From the Principal If the first week back to school is any indication of how the rest of the school year will proceed then

DuJardin School is in for a fantastic year! The staff is to be commended for preparing so well for the

beginning of a new school year, the students are to be applauded for coming back to school with such

positive attitudes and ready to learn, and thanks to the parents for following the “No Parking” on Euclid

Ave during drop off and pick up times. With everyone’s help it has been a tremendous start to the new

school year!

MAP testing will be held during the weeks of August 30th through September 30th. Students in all grades

will be taking MAP assessments in the areas of reading and math. A parent letter regarding information

about MAP testing will be attached to the journal next week.

Please review the article from the Bloomingdale Police Department regarding several laws that are in

effect during school hours, on school property, and in a school zone. The BPD has written tickets to

violators of these laws in the past. They want the public to be aware of these laws as “ignorance is no

excuse.”

Parents please be aware that the doors to the school are locked throughout the day and evening. Access to

the building is limited. If for some reason you and your child need access to the building after hours the

custodians have been instructed to check the front doors on the hour at 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm, and 7:00 pm in

order to allow students, escorted by a parent, back into the building. Once the Park District basketball

program starts (October through March) the front doors of the school will be open from 6:00-9:00 pm but

hallway gates will be closed and locked. Custodians will be instructed to check the gates at the same times

listed above.

The Village of Bloomingdale has proclaimed September 1st as “Go Orange Day” to help raise hunger

awareness and encourage the Bloomingdale community to make a difference by donating non-perishable

Calling all room parent volunteers…please plan on joining the PTO next Thursday afternoon, September 1st in

the gym beginning at 2:00 p.m. for a “Room Parent Planning Meeting” to discuss guidelines and procedures

for classroom parties this school year. The next PTO meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13th at

7:00 p.m. in the IMC (school library). Hope to see you there.

and the

staff at the Bloomingdale Police Department. We wish to welcome all the students back to a new school

year. We are looking forward to a successful and safe experience for all. A few quick reminders and helpful

hints to all parents and citizens driving through the school areas in town.

1 - Just a reminder about the prohibited use of cell... phones while in school zones. Illinois Vehicle Code 625

ILCS 5/12-610.1(e)

"A person, regardless of age, may not use a wireless telephone at any time while operating a motor vehicle

on a roadway in a school zone."

2 - Be aware of the reduced speed in the school zones.

3 - While traveling on a divided four lane roadway (example Schick Road), a vehicle traveling in the opposite

direction of a school bus, is not required to stop when the school bus is stopped. This includes the dropping

or picking up of students. As always we expect the motoring public to drive with caution and be mindful of

children near the roadway.

4 - There is No Parking on Euclid Ave between Tee St. and Ironwood during the hours of 8:00-9:00AM and

3:00-4:00PM. This was done to help with the flow of traffic and alleviate any issues with emergency

vehicles attempting to enter or leave the school premises during student arrival and dismissal times.

Any questions or concerns, please contact the Bloomingdale Police Department at (630) 529-9868.

Thank You!

From Our School Nurse… The health and safety of all DuJardin students is a priority.

We have students with life-threatening peanut and tree nut (cashews, walnuts, pistachios, etc.)

allergies. We are not banning these types of foods from our school entirely however, there are

areas of the building that are designated as peanut and tree nut free. Please do not bring any

food containing peanuts or tree nuts into the building that will be consumed by anyone other than

your child. Please reinforce with your child the importance of not sharing or trading food at

snack time or lunch time. We greatly appreciate your assistance in keep DuJardin a safe place

for all students.

Experience the colorful magic of fall in the Young Rembrandts classroom. Kick off the season with a graphic iguana, a video game favorite Pixel Block Character and the geometrical world of architecture as we draw the Notre Dame Cathedral. Later, students will immerse themselves in the seasonal spirit as they learn still life technique of pumpkins, draw a detailed Scarecrow and draw a silly but challenging Patterned Bat. Finally, get ready for winter as we turn out a “sweet” drawing

of a ginger bread house (almost good enough to eat!). We’ll draw these (and many more exciting lessons!) while we improve creative and critical thinking skills today’s students need. So what are you waiting for? Sign up now!

Let's Build It - Chain Reaction in Action! The ball rolls down the ramp, turns the switch, that moves the post, that activates

the zip-line, that knocks the ball down the ramp and into the goal! In this STEAM program, students will be building Rube

Goldberg “Mouse Trap” chain-reaction machines featuring levers, pulleys, and other simple machines. Engineering and

physics concepts will be introduced and reinforced through hands-on, innovative lessons and creative play time. Problem

solving skills and teamwork will be put to the test as the complexity of the projects increases from week to week. On the final

class, there will be a building competition - How many contraptions can you connect in chain reaction? No previous

experience is necessary, just a desire to learn and build. Each student will receive an award on the last day of the session, and

have the opportunity to earn Energy Belts to demonstrate their learned skills!

AFTERSCHOOL SPANISH CLASSESAT DU JARDIN SCHOOL

Our goal is to introduce the Spanish Language in a recreational and simple format. Students will be given an “ear” for pronunciation and build confidence in speaking and learning about another language. Students will learn “everyday” language via repetition, games, songs and handson activities. Each class is progressive and adaptable according to the ability of the student. Students receive workbooks and Cd’s for them to keep. Teachers stay in touch via email and send out two progress reports throughout the duration of the program. Parents are invited to an “Open House” at the end of the session.
