Harmony and Beauty Update

As you all know, Harmony and Beauty is the theme for the continuous improvement of the facilities and grounds at Christ the King. Over the past year we continued with the “soft remodel” of the church, including completion of the sanctuary arch and raising of the altar crown.

The remodel reflects the desire for unity of design. The remodel also stresses theological truths: for example, the central axis with altar, tabernacle, and crucifix focuses our attention on the unity of the action of the Mass and the action of the Cross. The desire here and in the future is to bring greater dignity and reverence to our parish Liturgy.

What future improvements can we expect from the Harmony and Beauty Project?

The next steps of this project include the purchase of sanctuary items (altar, ambo, presider’s chair) and artwork for the arches. We have done a great deal of work in preparation for creating a narthex (lobby) which will be completed over the next few months. The front facade of the church will also have some slight enhancements made, including adding awnings for shade over the doors of the church.

The considerable focus of the coming year is the reconstruction of the church courtyard. Over the years, the elements and usage of this space have taken their toll. We have been working with our buildings and properties team and a landscape architect to create a plan for the courtyard that harmonizes the grounds from the shrine on the north side of our church to the halls on the south side. This courtyard reconstruction will open up the courtyard for community gatherings and provide more seating space in the shade.

Over by the Saint Peregrine Shrine, we will create a quiet space for prayer between the shrine and the church, as well as a beautiful, custom, life-size sculpture of Saint Peregrine at the moment of his healing.

There remain many opportunities for leaving your lasting legacy here at Christ the King. We ask all parishioners to prayerfully consider making a gift to the Harmony and Beauty Project which will be for the benefit of generations to come.

Please contact Bridgette Cosentino at (480) 844-4463 or [email protected] for information and for personal assistance in making a gift that speaks to your heart.

I am so excited about the work we have already done with the Harmony and Beauty Project, and look forward to what we will be able to do in the future. Thank you to everyone who has contributed and everyone who has helped to make this project a reality.

In Christ, Pastor

Perpetual Adoration

Blessed Mother Teresa said, “When we look at the cross we know how much He loved us. When we look at the tabernacle [or the Blessed Eucharist exposed] we know how much He loves us now.” We have several hours that need your help. We need two adorers each hour (husband/wife count as one) Is it difficult to give a specific hour each week - of course it is. Anything that is a ‘pearl of great price’ like our children, our homes, etc. bring with it difficulties, but they are treasures worth the price we pay. In addition to the Hours Chart we have posted, you can go to www.cancershrine.com and then to the Adoration page and click on the monstrance to see where we need help. There is also a link to the registration form that can be printed and submitted to the Parish office.

Dear Jesus, help me to spread Your fragrance everywhere that I go. Dear Jesus, flood my soul with Your Spirit and Your love.

Penetrate and possess my being so utterly that all my life may only be a radiance of You.

Shine through me and be so in me that ev’ry soul I come in contact with may feel Your presence in my soul.

Let them look up and see no longer me but only You my Jesus. Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as you shine so to shine as a light to all.

Come out of sadness from wherever you've been. Come, brokenhearted, let rescue begin. Come find your mercy. O sinner come kneel; Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal, earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal.

Lay down your burdens lay down your shame. All who are broken lift up your face. O wanderer, come home; You're not too far. So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart, come as you are.

There's hope for the hopeless and all those who've strayed Come sit at the table, come taste the grace. There's rest for the weary, rest that endures Earth has no sorrow, that Heaven can't cure.

Come as you are. Come as you are. Fall in His arms. Come as you are.

There's joy in the morning. O sinner, be still. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal.

Your body, your blood, united with us. Your graces of love poured out from above. As heaven kisses earth we joyously proclaim,

“Blessed are you, Lord; God forever, God of creation! Blessed are you, Lord; God forever, God of creation!”

One heart, one mind, one family with angels and saints give praise to thee. As heaven kisses earth we joyously proclaim,

The angels stand before you now and praise you night and day. Resounding in their heav’nly song, we join them as we say

devocional.
