Invisible Borders in North AmericaThe map shows how smogspreads across eastern NorthAmerica. Smog is caused by the burning of fossil fuels in cars, trucks, power plants, and factories. The chemicals produced combine with sunlightto create smog. Smog lowers air quality. It also leads to breath-ing problems for some people. In Canada, smog season lastsfrom May to September.
