemblyCheck assembly for obstructions or restricted movementof parts. Repair and/or replace parts as necessary.

Overflows

Water ValveCheck that water continues to flow when electrical poweris turned off. If the water continues to flow withoutelectrical power, replace Water Valve.


FiltersCheck for blockage of Strainer, Over Pressure Filter.Repair as necessary.

Poor Washability

Spray ArmsCheck all Spray Arms for blockage of water ports orcracks. Check for proper rack loading to avoid interferencewith Spray Arms during wash action. Check for propersealing, fastening, and movement of Spray Arms. Repairas necessary.

FiltersCheck for blockage of Strainer, Primary Filter, and FilterSupport. Repair as necessary.

Cycle OptionsAdvise consumer use of options available on dishwasherthat improve drying. Options that improve drying areHeated Dry, and 160° Wash.

DetergentCheck water hardness. Instruct consumer on detergentusage, one teaspoon of detergent per grain of waterhardness.

Section 5. Service and Disassembly Procedures


The following paragraphs describe how to disassembleunit under test. Disassembly to some extent is requiredto install unit, to perform troubleshooting procedures, andto remove and replace failed components.

Component names used throughout disassemblyprocedures are the same as those used in PartsManuals.

For quicker reassembly, disassemble unit under test onlyto extent necessary to troubleshoot and repair. Unlessnoted, reassembly is opposite of disassembly.

WARNING!

Front Support and Toe Panel Removal

Removal of Front Support and Toe Panel will allow accessto the Water Valve, Float Switch Assembly, ElectricalJunction Box, hoses, thermostats, Start Capacitor andMotor/Pump Assembly.

Removal

1. Disconnect power to the machine.

2. The Front Support Panel is held by 2 screws, oneeach side. Remove both screws.

3. The Toe Panel is held by 2 screws, one each side.

To avoid risk of personal injury or death due toelectrical shock, ground wires and wires colored likeground wires are NOT to be used as current carryingconductors. The standard accepted color coding forground wires is green or green with a yellowstripe. Electrical components such as the water valveand motor are grounded through an individual wireattached to the electrical component. Ground wiresshould not be removed from individual componentswhile servicing, unless the component is to beremoved and replaced. It is extremely important toreplace all removed ground wires before completingservice.


Inner Door Panel

Removal of the Inner Door Panel will allow access to theMicroprocessor Board, Door Switches, Detergent / RinseAid Dispenser, and Vent Assembly.

Removal


2. Open the Dishwasher door.

3. Remove the 11 Torx™ screws along the sides andtop of the Inner Door Panel.

4. Separate the Inner Door Panel from the Outer Door.

5. Disconnect wires from the Vent and Dispenser WaxMotors before pulling the Inner Door Panel awayfrom the Dishwasher.

IMPORTANT: When replacing Inner Door Panel, removeInner Door reinforcement, Bottom Seal and install onnew panel.

Detergent / Rinse Dispenser Mechanismand Reservoir

Checking Operation


2. Remove the Inner Door Panel. (See paragraph InnerDoor Panel removal).

3. Snap the Detergent Door shut.

4. Gently lift the lever of the dispenser mechanism untila click is herd. The Detergent Door releases. Re-lease the lever.

5. Lift the lever again. Now the actuator will lift the RinseAid Plunger.

Service and Disassembly Procedures



Wax Motor Detergent / Rinse Dispenser

Removal



3. Remove the 6 mounting screws securing theDetergent Dispenser mounting bracket.

4. To remove the Wax Motor, pry out of retainer.NOTE: It is not necessary to remove Detergent

Dispenser before removing Wax Motor.



Vent

The Vent is located on the Inner Door Panel to allowmoisture to be vented outside of the Dishwasher duringthe dry cycle.

Removal



3. Rotate Vent Cover counter clockwise 1/4 turn and liftoff.

Wire Cover

The Wire Cover retains the Wire Harness to the bottom ofthe Tub. It is located on the bottom side of the Tub.

Removal


2. Remove Front Support and Toe Panel. (See paragraphFront Support and Toe Panel removal).

3. Remove 2 screws securing Wire Cover to bottom ofTub.

4. Feed Wire Harness out of bracket.


Door Latch & Switch Holder Assembly

Two Door Switches are used in the Latch Assembly. Bothswitches are normally CLOSED and will open only whenengaged by the Door Latch mechanism. Each switch isin series with respect to L1 and neutral line operations.Failure of either or both switches will result in renderingthe Dishwasher inoperative.

NOTE: Door Switches require no field adjustment.

3. Lift Door Latch Assembly out.

Switch Removal



3. Remove Door Latch and Switch Holder Assembly.

4. Depress locking tabs and lift switch from holder.




PC Board

Removal



3. To access PC Board, remove 1/4" screw on PCBoard Housing Cover.

4. To remove PC Board, loosen (2) 1/4" screwssecuring PC Board Base to Control Panel.

5. Remove pin and ribbon connectors from PC Board.

6. Depress tabs on PC Board Housing to remove PCBoard.

The Dishwasher Technical Sheet is located behind theToe Panel. The Schematic Diagram is unique to eachmodel and contains the following:

Removal



3. Remove PC Board Housing Cover. (See paragraphPC Board removal).

4. Disconnect Membrane Switch from PC Board.

5. Remove PC Board Base.

6. Lift out Latch Assembly.

7. Remove 4 screws securing Control Panel to OuterDoor.

NOTE: Facia is susceptible to damage duringreinstallation.

DOOR LATCH STRIKEThe Door Latch serves as a mechanical actuator for DoorSwitch operation and provides door tension for properdoor seal.


To avoid risk of electrical shock, personal injury, or death, disconnect electrical power source to unit and dischargecapacitor through a 10,000 ohm resistor before attempting to service, unless test procedures require power to beconnected. Ensure all ground wires are connected before certifying unit as repaired and/or operational.


Removal


2. Remove Torx™ screw securing Strike to Tub.

DOOR GASKET

The Door Gasket provides a seal between the Door andthe Tub.

Removal

1. Open Door.

2. From either corner, pull gasket up and out of tubrecess.

Replacement

1. To ease installation, wet gasket with water.

2. Starting in the lower right corner, Gently work gasketinto the recess of Tub up the right side.

3. With other end, place gasket flush with the Tub inlower left corner.

4. Gently work gasket in to the recess of the Tub, up theleft side, and across the top.

5. Check for proper Door Latch adjustment to ensureproper door sealing.

Outer Door

Removal



3. Remove 2 screws securing PC Board Base to InnerDoor Panel.

4. Lift off Latch Assembly.

5. Lay Outer Door to it's fully open position.

6. Prop door open, by inserting an object into the 1/8"dia. hole in hinge bracket.




Door Hinge and Support

Removal


2. Remove the Outer Door Panel. (See paragraph OuterDoor Panel removal).

3. Remove Dishwasher from cabinets.



7. Remove 4 screws securing Control Panel to OuterDoor.

8. Remove 4 screws securing Outer Door to DoorHinges. (2 each side).

9. Slide Outer Door off of Door Hinges.

4. Disconnect Cable Link from Hinge. (See warningabove).

5. Lift Hinge out of Hinge Support.

6. Remove 2 attachment screws if replacing hingesupport.

Door Spring

The Door Springs provide a counter balance to the weightof the door.

The Door Spring position is preset by model at the factory.If possible note the position of the spring. This may bedetermined by wear marks. Door Spring adjustmentBrackets are located on the lower right and left side of theDishwasher. Spring tension is achieved by positioning thespring in the slots provided. The higher position increasesspring tension.

Do not remove Door Prop until tension is relieved fromdoor spring.

WARNING!

NOTE: Always point spring hooks toward the Dishwasher.


Over Pressure Filter

The purpose of the Over Pressure Filter is to filtersediment missed by the lower filter rather than circulatingit back through the wash.

Removal

1. Spread locking tabs.

2. Rotate filter down and remove from manifold.

Top Wash Arm

Removal

1. Spread locking tabs and remove Wash Arm Retainer.

Door Spring and Component Replacement

NOTE: Always point spring hooks toward the Dishwasher.


2. Remove Dishwasher from cabinets.

3. Attach Door Cable Link to Door Hinge.

4. Attach Cable to Cable Link.

5. Route Cable under Cable Roller.

6. Attach Cable to short hook of Spring.

7. Place large hook end of Spring into Spring AdjustmentBracket in proper location.

NOTE: To replace Cable Bracket, remove 2 Torx™screws securing bracket to frame. Seeprocedure above for reassembly of Spring andCable.




Manifold

Water is supplied to the Top and Center Wash Armsthrough this tube via the Pump Assembly. The Manifoldattaches to the Pump Assembly and runs vertically up therear and along the top of the Dishwasher Tub. TheManifold is attached to the Tub with a clip.

Removal


2. Remove Racks, Stops, and Rack Assemblies.

3. Spread Manifold Clips located on the back and top ofTub.

4. Tip top of Manifold towards door opening slightly.Disengage the snap located on the bottom of theManifold, locking the Manifold to the DischargeHousing .

5. Slide Manifold back and out of the Pump Assembly.

Docking Station

The purpose of the Docking Station is to seal the waterflow to the upper rack Wash Arm.

Removal

1. Slide Upper Rack forward to gain access to DockingStation.

2. Spread sides of Docking Station and remove fromManifold.

Lower Wash Arm

Water is supplied to the Lower Wash Arm via the PumpAssembly.

Removal


2. Remove lower Rack Assembly.

3. Loosen Wash Arm Hub and Pivot.

4. Lift Wash Arm out of Dishwasher.




Float

The Float Assembly controls the amount of water fill.

The Float Switch is wired in series with the WaterValve. When the Float Switch OPENS, the electricalcircuit to the Water Valve is opened, causing theWater Valve to shut off.

A normal fill is when water makes contact withheating element in bottom of dishwasher.

To Check Float Switch


2. Perform continuity check of switch across terminals.

Closed- Actuator of switch depressed.Open- Actuator of switch released.

Removal


2. Lift Float straight up from Float Guide.


4. Remove electrical connectors on switch.

5. Float Switch mounting screw is located behind FloatSwitch mounting plate. Loosen 1/4" screw severalturns to remove entire assembly.

6. Spread locking tabs on Float Switch mounting plateto remove switch.




Heating Element

The purpose of the Heating Element is to provide heatduring the dry cycle and increase water temperatureduring portions of the wash cycle when certain options areselected.

The element is dual wattage. During wash cycles, it israted at 830 watts. During the dry portion of the cycle, itis rated at 650 watts. Increased wattage is possiblebecause of water flowing across the element sheath.

To Check Heating Element



3. Locate element terminals, remove wires, performcontinuity check across terminals.

4. The resistance of the element should beapproximately 22 ohms. If OPEN, replace element.

5. Perform continuity check from each terminal to theelement sheath. NO continuity should be present. Ifcontinuity is present, replace the element.

Removal



3. Locate element terminals and remove wires.

4. Remove mounting nuts securing Heating Element toTub.

5. Release Heating Element by tipping Heater SupportBrackets towards the Tub front corners and rotatinguntil bracket unlocks.

6. Lift element out of Tub.

NOTE: Before reinstalling Heating Element, examinecondition of O-ring seals that are located betweenelement leads and tub basin. Replace if needed.Failure of seal will result in a water leak andpossible floor damage.

Wattage Checks

To verify wattage of the element, take an amperagereading at the blue wire of the Heating Element. Multiplythe amperage reading by voltage at the Dishwasher(Amps x Volts = Watts).

Normal element amperage during the dry portion of thecycle is 5.0 to 5.5 amps. When used during a washcycle, normal amperage is 7.0 to 7.5 amps.




Thermostats

Two types of thermostats are used in the Dishwasher. AThermistor and a Limit Thermostat.

The Thermistor is used to sense water temperature whencertain cycles or options are selected (Refer to Cycles &Options section). The Thermistor is part of the sensormounted in the Tub.

The other thermostat is a Limit Thermostat and is used asa protective device to sense overheating of the HeatingElement. It is located behind the Front Support and ToePanel. The limit is mounted to the tub bottom. Thisthermostat has ¼" terminals and has a normally CLOSEDposition.

NOTE: Refer to section labeled Technical Data forspecifications on thermostat.

Removal



3. Press down on spring clip to release from Tub androtate till clip unlocks.

4. Remove wires from thermostat.

NOTE: When reinstalling, proper location and wiring ofthermostat(s) is critical.

Water Valve

The valve is located behind the Support and Toe Panel,mounted to the left side of the Tub Support. Inlet watersupply to the valve is directly below the valve.

NOTE: Turn off water supply to the Dishwasher beforeservicing this component.

The valve is designed to operate at water pressures of 15 -120 psi.

NOTE: Low water pressure will affect the ability of theWater Valve to properly fill Tub in the requiredamount of time.

Incoming water temperature should be a minimum of 120degrees F. However, a higher water temperature willenhance washing and drying results.

Removal


2. Turn off water supply to the Dishwasher.

3. Remove Support and Toe Panels. (See paragraphFront Support and Toe Panel removal).

4. Remove wires from Valve Solenoid.

5. Remove 2 1/4" screws securing Water Valve to WaterValve Bracket.

6. Disconnect injector hose at valve outlet.




Checking Valve Operation

No Fill


2. Remove Support and Toe Panel. (See paragraph FrontSupport and Toe Panel removal).

3. Remove wires from Valve Solenoid.

4. Perform continuity check across terminals ofSolenoid. If NO continuity is present, replace WaterValve.

Alternate Test: Use Motor Test Cord hooked directly tothe Valve Solenoid. Turn water supply onand plug in test cord. If NO water ispresent, replace Water Valve.

Overfill

If Water Valve allows water to flow without power to ValveSolenoid, replace the Water Valve.

NOTE: The Water Valve is a non-repairable component.The only servicing required is to clean the InletScreen if needed.

Inlet Screen

Sediment on the Inlet Screen can hinder water flowthrough the Water Valve.

Cleaning


2. Remove Water Valve from the Dishwasher (See WaterValve Removal).

3. Remove 4 screws securing valve body to Water InletMounting Bracket.

4. Clean screen.

NOTE: Make sure to reattach the ground wire to themounting bracket.

Air Water Inlet

The Air Water Inlet is located on the left side of the Tub,and mounted to the exterior of Tub. Removal of the AirWater Inlet requires the removal of the Dishwasher fromunder the counter.

Removal


2. Remove the Air Water Inlet Cover located on the leftinside wall of Tub. Pull cover straight out to remove.

3. Carefully pull back insulation from the left side of theTub.

4. Remove rubber hose from channel in Tub, or slip off offitting on inlet.

5. Grasp upper portion of the Air/Water Inlet. Pull androtate the Air/Water Inlet clockwise to release it fromthe Tub.




Replacement

1. Examine the Air Water Inlet Seal for damage.

2. Align Air Water Inlet tabs with notches in Tub, androtate counterclockwise into position.

3. Replace Air Water Inlet Cover inside Tub.

Upper Rack Removal

To remove Upper Rack, remove Rack Stops. Unlatch stopby moving as shown in direction of arrow toward center ofTub.

Tub Wheels

To remove, unlatch rear Rack Stop. Slide track out ofDishwasher. Remove tub wheel shaft with Torx™ driver.

NOTE: Tub wheel shaft contains a small steel washer.

Turbidity Sensor

The Turbidity Sensor is located on the bottom and to theleft of the Pump Module Assembly. The sensor measuressoil level in the water. Turbidity is determined by a beamof infrared light directed from one probe and read by theother. This information is interpreted as water soil level.

Removal


2. Remove Front Support and Toe panel. (See paragraphFront Support and Toe Panel removal).

3. Remove the 2 Torx™ screws securing the sensor tothe tub bottom.

4. Pull sensor straight out.

NOTE: When installing sensor, examine the "O" ring sealand replace if necessary. The sensor hasalignment ribs to aid in installation.




Drain Pump

The Drain Pump will drain water from the Dishwasher invarious cycles. If a failure is suspected, the entire PumpAssembly needs to be replaced.

Removal


2. Remove Support and Toe Panel. (See paragraph FrontSupport and Toe Panel removal).

3. Disconnect lead wire from Pump Assembly.

4. Disconnect drain hose from Pump Assembly.

5. Remove Torx™ screw through bushing in PumpMounting Plate.

6. Rotate Pump Assembly to unlock from Tub.

Wash Motor Assembly

The Wash Motor Assembly is designed to providerecirculating, filter, wash and particle chopping functionsfor the dishwasher cycles.

Removal


2. Remove racks.

3. Remove Wash Manifold

4. Loosen Wash Arm Hub and Pivot.

5. Remove Spray Arm.

6. Remove 3 Torx™ screws securing Filter Guard.

7. Entire Wash Motor Assembly can be lifted from Tubfor further disassembly.

8. Remove and replace Pump Gasket if necessary.

9. Disconnect wiring harness from Wash MotorAssembly.

10. Remove 6 Torx™ screws securing DischargeHousing.

11. Remove Torx™ screw securing Wash Impeller . Seebottom side of motor for access hole to lock motorrotation while removing Torx™ screw. Insert screwdriver tip into access hole while removing screw.

12. Lift off Filter/Flowplate Assembly to access ChopperPlate.

13. Remove 3 Torx™ screws to remove Chopper Plate.

14. Lift off Chopper






15. Remove Chopper Sleeve by using Impeller as awrench. Lock motor rotation using the access holeprovided in back of motor.

16. Lift off Seal Seat Assembly.

11. Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in ahot water system that has not been used for two weeks ormore.Hydrogen gas is explosive. If the hot water system hasnot been used for such a period, turn on all hot water faucetsand let the water flow from each for several minutes.This willrelease any accumulated hydrogen gas. As the gas is flamma-ble, do not smoke or use an open flame during this process.

12. Do not wash plastic items unless marked “dishwasher safe”or the equivalent. For plastic items not so marked, checkthe manufacturer’s recommendations.

13. Do not tamper with controls.14. To prevent accidental child entrapment and suffocation risks,

always remove the door to the washing compartment whenremoving an old dishwasher from service or discarding it.

15. Use caution when unloading the dishwasher. Dishes will behot if unloaded shortly after a cycle has completed.

BEFORE YOU START• Don’t prerinse. Simply scrape off any

bones or large food particles.

• If connected to a food waste disposer,make certain the disposer is emptybefore starting the dishwasher.

• Scrape off tomato-based food soils(see page 8).

• Remove certain foods (such as mus-tard, mayonnaise, lemon juice, vinegar, saltor dressings) from stainless steel flat-ware as soon as possible. These foods

may cause rusting and pitting if allowed toremain in contact with the surface for anextended period of time.

GENERALRECOMMENDATIONS• Items can be centered behind a single

tine or loaded at an angle to maximizespace.

• Avoid blocking or preventing the sprayarms from spinning freely. Do not allowitems to extend beyond the racks.

RECOMMENDEDLOADING(Rack features vary by model)

For best dishwashing results follow theseguidelines to determine the best arrange-ment for your items.

UPPER RACK

Glasses, cups, stemware, light-weight plas-tics, plates, bowls, pans, long-handled uten-sils etc. can be loaded in this rack. Do notload glasses over the tines.

The Stack-Rack (select models) on the rightside of the upper rack folds up or down forloading flexibility. Fold it down to hold long-handled knives, spatulas and spoons or shortitems like cups or juice glasses. Fold it up fortaller items like glasses, bowls, plates, etc.

The Stack-Rack is designed to holdstemware in place.Taller stemware will fitbetter on the right side as the upper rackis deeper on this side.

The folding tines (select models) located inthe front right corner provide convenientloading space for large, bulky items likepots and pans or mixing bowls

The cup clips (select models) located inthe center of the upper rack can be usedto hold light weight plastic items, cookingutensils, knives, etc. in place. Clip the itembetween the tine and the clip.

The Vari-Lock™ Snugger (select models)on the left secures lightweight items inplace. It can be adjusted by grasping thewavy wire and rotating it left to snug itemsagainst the outer rack or to the right torest on top of light items. Do not loaditems on top of the wire.

For best results with tall glasses, align theVari-Lock™ Snugger (select models) wavywire with the arrow on the rack clip. Restthe bottom of the glass against the wavywire.

LOADING

With the Stack-Rack (select models)shelf raised, thin items like cookie sheetsor pizza pans may be placed along the leftside. With the shelf down, two levels ofglasses and cups can be loaded.

Positioning the Fold-Away™ Tines (selectmodels) flat in the back, left corner pro-vides convenient loading space for large,bulky items like pots and pans or mixingbowls.

Convertible Tines (select models) in theback, right corner can be adjusted to pro-vide narrow spacing for loading plates orwide spacing for loading deep bowls, potsor pans. Flip tines up for narrow spacing ordown for wider spacing.

LOWER RACK A variety of large items such as dinnerplates, mixing bowls, pots and pans andbaking dishes can be loaded in this rack.

Tall items such as bakeware and large plat-ters can be placed on the left side.

LOADING CONT.

The Adjustable Upper Rack (selectmodels) can be raised or lowered toaccommodate taller plates, platters, pans,etc. in the upper or lower racks. Full sizeplates can be loaded in the upper rackwhen the upper rack is in the lower posi-tion.

TO LOWER THE RACK:

• Pull the rack fully out.

• Place hands on each adjuster.

• Press down on the top blue button andpush down (the button will slide towardsthe center of the rack).

• The rack will come to a stop when it is inposition.

TO RAISE THE RACK:

• Pull the rack fully out.

• Place hands on each adjuster.

• Lift up both sides until rack comes to astop.

ADJUSTABLE UPPER RACK(Select models)

Note:• The dishwasher will not operate correctly

if the upper rack wash arm connection isnot aligned with one of the water inletholes on back wall.

• The left and right side adjusters must bothbe in the upward or downward position forproper connection.

REMOVING THE UPPERRACKThe upper rack can be removed when tallor oversized items need to be loaded intothe lower rack. Unload rack prior toremoving.

TO REMOVE:

• Roll the upper rack 1/3 to 1/2 of the wayout.

• Remove the plastic rack stop from theend of each track.To remove each plastic

rack stop, push inward (towards therack) on the ridged area of the rack stop.The rack stop will snap open and can beeasily removed by pulling straight out.Take care to support the track whileremoving rack stops.

• Roll the rack all the way out of the trackand remove from the dishwasher.

• Reverse the above procedure to replacethe upper rack into the dishwasher. Rack Stop

REMOVABLE UTENSIL BASKET(Design varies by model)

For best cleaning results, prevent itemsfrom nesting together by placing someitems in the basket with handles up andsome with handles down. Load knives, han-dles up and spoons and forks handlesdown, through the slots in the hinged cov-ered section(s) (when closed).

Be sure that thin, finely pointed items donot extend through the basket.

This could block the lowerwash arm.

Small, lightweight itemslike baby spoons and

plastic measuring spoonsshould be placed in the sec-

tion(s) with the hingedcover(s).

ODDS & ENDS BASKET(Select models)

Use this supplemental basket in the upperrack for loading miscellaneous items and

utensils. This is also a safeplace to load sharp

knives andp o i n t e ditems.

SPLIT & FIT UTENSIL BASKET(Select models)

The split silverware basket can be separatedand placed in several locations in the bot-tom rack. Hold the basket firmly along thesides. Follow the unlock direction arrowsimprinted on the basket and slide the basket

apart until it splits intotwo. Load flatware and

utensils into bothsections or just one,depending upon

your load.


HOT WATERFor optimal cleaning and dryingresults, hot water is necessary. Theincoming water temperature shouldbe 120–140° F (49-60° C) to properlyactivate the detergent and meltgreasy food soils.

To check the incoming water temperature,turn on the hot water faucet nearest thedishwasher and let it run into a glass in thesink. Place a candy thermometer in theglass and check the temperature once ithas stopped rising. If the temperature isbelow 120° F (49° C), have a qualified per-son raise the water heater thermostat set-ting.

Before starting the dishwasher, turn on thehot water faucet and let it run until thewater is hot.This assures that the initial fillof water is hot.

DETERGENTUse a detergent designed specifically foruse in an automatic dishwasher. Be sure itis fresh and stored in a cool, dry place (notunder the sink).

RECOMMENDED AMOUNT

Too little detergent results in poor clean-ing, hard water filming/spotting and poordrying. Too much detergent can cause per-manent etching/cloudiness.

The amount of detergent to use is deter-mined by the hardness of the water and

soil level of the load. Refer to the follow-ing chart for detergent usage recommen-dations.

Do not use detergent with Rinse Only.Leave the detergent lid open when runningRinse Only.

In extremely hard water conditions (13grains per gallon or more*), it is difficult toachieve good results with any dishwasher.A mechanical water softener may be nec-essary to improve water quality, detergenteffectiveness, and protect the dishwasherparts from the damage that hard water cancause.

RINSE AIDRegular use of a rinse aid improvesdrying, reduces spotting and filming,and reduces moisture left on thedishwasher interior.

An automatic rinse aid dispenser is locatednext to the detergent cups. The windownext to the dispenser cap indicates whenthe rinse aid reservoir needs to be refilled.When the level of rinse aid is below the

indicator marks and the window is nearlyclear, it is time to refill the dispenser.Check the dispenser monthly.

To add rinse aid to the dispenser, turn thecap counterclockwise to open. Removethe cap and pour liquid rinse aid into theopening. The amount of rinse aid dispensedduring the cycle is adjustable by moving thelever inside the reservoir area. For mostwater conditions use manufacturers rec-ommended setting of “3”. Adjust it up to

the “MAX” setting for hard water. Set thelever anywhere between these amounts asneeded to get the best results. Replace thecap and turn it clockwise to close.

DISHWASHING ESSENTIALS

*Your local water utility or state university exten-sion service can tell you the degree of waterhardness in your area.

** Add recommended amount of detergent toeither side of the Main Wash compartment.


INDICATOR LIGHTSThe CLEAN light illuminates at the endof the cycle and remains lit until the doorhas been open for 30 seconds continu-ously.

The DRYING (select models) light illumi-nates during the entire dry period and goesout when the cycle is completed.

The WASHING (select models) light illu-minates during all rinse and wash portionsof the cycle.

The HEATING DELAY (select models)light illuminates when the cycle is beingextended to heat the water.

The CLEAN and SANITIZED (selectmodels) indicator lights will not reillumi-nate after a power failure until after thenext cycle is run.

The SANITIZED (select models) light illu-minates at the end of the cycle when condi-tions have been met to achieve sanitization.The light will remain lit until the door hasbeen open for 30 seconds continuously.

CYCLES AND WATERUSAGENORMAL WASH

Medium cycle for average food soils. Thesoil sensor is active with this cycle.Depending on the number of fills, waterusage ranges from 3 to 6 gallons.

HEAVY WASH

Long cycle for heavy food soils. 8 gallons.

LIGHT WASH

Short cycle for light food soils. Waterusage is 5 gallons.

AUTO CLEAN (select models)

Normal dishloads vary from day to day.Auto Clean is designed to select thenumber of water fills best suited for thesoil level of each load. Depending on thenumber of fills required, water usageranges from 3 to 8 gallons.

RINSE ONLY

Rinses dishes being held until there is a fullload. Controls odors. 2 gallons.

OPTIONSTOUGH SCRUB™ OR TOUGHSCRUB™ PLUS (select models)

Select this option (select models) whenwashing loads with hard-to-remove foodsoils. Tough Scrub™ or Tough Scrub Plus™

can be selected with any cycle (exceptRinse Only). Depending which cycle isbeing used, this option adds fills, heat and/orwash time to the wash cycle.

For baked-on, dried-on soils, select HeavyWash along with Tough Scrub™ or ToughScrub Plus™ option.

SANITIZE

Select Sanitize with Auto Clean (selectmodels), Heavy, Normal, or LightWash to sanitize dishware. At the end of

the cycle, when the cycle monitor recog-nizes that the proper conditions have beenmet, the SANITIZED light illuminates.

Sanitization may not be achieved if there isan interruption of the cycle, power failureor if the incoming water temperature isbelow 120° F (49° C).

EXTRA RINSE (select models)

Select Extra Rinse to add an additionalrinse to the cycle. An extra rinse helps toimprove results in hard water situations.

HEATED DRY

Select Heated Dry to turn on the heatingelement during dry for enhanced dryingresults. When Heated Dry is not select-ed, towel drying of some items such asplastic and teflon may be necessary and

more moisture may be noticed adhering tothe dishwasher interior. With either dryoption, it is normal to notice vapor escap-ing from the door vent.

START/CANCEL

To start a cycle, close the door and pressthe START/Cancel pad once. To cancelwhen a cycle is running, press theSTART/Cancel pad once. The dishwash-er will drain, then shut off. To turn the dish-washer off without draining, press theSTART/Cancel pad twice.

The dishwasher remembers your last cycleso you do not have to reset the cycle eachtime. To start the dishwasher using thesame cycle and options selected on theprevious wash, just press the START/Cancel pad.

Note:• When Sanitize is selected, cycles

are monitored to assure sanitiza-tion. Unusually low water temper-ature will prevent sanitization frombeing satisfied and the SANI-TIZED light will not illuminate atthe end of the cycle.

• Only these certified cycles havebeen designed to meet NSFrequirements: Auto Clean Cycle,Heavy Cycle, Normal Cycle andLight Cycle.


CONTROLS AT A GLANCE CONT.

DELAYThe Delay option can be used to auto-matically start the cycle at a later time toreduce daytime heat buildup in the homeor to take advantage of reduced energycosts if available in your area.

TO SET UP A DELAY:

1. Close the door. Select the appropriatecycle and options for the load.

2. Press the Delay pad until the desiredamount of delay time is selected.

3. The Delay indicator will flash until theSTART/Cancel pad is pressed.

4. As soon as the START/Cancel pad ispressed, the flashing will stop and thedelay time will begin counting down.The Delay indicator will remain lituntil the delay time has counted down.

5. The cycle will automatically start assoon as the delay time expires.

TO CANCEL A DELAY:

When the delay is counting down, pressthe Delay pad again.The indicator light willgo out and the cycle will start or resumeimmediately.

TO CANCEL A DELAY ANDCYCLE:

• Press START/Cancel once to drain andturn off the dishwasher.

Or

• Press START/Cancel twice to turndishwasher off without draining.

CONTROL LOCK OPTION(select models)

The control touchpads can be locked toprevent unwanted use. If this feature isactivated between cycles, the dishwashercannot be operated until the controls areunlocked. If desired, the controls can belocked after a cycle or delay has started.

SETTING THE CONTROL LOCK:

1. Press the Heated Dry pad for threeseconds.

2. An indicator light next to the lockgraphic will illuminate when the con-trols are locked.

TO CANCEL:


2. The indicator light will go off.

STARTING THEDISHWASHER1. After loading the dishwasher and adding

detergent, close the dishwasher bypressing the door until the latch clicks.

2. To start the dishwasher, select thedesired cycle and options. The indica-tor lights for the selected cycle andoptions will illuminate.

3. Press the START/Cancel pad.After apause, the fill will begin. The displaycountdown will flash until START/Cancel is pressed.

4. To cancel an option, press the padagain. To cancel a running cycle, pressthe START/Cancel pad.

5. To prevent unplanned cycle or option

changes, these selections are “lockedin” after 1 minute.

ADDING AFORGOTTEN ITEMFor best cleaning, the forgotten itemshould be added early in the cycle.

1. Grasp door handle and unlatch doorwithout opening completely. All lights

will flash to indicate that the cycle issuspended.

2. Wait for the water circulation to stop.

3. Open the door and add the item.

4. Close and latch the door. Lights willstop flashing when the door is proper-ly shut.

5. After a slight delay, the cycle resumesautomatically at the point of interruption.

Note:• If 30 seconds elapse between setting

the cycle and options and pressingthe START/Cancel pad, the dish-washer will turn off.

Note:• If a cycle or option pad is pressed after

the controls have been locked, theindicator light next to the lock graph-ic will flash five times. On selectedmodels with a countdown display, thedisplay will flash an “L” simultaneouslywith the lock indicator.

• This option does not lock the door,only the dishwasher controls.

OPERATING TIPS

Note:• If a cycle pad is pressed after the con-

trols have been “locked in”, the lightabove the current cycle will flashthree times.

• If START/Cancel is not pressedwithin 30 seconds, the dishwasherwill turn off.

Note:• If the door is opened during a run-

ning cycle, there may be up to a 30second delay before the unit restartsafter closing the door.

• Extended interruption of the washcycle is not recommended.

INTERIORThe dishwasher interior is normally self-cleaning.Periodically check the bottom of the dishwashertub to see if any large particles have not gonethrough the strainer portion of the module.Wipe the edge of the inner door liner toremove any food soil splashes which occurredduring loading.The color from some tomato-based food soilsmay occasionally adhere to various componentsof the dishwasher interior, causing temporarydiscoloration. To minimize this:• Remove excess tomato-based food soils off of

dishes, prior to loading.

• Run the Heavy Wash cycle when washingloads containing tomato-based food soils.

• Change dishwasher detergent and be sure touse a dishwasher detergent that containschlorine to better fight staining.

Most tableware, cookware and flatware can safely be washed in your dishwasher. Check with the manufacturer.

EXTERIORThe front of the dishwasher can be cleanedwith a soft damp cloth and liquid spray cleaner.Do not use abrasive powders or cleaning pads.Stainless Steel Care and Cleaning(select models)Do not use a cleaning product containing chlo-rine bleach. Always wipe with the grain of thestainless steel. Detergent Cup Is Not Empty:• Check that the cycle is completed.• Be sure dispenser is not blocked.• Use fresh detergent stored in a cool, dry place.

Dishwasher Seems Noisy:• A water valve hiss during fill is normal.• Water circulation sounds are normal.• A thumping sound may be a wash arm bumping an item that is extending beyond the racks.• Chopping or grinding sounds may be heard during drain as the internal food disposer chops hard items like fruit seeds, nuts, etc.• Humming during the drain is normal.• A snap noise is the detergent cup lid hitting the door liner when the dishwasher door is opened at the end of the cycle.This is normal.• Proper installation affects the noise level.

Cycle Takes Too Long (Heating Delay Light Stays On):• Tough Scrub™ or Tough Scrub Plus™ (select models) or Sanitize has been selected and the cycle is extended to heat water.• Check to see that the incoming water temperature is 120-140° F (49-60° C).

Dishwasher has an Odor:• Run dishes being held in the dishwasher through a Rinse Only cycle.• Many dishwashers have a “new” smell when first installed.This will dissipate with use.• Dishwasher may not be draining properly. (See “Dishwasher Will Not Drain” section.)• For a strong odor, place baking soda in both sides of the detergent cup. Select Light Wash and allow the water to circulate for about 10 min-

utes. Interrupt the cycle by unlatching the door and let it stand overnight. Restart the dishwasher by latching the door and allow it to completethe cycle. Another alternative is to use dishwasher cleaning product such as Jet-Dry Dishwasher Cleaner*.

Dishwasher Leaks:• Check that the dishwasher is level. (Refer to the Installation Instructions.)• Suds can cause the dishwasher to overflow. Measure the detergent carefully and use only detergents designed for use in a dishwasher. Less deter-

gent is needed in soft water.Try another brand if sudsing continues.• Follow directions closely on how to add a forgotten item (pg. 7).• To avoid rinse aid lid leaking from the dispenser, be sure the lid is securely attached.

Display Time Suddenly Drops or Increases by Several Minutes (select models):• This is normal when the Auto Clean or Normal cycle (select models) is selected and the dishwasher decides to skip or add a drain and refill.

Dishwasher Door Will Not Close:• Be sure upper rack is properly adjusted to upper or lower position (select models) (pg. 3).

Indicator Lights Flashing:• The countdown display (select models) flashes after a cycle is selected until the START/Cancel pad is pressed.• The countdown display (select models) and the delay indicator flash after a delay is selected until the START/Cancel pad is pressed.• All active display indicators flash if the door is opened during a running cycle or delay.• The currently selected cycle flashes if the consumer attempts to change the cycle after cycle “lock-in”.• The lock indicator flashes and the countdown display (selected models) flashes an “L” if a pad is pressed while the control lock is enabled.

Glasses Are Cloudy/Spotted:• Select Extra Rinse (select models).• Check water temperature. Incoming water should be 120°-140° F (49-60° C).• Always use a rinse aid.• Confirm that the cloudiness is removable by soaking the item in white vinegar for approximately 5 minutes. If removed, the problem is due to hard

water. Adjust detergent amount being used to match water hardness (pg. 5). Be sure detergent is fresh, stored properly and is a high quality brand.• If cloudiness is not removable, it is etching. This is an erosion of the surface of the glassware and can be caused by water that is too hot, from

using too much detergent or by prewashing. Detergent needs food soil to act upon. If etching has occurred, the glassware is permanently dam-aged. To prevent further etching, adjust the detergent amount to match the water hardness, stop prewashing, and be sure incoming water tem-perature is not greater than 140° F (60° C). Use water heating options only when incoming water temperature is below 120° F (49° C).

Food Soil Remains on Dishes:• Check water temperature (pg 5).• Run hot water at the sink before starting the dishwasher.• Select Tough Scrub™ or Tough Scrub Plus™ (select models).• Check water hardness and adjust detergent amount accordingly (pg. 5).• Use fresh detergent stored in a cool dry place.• Select proper cycle for the soil level.• Make sure the upper rack wash arm connector is correctly aligned in one of the water inlet holes (pg. 3).• Load items so they do not block the wash arms (pg. 2-4).• Load the utensil basket with knife handles up and spoon and fork handles down through the slots in the covers.• Do not place glasses over tines.• Prior to loading, scrape off burnt on foods and wipe the starchy film from utensils used with pasta, rice and oatmeal. These soils require more

energy than the rest of the load to clean.

Items Washed In The Dishwasher Or The Dishwasher Tub Itself Are Stained/Discolored:• Aluminum utensils or pans can leave marks when they rub against other items. Leave a slight space between items.• Iron deposits in the water can leave a yellow, brown or orange film on dishes or the dishwasher tub. A filter may be needed, check with a water

treatment company.• Separate silver or silver-plated silverware from stainless steel. These metals can be damaged by contact with each other during washing.• Color from tomato sauces may adhere to the tub (pg. 8). If light staining has occurred, leave the door open to oxidize the stain away. For removal

of heavier stains, try Cascade Plastic Booster Plastic Cleaning Additive*. Change dishwasher detergent and be sure to use a dishwasher deter-gent that contains chlorine to better fight staining.

Items Not Properly Dried/Moisture Is Present On The Dishwasher Interior After The Dry Cycle:• Be sure Heated Dry is selected.• Water droplets may form on the inner door as part of the drying process.• Use a rinse aid like Jet Dry* or Cascade Rinse Aid*. Turn adjustable rinse aid cap to the MAX setting.• Check water temperature (pg. 5).• Select Sanitize.• Increase detergent amount to match water hardness (pg. 5).• Load properly (pg. 2-4)• Plastic and teflon items are difficult to dry because they have a porous surface which tends to collect water droplets.Towel drying may be necessary.• Glasses and cups with concave bottoms hold water and require towel drying. Locate these items on the more slanted side of the rack for

improved results.

washed, sharp or pointed items should be located withthe handles up. Also, load sharp items so they are notlikely to damage the door seal.

8. Do not touch the heating element on the bottom of thetub during or at the completion of a cycle. It will be hot.

9. Use only detergents and rinse additives designed for aresidential automatic dishwasher. Never use soap,laundry detergent, or hand washing detergent in yourdishwasher. Keep these products out of reach ofchildren.

10. Do not sit, stand on or abuse the door or dish racks ofthe dishwasher.

11. Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may beproduced in a hot water system that has not been usedfor two weeks or more. Hydrogen gas is explosive. Ifthe hot water system has not been used for such aperiod, turn on all hot water faucets and let the waterflow from each for several minutes. This will release anyaccumulated hydrogen gas. As the gas is flammable, donot smoke or use an open flame during this process.

12. Do not wash plastic items unless marked “dishwashersafe” or the equivalent. For plastic items not so marked,check the manufacturer’s recommendations.

13. Do not tamper with controls.14. To prevent accidental child entrapment and suffocation

risks, always remove the door to the washingcompartment when removing an old dishwasher fromservice or discarding it.

15. Use caution when unloading the dishwasher. Dishes willbe hot if unloaded shortly after a cycle has completed.

➢ Don’t prerinse. Simply scrape off anybones or large food particles.

➢ If connected to a food waste disposer,make certain the disposer is emptybefore starting the dishwasher.

Upper rack

Glasses, cups, stemware, light-weightplastics, plates, bowls, pans, long-handledutensils etc. can be loaded in this rack. Donot load glasses over the tines.

The Stack-Rack (select models) on the rightside of the upper rack folds up or down forloading flexibility. Fold it down to hold long-

handled knives, spatulas and spoons or shortitems like cups or juice glasses. Fold it up fortaller items like glasses, bowls, plates, etc.

The Stack-Rack is designed to holdstemware in place. Taller stemware will fitbetter on the right side as the upper rack isdeeper on this side.


The cup clips (select models) located inthe center of the upper rack can be used to

hold light weight plastic items, cookingutensils, knives, etc. in place. Clip the itembetween the tine and the clip.

The Vari-Lock ™ Snugge r (select models)on the left secures lightweight items inplace. It can be adjusted by grasping thewavy wire and rotating it left to snug itemsagainst the outer rack or to the right to reston top of light items. Do not load items ontop of the wire.

For best results with tall glasses, align theVari-Lock ™ Snugger (select models) wavywire with the arrow on the rack clip. Rest thebottom of the glass against the wavy wire.

With the Stack-Rack (select models) shelfraised, thin items like cookie sheets orpizza pans may be placed along the leftside. With the shelf down, two levels ofglasses and cups can be loaded.

Positioning the Fold-Away ™ Tines (selectmodels) flat in the back, left cornerprovides convenient loading space forlarge, bulky items like pots and pans ormixing bowls.

Convertible Tines (select models) in theback, right corner can be adjusted toprovide narrow spacing for loading platesor wide spacing for loading deep bowls,pots or pans. Flip tines up for narrowspacing or down for wider spacing.

Lower rackA variety of large items such as dinnerplates, mixing bowls, pots and pans andbaking dishes can be loaded in this rack.

Removing the upper rack

The upper rack can be removed when tallor oversized items need to be loaded intothe lower rack. Unload the rack prior toremoving.

TO REMOVE:

➢ Roll the upper rack 1/3 to 1/2 of theway out.

➢ Remove the plastic rack stop from theend of each track. To remove eachplastic rack stop, push inward(towards the rack) on the ridged area

of the rack stop. The rack stop willsnap open and can be easily removedby pulling straight out. Take care tosupport the track while removing rackstops.

➢ Roll the rack all the way out of thetrack and remove from thedishwasher.

➢ Reverse the above procedure toreplace the upper rack into thedishwasher.

REMOVABLE UTENSILBASKET (Design varies by model)

For best cleaning results, prevent itemsfrom nesting together by placing someitems in the basket with handles up andsome with handles down. Load knives,handles up and spoons and forks handlesdown, through the slots in the hingedcovered section(s) (when closed).

Be sure that thin, finely pointed items donot extend through the basket.

This could block the lowerwash arm.

Small, lightweight itemslike baby spoons and

plastic measuring spoonsshould be placed in the

section(s) with the hingedcover(s).

ODDS & ENDS BASKET(Select models)

Use this supplemental basket in the upper

rack for loading miscellaneous items andutensils. This is also a safe

place to load sharpknives and

SPLIT & FIT UTENSILBASKET (Select models)

The split silverware basket can beseparated and placed in several locations inthe bottom rack. Hold the basket firmlyalong the sides. Follow the unlock directionarrows imprinted on the basket and slidethe basket apart until it splits into two. Load

flatware and utensils intoboth sections or just one,

depending upon yourload.

Hot water

For optimal cleaning and dryingresults, hot water is necessary. Theincoming water temperature should be120–140° F (49-60° C) to properlyactivate the detergent and melt greasyfood soils.

To check the incoming water temperature,turn on the hot water faucet nearest thedishwasher and let it run into a glass in thesink. Place a candy thermometer in theglass and check the temperature once ithas stopped rising. If the temperature isbelow 120° F (49° C), have a qualifiedperson raise the water heater thermostatsetting.

Before starting the dishwasher, turn on thehot water faucet and let it run until thewater is hot. This assures that the initial fillof water is hot.

Detergent

Use a detergent designed specifically foruse in an automatic dishwasher. Be sure itis fresh and stored in a cool, dry place (notunder the sink).

RECOMMENDED AMOUNTToo little detergent results in poor cleaning,hard water filming/spotting and poordrying. Too much detergent can causepermanent etching/cloudiness.

Rinse aid

Regular use of a rinse aid improvesdrying, reduces spotting and filming,and reduces moisture left on thedishwasher interior.

An automatic rinse aid dispenser islocated next to the detergent cup. Thewindow next to the dispenser capindicates when the rinse aid reservoirneeds to be refilled. When the level of

rinse aid is below the indicator marks andthe window is nearly clear, it is time to refillthe dispenser. Check the dispensermonthly.

To add rinse aid to the dispenser, turn thecap counterclockwise to open. Removethe cap and pour liquid rinse aid into theopening. The amount of rinse aiddispensed during the cycle is adjustable bymoving the lever inside the reservoir area.For most water conditions usemanufacturers recommended setting of

“3”. Adjust it up to the “MAX” setting forhard water. Set the lever anywherebetween these amounts as needed to getthe best results. Replace the cap and turnit clockwise to close.

START/CANCELTo start a cycle, close the door and press theSTART/Cancel pad once. To cancel when acycle is running, press the START/Cancelpad once. The dishwasher will drain, thenshut off. To turn the dishwasher off withoutdraining, press the START/Cancel pad twice.

The dishwasher remembers your last cycleso you do not have to reset the cycle eachtime. To start the dishwasher using the samecycle and options selected on the previouswash, just press the START/Cancel pad.

Delay

The Delay option can be used toautomatically start the cycle at a later timeto reduce daytime heat buildup in thehome or to take advantage of reducedenergy costs if available in your area.

TO SET UP A DELAY:

1. Close the door. Select the appropriatecycle and options for the load.


3. The Delay indicator and the count downdisplay (select models) will flash untilthe START/Cancel pad is pressed.

4. As soon as the START/Cancel pad ispressed, the flashing will stop and thedelay time will begin counting down.The delay indicator will remain lit untilthe delay time has counted down.


TO CANCEL A DELAY:

When the delay is counting down, pressthe Delay pad again. The indicator lightwill go out and the cycle will start orresume immediately.

Operating tips

Starting the dishwasher

1. After loading the dishwasher and addingdetergent, close the dishwasher bypressing the door until the latch clicks.

2. To start the dishwasher, select thedesired cycle and options. Theindicator lights for the selected cycleand options will illuminate.

3. Press the START/Cancel pad. After apause, the fill will begin. The displaycountdown will flash until START/Cancel is pressed.

4. To cancel an option, press the padagain. To cancel a running cycle,press the START/Cancel pad.

5. To prevent unplanned cycle or optionchanges, these selections are “lockedin” after 1 minute.

Adding a forgotten item

For best cleaning, the forgotten itemshould be added early in the cycle.

1. Grasp door handle and unlatch doorwithout opening completely. All lightswill flash to indicate that the cycle issuspended.

2. Wait for the water circulation to stop.3. Open the door and add the item.4. Close and latch the door. Lights will stop

flashing when the door is properly shut.5. After a slight delay, the cycle resumes

automatically at the point of interruption.

NOTE

❚ If the door is opened during arunning cycle, there may be up toa 30 second delay before the unitrestarts after closing the door.

❚ Extended interruption of the washcycle is not recommended.

Interior

The dishwasher interior is normally self-cleaning. Periodically check the bottom ofthe dishwasher tub to see if any largeparticles have not gone through the strainerportion of the module.Wipe the edge of the inner door liner toremove any food soil splashes whichoccurred during loading.The color from some tomato-based foodsoils may occasionally adhere to variouscomponents of the dishwasher interior,causing temporary discoloration. Tominimize this: ➢ Remove excess tomato-based food

soils off of dishes, prior to loading.

➢ Run the Heavy Wash cycle whenwashing loads containing tomato-basedfood soils.

➢ Change dishwasher detergent and besure to use a dishwasher detergent thatcontains chlorine to better fight staining.


Exterior

The front of the dishwasher can be cleanedwith a soft damp cloth and liquid spraycleaner. Do not use abrasive powders orcleaning pads.Stainless Steel Care and Cleaning (selectmodels)Do not use a cleaning product containingchlorine bleach. Always wipe with thegrain of the stainless steel. For dailycleaning and light soil , use a soft cloth orsponge and one of the following: milddetergent and water, a solution of whitevinegar and water, Formula 409 Glass andSurface Cleaner* or a similar multi-surfacecleaner. Rinse and dry. To polish and tohelp prevent fingerprints, follow withStainless Steel Magic Spray* (part No.20000008)**.

For moderate to heavy soil , clean withBon Ami*, using a soft cloth or dampsponge. Rinse and dry. To restore lusterand to remove streaks, follow with StainlessSteel Magic Spray*.

For discoloration , wipe with CameoStainless Steel Cleaner*, using a dampsponge or soft cloth. Rinse immediately anddry. To restore luster and to remove streaks,follow with Stainless Steel Magic Spray*.

Storage/moving

Fill detergent cup with a fresh-scenteddishwasher detergent or baking soda andselect the Normal Wash cycle. Allow thedishwasher to complete the cycle. Then turnthe water supply off and drain thedishwasher. To drain, press theSTART/Cancel pad once. Operate the draintwice to ensure most of the water isremoved. Last, disconnect the electricalsupply and prop open the door.

When turning the water supply to the homeoff, the water shut off at the dishwasher mustbe turned off also.

Before you call





Dishwasher Seems Noisy:• A water valve hiss during fill is normal.• Water circulation sounds are normal.• A thumping sound may be a wash arm bumping an item that is extending beyond the racks.• Chopping or grinding sounds may be heard as the internal food disposer chops hard items like fruit seeds, nuts, etc.• Humming during the drain is normal.• A snap noise is the detergent cup lid hitting the door liner when the dishwasher door is opened at the end of the cycle. This is normal.• Proper installation affects the noise level.

Cycle Takes Too Long (Heating Delay Light Stays On [select models]):• Tough Scrub™ or Tough Scrub™ Plus (select models) or Sanitize has been selected and the cycle is extended to heat water.• Check to see that the incoming water temperature is 120-140° F (49-60° C).

Dishwasher has an Odor:• Run dishes being held in the dishwasher through a Rinse Only cycle.• Many dishwashers have a “new” smell when first installed. This will dissipate with use.• Dishwasher may not be draining properly. (See “Dishwasher Will Not Drain” section.) • For a strong odor, place baking soda in both sides of the detergent cup. Select Light Wash and allow the water to circulate for about 10

minutes. Interrupt the cycle by unlatching the door and let it stand overnight. Restart the dishwasher by latching the door and allow it tocomplete the cycle. Another alternative is to use a dishwasher cleaning product such as Jet-Dry Dishwasher Cleaner*.

Dishwasher Leaks:• Check that the dishwasher is level. (Refer to the Installation Instructions.)• Suds can cause the dishwasher to overflow. Measure the detergent carefully and use only detergents designed for use in a dishwasher. Less

detergent is needed in soft water. Try another brand if sudsing continues. • Follow directions closely on how to add a forgotten item (pg. 7).• To avoid rinse aid leaking from the dispenser, be sure the lid is securely attached.

Display Time Suddenly Drops or Increases by Several Minutes (select models):

• This is normal when the Auto Clean or Normal cycle (select models) is selected and the dishwasher decides to skip or add a drain and refill.

Glasses Are Cloudy/Spotted:• Select Extra Rinse (select models).• Check water temperature. Incoming water should be 120° -140° F (49-60° C).• Always use a rinse aid.• Confirm that the cloudiness is removable by soaking the item in white vinegar for approximately 5 minutes. If removed, the problem is due

to hard water. Adjust detergent amount being used to match water hardness (pg. 5). Be sure detergent is fresh, stored properly and is ahigh quality brand.

• If cloudiness is not removable, it is etching . This is an erosion of the surface of the glassware and can be caused by water that is too hot,from using too much detergent or by prewashing. Detergent needs food soil to act upon. If etching has occurred, the glassware ispermanently damaged. To prevent further etching, adjust the detergent amount to match the water hardness, stop prewashing, and be sureincoming water temperature is not greater than 140° F (60° C). Use water heating options only when incoming water temperature is below120° F (49° C).

Food Soil Remains on Dishes:• Check water temperature (pg 5). • Run hot water at the sink before starting the dishwasher.• Select Tough Scrub™ or Tough Scrub™ Plus (select models).• Check water hardness and adjust detergent amount accordingly (pg. 5).• Use fresh detergent stored in a cool dry place.• Select proper cycle for the soil level.• Make sure the upper rack wash arm connector is correctly aligned in one of the water inlet holes (pg. 3).• Load items so they do not block the wash arms (pg. 2-4).• Load the utensil basket with knife handles up and spoon and fork handles down through the slots in the covers.• Do not place glasses over tines.• Prior to loading, scrape off burnt on foods and wipe the starchy film from utensils used with pasta, rice and oatmeal. These soils require

more energy than the rest of the load to clean.

Items Washed In The Dishwasher Or The Dishwasher Tub Itself Are Stained/Discolored:• Aluminum utensils or pans can leave marks when they rub against other items. Leave a slight space between items.• Iron deposits in the water can leave a yellow, brown or orange film on dishes or the dishwasher tub. A filter may be needed, check with a

water treatment company. • Separate silver or silver-plated silverware from stainless steel. These metals can be damaged by contact with each other during washing.• Color from tomato sauces may adhere to the tub (pg. 8). If light staining has occurred, leave the door open to oxidize the stain away. For

removal of heavier stains, try Cascade Plastic Booster Plastic Cleaning Additive*. Change dishwasher detergent and be sure to use adishwasher detergent that contains chlorine to better fight staining.

Items Not Properly Dried/Moisture Is Present On The Dishwasher Interior After The Dry Cycle:• Be sure Heated Dry is selected.• Water droplets may form on the inner door as part of the drying process.• Use a rinse aid like Jet Dry* or Cascade Rinse Aid* regularly, to improve drying. Turn the rinse aid selector towards the MAX setting.• Check water temperature (pg. 5). • Select Sanitize.• Increase detergent amount to match water hardness (pg. 5).• Load properly (pg. 2-4).• Plastic and teflon items are difficult to dry because they have a porous surface which tends to collect water droplets. Towel drying may be

necessary.• Glasses and cups with concave bottoms hold water and require towel drying. Locate these items on the more slanted side of the rack for

improved results.

Dishware is Chipped :• Load dishes according to instructions so they do not strike each other (pg. 2-4).• Washing fine antique china/crystal in the dishwasher is not recommended.• Do not load glasses over the tines.• Do not overload.

7. To reduce the risk of injury when loading items to bewashed, sharp or pointed items should be located withthe handles up. Also, load sharp items so they are notlikely to damage the door seal.

8. Do not touch the heating element on the bottom of thetub during or at the completion of a cycle. It will be hot.

9. Use only detergents and rinse additives designed for aresidential automatic dishwasher. Never use soap,laundry detergent, or hand washing detergent in yourdishwasher. Keep these products out of reach ofchildren.

10. Do not sit, stand on or abuse the door or dish racks ofthe dishwasher.

11. Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may beproduced in a hot water system that has not been usedfor two weeks or more. Hydrogen gas is explosive. Ifthe hot water system has not been used for such aperiod, turn on all hot water faucets and let the waterflow from each for several minutes. This will release anyaccumulated hydrogen gas. As the gas is flammable, donot smoke or use an open flame during this process.

12. Do not wash plastic items unless marked “dishwashersafe” or the equivalent. For plastic items not so marked,check the manufacturer’s recommendations.

13. Do not tamper with controls.14. To prevent accidental child entrapment and suffocation

risks, always remove the door to the washingcompartment when removing an old dishwasher fromservice or discarding it.

15. Use caution when unloading the dishwasher. Dishes willbe hot if unloaded shortly after a cycle has completed.


Check with the installer to make sure the appliancehas been properly grounded to avoid possibleelectrical shock. Be sure you read the ImportantPersonal Safety Instructions before you use thisdishwasher.

Before you start

➢ Don’t prerinse. Simply scrape off anybones or large food particles.

➢ If connected to a food waste disposer,make certain the disposer is emptybefore starting the dishwasher.

Upper rack

Glasses, cups, stemware, light-weightplastics, plates, bowls, pans, long-handledutensils etc. can be loaded in this rack. Donot load glasses over the tines.

The Stack-Rack (select models) on the rightside of the upper rack folds up or down forloading flexibility. Fold it down to hold long-handled knives, spatulas and spoons or shortitems like cups or juice glasses. Fold it up fortaller items like glasses, bowls, plates, etc.

The Stack-Rack (select models) isdesigned to hold stemware in place. Tallerstemware will fit better on the right side asthe upper rack is deeper on this side.


The cup clips (select models) located inthe center of the upper rack can be used tohold light weight plastic items, cookingutensils, knives, etc. in place. Clip the itembetween the tine and the clip.

The Vari-Lock ™ Snugge r (select models)on the left secures lightweight items inplace. It can be adjusted by grasping thewavy wire and rotating it left to snug itemsagainst the outer rack or to the right to reston top of light items. Do not load items ontop of the wire.

For best results with tall glasses, align theVari-Lock ™ Snugger (select models) wavywire with the arrow on the rack clip. Rest thebottom of the glass against the wavy wire.

To lower the rack:

➢ Pull the rack fully out.➢ Place hands on each adjuster.➢ Press down on the top blue button and

push down (the button will slidetowards the center of the rack).

➢ The rack will come to a stop when it isin position.

To raise the rack:

Removing the upper and

middle racks

The racks can be removed when tall oroversized items need to be loaded into themiddle or lower rack. Unload the rack priorto removing.

TO REMOVE:

➢ Roll the rack 1/3 to 1/2 of the way out.

➢ Remove the plastic rack stop from theend of each track. To remove eachplastic rack stop, push inward

(towards the rack) on the ridged areaof the rack stop. The rack stop willsnap open and can be easily removedby pulling straight out. Take care tosupport the track while removing rackstops.

➢ Roll the rack all the way out of the trackand remove from the dishwasher.

➢ Reverse the above procedure toreplace the rack into the dishwasher.

Hot water

For optimal cleaning and dryingresults, hot water is necessary. Theincoming water temperature should be120–140° F (49-60° C) to properlyactivate the detergent and melt greasyfood soils.

To check the incoming water temperature,turn on the hot water faucet nearest thedishwasher and let it run into a glass in thesink. Place a candy thermometer in theglass and check the temperature once ithas stopped rising. If the temperature isbelow 120° F (49° C), have a qualifiedperson raise the water heater thermostatsetting.

Before starting the dishwasher, turn on thehot water faucet and let it run until thewater is hot. This assures that the initial fillof water is hot.

Detergent

Use a detergent designed specifically foruse in an automatic dishwasher. Be sure itis fresh and stored in a cool, dry place (notunder the sink).

RECOMMENDED AMOUNTToo little detergent results in poor cleaning,hard water filming/spotting and poordrying. Too much detergent can causepermanent etching/cloudiness.

The amount of detergent to use isdetermined by the hardness of the waterand soil level of the load. Refer to thefollowing chart for detergent usagerecommendations.

Do not use detergent with the Rinse Onlycycle. Leave the detergent lid open whenrunning Rinse Only .

In extremely hard water conditions (13grains per gallon or more*), it is difficult toachieve good results with any dishwasher.A mechanical water softener may be

necessary to improve water quality,detergent effectiveness, and protect thedishwasher parts from the damage thathard water can cause.

Dishwashing essentials

Rinse aid

Regular use of a rinse aid improvesdrying, reduces spotting and filming,and reduces moisture left on thedishwasher interior.

An automatic rinse aid dispenser islocated next to the detergent cup. Thewindow next to the dispenser capindicates when the rinse aid reservoirneeds to be refilled. When the level of

rinse aid is below the indicator marks andthe window is nearly clear, it is time to refillthe dispenser. Check the dispensermonthly.

To add rinse aid to the dispenser, turn thecap counterclockwise to open. Removethe cap and pour liquid rinse aid into theopening. The amount of rinse aiddispensed during the cycle is adjustable bymoving the lever inside the reservoir area.For most water conditions usemanufacturer recommended setting of “2”.

Adjust it up to the “MAX” setting for hardwater. Set the lever anywhere betweenthese amounts as needed to get the bestresults. Replace the cap and turn itclockwise to close.

TO SET UP A DELAY:

3. The Delay indicator and the count downdisplay (select models) will flash untilthe START/Cancel pad is pressed.

Operating Tips

Starting the dishwasher

1. After loading the dishwasher and addingdetergent, select the desired cycle andoptions by pressing the pads. Theindicator lights for the selected cycleand options will illuminate. To cancelan option press the pad again.

2. Close the door until it latches thenpress the START/Cancel pad. After apause, the fill will begin. The displaycountdown (select models) will flashuntil START/Cancel is pressed.

3. To cancel a running cycle, press theSTART/Cancel pad.

4. To prevent unplanned cycle or optionchanges, these selections are “lockedin” after 1 minute.

Adding a forgotten item

For best cleaning, the forgotten itemshould be added early in the cycle.

1. Grasp door handle and unlatch doorwithout opening completely. All lightswill flash to indicate that the cycle issuspended.

2. Wait for the water circulation to stop.3. Open the door and add the item.4. Close and latch the door. Lights will stop

flashing when the door is properly shut.5. After a slight delay, the cycle resumes

automatically at the point of interruption.

NOTE

❚ If the door is opened during arunning cycle, there may be up toa 30 second delay before the unitrestarts after closing the door.

❚ Extended interruption of the washcycle is not recommended.

Interior

The dishwasher interior is normally self-cleaning.Periodically check the bottom of the dishwashertub to see if any large particles have not gonethrough the strainer portion of the module.

Wipe the edge of the inner door liner to removeany food soil splashes which occurred duringloading.

The color from some tomato-based food soilsmay occasionally adhere to various componentsof the dishwasher interior, causing temporarydiscoloration. To minimize this:

➢ Remove excess tomato-based food soils offof dishes, prior to loading.

➢ Run the Heavy Wash cycle when washingloads containing tomato-based food soils.

➢ Change dishwasher detergent and besure to use a dishwasher detergent thatcontains chlorine to better fight staining.


Exterior

The front of the dishwasher can be cleanedwith a soft damp cloth and liquid spray cleaner.Do not use abrasive powders or cleaning pads.

Stainless Steel Care and Cleaning (selectmodels)

Do not use a cleaning product containingchlorine bleach. Always wipe with the grainof the stainless steel. For daily cleaning andlight soil , use a soft cloth or sponge and one ofthe following: mild detergent and water, asolution of white vinegar and water, Formula409 Glass and Surface Cleaner* or a similarmulti-surface cleaner. Rinse and dry. Topolish and to help prevent fingerprints, followwith Stainless Steel Magic Spray* (part No.20000008)**.

For moderate to heavy soil , clean with BonAmi*, using a soft cloth or damp sponge. Rinseand dry. To restore luster and to remove streaks,follow with Stainless Steel Magic Spray*.

For discoloration , wipe with CameoStainless Steel Cleaner*, using a dampsponge or soft cloth. Rinse immediately anddry. To restore luster and to remove streaks,follow with Stainless Steel Magic Spray*.

Storage/moving

Fill detergent cup with a fresh-scenteddishwasher detergent or baking soda andselect the Normal Wash cycle. Allow thedishwasher to complete the cycle. Dishwasher Seems Noisy:• A water valve hiss during fill is normal.• Water circulation sounds are normal.• A thumping sound may be a wash arm bumping an item that is extending beyond the racks.• Chopping or grinding sounds may be heard as the internal food disposer chops hard items like fruit seeds, nuts, etc.• Humming during the drain is normal.• A snap noise is the detergent cup lid hitting the door liner when the dishwasher door is opened at the end of the cycle. This is normal.• Proper installation affects the noise level.

Cycle Takes Too Long (Heating Delay Light Stays On [select models]):• Tough Scrub™ or Tough Scrub™ Plus (select models) or Sanitize has been selected and the cycle is extended to heat water.• Check to see that the incoming water temperature is 120-140° F (49-60° C).

Dishwasher has an Odor:• Run dishes being held in the dishwasher through a Rinse Only cycle.• Many dishwashers have a “new” smell when first installed. This will dissipate with use.• Dishwasher may not be draining properly. (See “Dishwasher Will Not Drain” section.) • For a strong odor, place baking soda in both sides of the detergent cup. Select Light Wash and allow the water to circulate for about 10

minutes. Interrupt the cycle by unlatching the door and let it stand overnight. Restart the dishwasher by latching the door and allow it tocomplete the cycle. Another alternative is to use a dishwasher cleaning product such as Jet-Dry Dishwasher Cleaner*.

Dishwasher Leaks:• Check that the dishwasher is level. (Refer to the Installation Instructions.)• Suds can cause the dishwasher to overflow. Measure the detergent carefully and use only detergents designed for use in a dishwasher. Less

detergent is needed in soft water. Try another brand if sudsing continues. • Follow directions closely on how to add a forgotten item (pg. 7).• To avoid rinse aid leaking from the dispenser, be sure the lid is securely attached.

Display Time Suddenly Drops or Increases by Several Minutes (select models):

• This is normal when the Auto Clean or Normal cycle (select models) is selected and the dishwasher decides to skip or add a drain and refill.

Glasses Are Cloudy/Spotted:• Select Extra Rinse (select models).• Check water temperature. Incoming water should be 120° -140° F (49-60° C).• Always use a rinse aid.• Confirm that the cloudiness is removable by soaking the item in white vinegar for approximately 5 minutes. If removed, the problem is due

to hard water. Adjust detergent amount being used to match water hardness (pg. 5). Be sure detergent is fresh, stored properly and is ahigh quality brand.

• If cloudiness is not removable, it is etching . This is an erosion of the surface of the glassware and can be caused by water that is too hot,from using too much detergent or by prewashing. Detergent needs food soil to act upon. If etching has occurred, the glassware ispermanently damaged. To prevent further etching, adjust the detergent amount to match the water hardness, stop prewashing, and be sureincoming water temperature is not greater than 140° F (60° C). Use water heating options only when incoming water temperature is below120° F (49° C).

Food Soil Remains on Dishes:• Check water temperature (pg 5). • Run hot water at the sink before starting the dishwasher.• Select Tough Scrub™ or Tough Scrub™ Plus (select models).• Check water hardness and adjust detergent amount accordingly (pg. 5).• Use fresh detergent stored in a cool dry place.• Select proper cycle for the soil level.• Make sure the upper and middle rack wash arm connector is correctly aligned in one of the water inlet holes (pg. 4).• Load items so they do not block the wash arms (pg. 2-4).• Load the utensil basket with knife handles up and spoon and fork handles down through the slots in the covers.• Do not place glasses over tines.• Prior to loading, scrape off burnt on foods and wipe the starchy film from utensils used with pasta, rice and oatmeal. Items Washed In The Dishwasher Or The Dishwasher Tub Itself Are Stained/Discolored:• Aluminum utensils or pans can leave marks when they rub against other items. Leave a slight space between items.• Iron deposits in the water can leave a yellow, brown or orange film on dishes or the dishwasher tub. A filter may be needed, check with a

water treatment company. • Separate silver or silver-plated silverware from stainless steel. These metals can be damaged by contact with each other during washing.• Color from tomato sauces may adhere to the tub (pg. 8). If light staining has occurred, leave the door open to oxidize the stain away. For

removal of heavier stains, try Cascade Plastic Booster Plastic Cleaning Additive*. Change dishwasher detergent and be sure to use adishwasher detergent that contains chlorine to better fight staining.

Items Not Properly Dried/Moisture Is Present On The Dishwasher Interior After The Dry Cycle:• Be sure Heated Dry is selected.• Water droplets may form on the inner door as part of the drying process.• Use a rinse aid like Jet Dry* or Cascade Rinse Aid* regularly, to improve drying. Turn the rinse aid selector towards the MAX setting.• Check water temperature (pg. 5). • Select Sanitize.• Increase detergent amount to match water hardness (pg. 5).• Load properly. (pg. 2-4)• Plastic and teflon items are difficult to dry because they have a porous surface which tends to collect water droplets. Towel drying may be
