MAY GOD REWARD YOUR GENEROSITY

FROM THE DESK OF FATHER MAC This week I must address parish finances. The period during which public Masses were suspended has had a devastating impact on our finances. The Sunday collection is our main source of income and all of a sudden, we were without that for three months! I know many of you have also been im-pacted during the pandemic with layoffs, furloughs, and pay cuts. This has affected us all in one way or another. To respond to the financial crisis caused by COVID-19, we eliminated unnecessary spending and cut costs wherever possible. We also made some hard choices in order to reduce payroll costs including reducing employee hours and salary reductions. I am deeply grateful to those who have continued to sup-port our parish so generously during this difficult time. Many of you mailed in your envelopes, dropped off your donations at the parish office, or used electronic giving. A significant number of our parishioners even increased their giving during this time. I am humbled by the spirit of sacrifice that so many of our parishioners have dis-played during this time to help keep the parish afloat. But the fact remains we are operating at a serious deficit at this time. Our weekly collection goal of $15,000 which ensures that we can pay our employees, pay our bills, support vital ministries, and build up cash reserves. During the 4th quarter (April-June) our income goal was $220,000 (including $25,000 for Easter). Our actual income for April-June was $148,343 leaving us with a 4th quarter shortfall of -$71,657. Our collections since reopening have actually been lower than when we were closed! Now that we are celebrating Masse again our expenses are rising. The cost of running lights and air-conditioning in the church Masses is dramatically increasing our utility costs. In addition, we had to pay for a deep cleaning of the church and purchase a lot of cleaning/sanitization equipment and supplies at considerable expense in order to meet the public health guidelines for reopening. All of this has put additional pressure on our already strained parish finances. This is a critical moment in the life of our parish. We all must join together to ensure our parish remains strong and healthy. I ask that all of us dig deep and give what we can to support the parish through this difficult time and if you are able, please give more to help make up our shortfall. I am confident that our community will rally to meet the challenges of this present moment so that St. Cyril’s will be able to fulfill its mission of making disciples of Christ for many years to come!

SAFEGUARDING THE CHILDREN Did you Know?

TIPS FOR KEEPING CALM AND PARENTING DURING STRESSFUL TIMES

We are living in unprecedented times, and many parents are stretched to capacity. The added stress of pandemic living can make it hard to parent calmly and effectively when children are acting out, but it’s important to re-member that children are also going through a huge period of change right now. Instead of reacting in anger, try these ideas to keep your cool. Talk to a friend – many peo-ple are suffering from a lack of physical community, so reach out by phone or text. Pray together as a family, ask-ing for patience, cheerfulness, and whatever other virtues you need to get you through the day. Set an example of forgiveness with your children — ask for it when you need it and grant it when they do. For more tips, get a copy of the VIRTUS® article, “Say it on repeat: I am going to keep my calm!” at https://lacatholics.org/did-you-know/. PRAYER IN THE TIME OF THE CORONAVIRUS

By Pope Francis I O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen. Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Moth-er of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.

Your safety is our top concern! To keep everyone safe and to comply with the COVID-19 directives of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and public health authorities, the following procedures and policies will be in effect at St. Cyril’s until further notice:

• If you exhibit a fever, cough, or shortness of breath you are asked not to enter the church or be on parish grounds. You should stay home in safety or seek medical assistance if needed.

• You must wear a face mask covering your mouth and nose at all times on parish grounds and in the church. This does not apply to chil-dren 2 years or younger. Adults who are unable to wear a face mask should not come to church.

• Hands must be washed or sanitized before en-tering the church.

• Please use only designated doors to enter or exit the church.

• No more than 100 persons may be admitted in church at one time. Reservations are required to attend Sunday Mass until further notice.

• Social distance of at least 6 ft. from others must be maintained at all times except be-tween those of the same household. Please ob-serve floor markings to help maintain distance.

• Once you are seated, stay in your pew and do not move around the church or congregate with others. Please follow usher’s instructions for Communion and for exiting the church.

• Holy Water, Hymnals & Misallettes are re-moved. Consider bringing your own Missal.

• There will be no collection. Place your donation in the baskets as you come to Communion.

• There will be no Sign of Peace. Do not shake hands or make physical contact with others.

• Communion will be distributed in the hand only. No cup.

• Those 65 years or older or those with underly-ing medical conditions should NOT come to Mass. Archbishop Gomez has dispensed the faith-ful from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass. You may view the livestream of our Sunday 10:00AM Mass on our YouTube channel.

The pandemic has been difficult for us all, but we are confident that with your prayers, and through the inter-cession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Health of the Sick, we will one day soon be able to come together again as a community to celebrate our Catholic faith fully in the many ways to which we are accustomed. Until that day comes, we thank you for your understanding and cooper-ation in following these guidelines, and we ask God's blessings so that we may all stay safe & healthy.
