Franciacorta: the wineThe first Italian wine to be produced exclusively by in-bottle re-fermentation, it was granted DOCG (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin) status in 1995, the sameyear in which the 'Franciacorta' production method was officially recognized, permanently shelving the 'spumante' wording.Today, the labels bear only the denomination of Franciacorta, a single word that indicates the area of origin, the production method and the wine.Strict and scrupulous regulations aimed at producing wines of impeccable quality: that is the golden rule for the Consorzio Franciacorta and its producers, who cultivate only excellent varieties of grapes, harvest them by hand and re-ferment them naturally in the bottle, followed by long maturation and aging on yeast.

The Franciacorta Wine Festival is back, for the eighth year, this time on the weekend of September 16-17 2017. Visitors will have an opportunity to get to know Franciacorta

by following the Strada del Franciacorta, with its castles and monasteries and a multitude of events organized by the wineries. A weekend with something for everyone!

Wine aficionados can participate in vertical tastings and theme-based tastings, foodies can delight in a vast array of local dishes and specialty products, street food and the creations of local chefs,

sports and nature enthusiasts can trek through the vineyards, led by agronomists, or follow the trails in the hills, either on foot or by bike. For small children and their parents,

there are organized games and picnics in the grass. Music and art lovers will be able to gratify their eyes and ears while sipping a glass of Franciacorta wine. The wineries will present an original

weekend program, filled with events you won't want to miss.
