Take the High Road to CSSA. On August 26-30, Midian Nobles and their Ladies headed west to search for Gold and we all found some ! It was beautiful and the weather was fabulous. Congratulations to each and every Noble who made the trip and competed or supported those that did compete. The Electraglide Elite had a successful “Kids Poker Run” on September 12th.

The Midian Car Show & Swap Meet held on September 13th was also very successful. Thank You to Illustrious Sir Dave Pate for being in charge of this event.

Extreme thanks to Noble Bill Bailey for being the auctioneer at the BCSC Second Chance Event. The bidding wars were handled well and there was a high level of entertainment. We even got to learn some things about college sports. Thanks to Noble Dale Lee for coming up with great items for the auction and also to Assistant Rabban Rocky McWilliams and Lady Beverly and all the others that donated great items. And of course, it would not have been the tasty meal it was without Noble Richard Wentworth and Lady Laurie Greenlee. Thank you! Actually thanks go out to everyone that

attended and even for the good feelings that come from those that

might have wanted to be there. It was a fun event.

As this year wanes (not to be confused with Illustrious Sir Wayne

Wells), it is time for all BCSC members to come together on suggestions and plans for the ensuing year. It won’t be long before we are surrounded by tinsel and other seasonal delights. That just makes it difficult to con-centrate on getting something done.

The next meeting location will be pro-vided by card as usual. See you all there.

Where has this year gone? Here we are now in the 9th month of the year. Well the Dodge City Shrine Club held their September 2015 meet-ing on the 09th at Casey’s Cowtown Club. I have to admit that his was one “super” turnout for September and we were graciously had some “SUPER” guests. Yes, we had High Priest & Prophet Reiferd & Lady Judy Acord who decided to drive out to Dodge and spend some time with us and who also represent the Midian Shrine Divan.

With Noble Reifred & Lady Judy in our midst, everyone had a great and fantastic time together…plus, you know that YOU always get great food at Casey’s.

OK OK OK ---- Yes, We now have the dates for the 2016 Dodge City Shrine Circus set in stone. We do – we really do --- The next Shrine Circus in Dodge City will be the 65th Shrine Circus to be presented in Dodge. So, Please put this on your calendar.

The 2016 circus will be the weekend of 26th – to – 28th

February. We are going to have 3 days and 8

shows of one SUPER CIRCUS for 2016. Friday: Feb: 26 --- 2 shows

Saturday: Feb: 27 --- 3 showSunday: Feb: 28 --- 3 showsPlease always know that the proceeds that

are made from the Shrine Circus go to a great cause helping children who need medical help.

The DC Shrine Club will hold their OCTOBER meeting on the 14th, Wednesday. The meeting will be held at the Central Station Bar and Grill, 207 E Wyatt Earp Blvd, Dodge City, KS. Social time starts at 6:30 pm. Dinner is at 7:00 pm.

Finally it is time to get the hog on the spit and start cooking. The rub will be applied and Mickey West will start the cooking. I have the apple wood soaking and it will add to the flavor. All of the Sumner County men are ready to get the show on the road. But what will happen first is our Third Vice President, Winston Smith, and his lady, Melissa Carlson, will tie the knot at 4pm so come out and help celebrate the oc-casion. It will be an outdoor wedding, weather permitting. It will be a blue jean wedding for the guests so leave your tux and tie hanging in the closet. The Mechanic of T-95 fame will be performing the nuptials. After the wedding and

toasting, Sumner County will be hosting our annual hog roast fund

raiser for the Plane of Mercy, eating at 5:30. We will have our big bon fire and of course our watermelon roast. Jackie

Broyles or Scotty Clark will be the MC for that event. Our DJ for the evening will be Steve Julian and lady Sissy. We will need help from everyone to keep the party running, so come out to relax and have fun. If the party runs late enough the coyotes will sing the night away. Thank each and every one of you that come, we greatly appreciate your attendance.

That’s all for now.

Greenwood County CARL “C.F.” COXReporter

Wow what a great time we had at CSSA! We had a few bumps in the road getting to competition in the Denver traffic, but made it on time (which is more than I can say for the judges!). We looked good in the crisp mountain air and when it was all said and done; have a 3rd place trophy to show for it. Third place?? When looking at the score sheets, only 3 points out of a possible 100 separated first from third. Our India Temple counterparts brought the usual stiff competition along with a very snazzy new unit of the drifter bikes called the Big Wheels. Everything was new and shiny which makes it hard to compete against our 30 year old machines. We blew them away in our drill, but couldn’t overcome new and flashy! Speaking of scores, Noble Lonnie Nichols PP was the fastest time on the obstacle course, followed closely by Noble C.F. Cox. Noble Dave Pate PP couldn’t seem to find his way through the cones in spite of trying REALLY hard. Maybe he should have followed the lead of Noble Allen Hall who took his time and never missed a turn while winning the esteemed “Driving Miss Daisy Award” for the slowest time. Congratulations to Noble Allen for winning this prestigious award!

The CSSA Parade threw us all a curve. It was scheduled in Idaho Springs which was about 30 miles west of Denver. There was much speculation about how this little mountain town could handle something the size of a CSSA Parade, but once we got there, it was evident that they were ready for us. This little town rolled out the red carpet! We had beautiful weather, a crisp 60 degrees with an abundance of sunshine and a Norman Rockwell setting in the Rocky Mountains. I think everyone in town was there to watch the parade and the local merchants

were all open and catering to the Shriners. This is what every Shrine

Parade should be like instead of looking at your reflection in the store windows of empty sidewalks.

Speaking of parades, the fall season is in full swing with parades at Severy, El Dorado, and very soon will be Fall Ceremonial and Cattlemen’s Day.

Nobles Jim Cross and Andrew Porter brought up some fund raising ideas at our September meeting. These are still in the planning stages, but there are some very good ideas being tossed around. Look for more on these very soon.

It is time again for our annual Haunted House. This is a joint effort between the 3-Wheelers and Fidelity Lodge and has become an “Event” for the Eureka Community. The dates are October 23, 24 and 30, 31. We are working Sunday afternoons on freshening up rooms and redesigning new ones so come on out to the Old Meat Locker and get involved. Even though it is a joint effort, it takes everyone to get involved to make it successful. PLEASE come out and support YOUR Unit.

The sick and injured report includes Noble Allen Hall getting a brand new shoulder the day after returning from CSSA. In spite of the Doctors orders to rest, Noble Allen is up and going strong as would be expected. I am also glad to report that Lady Lynnie continues to get stronger every day and the Doctors finally seem to have a plan to get her back on her feet, which is great news!

Better wrap this up… running out of space. Till next Month… see you at the Haunted House.

Oriental BandA big “Thank You” to Treasurer

Bob Bulman and Lady Jane for hosting a great party at their home for the OB and Divan! Noble Robert “The Bob” Bulman is one of our new mem-bers in the OB and knows how to make points with the director! Bobby can scald a mean weenie and brats which were served with side dishes brought by the participants. Also a concoction called the “Bullfrog” was served. I did notice a steady line of ladies refilling their glassed during the afternoon.

Fall Steak Feed is only a memory now ….. I hope you didn’t miss another one! If so, you will have another chance come spring.

The OB took all the 1st place trophies at CSSA in Denver this

year. Of course with only one band in each class that’s not much of a problem. Unfortunately this seems to be a sign

of the times. There are preliminary plans to go to the

Southeast Shrine Association OB Hoedown in Alexandria, Louisiana April 21 thru 24 of next year.. We have been invited down to put on the famous Mandarin Degree for a bunch of neophytes. Sounds like a bus trip extravaganza!

The picture this month is Noble Treasurer Bob Bulman being a great host!

The next note, does it begin firmly or gently? Should it be loud or soft. How long does the next note last? Is there a gap of silence before the note that comes after or do the two run together?

There are many details to reading and performing music. Quarter notes, half notes, whole notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes. And then marking: staccato, legato, sostenuto. When you put it all together and play it through a horn with a group you get caught up in it and forget most other things for the time being.

The experience is challenging and uplift-ing. You feel a kindred relationship with the other musicians.

Music can breathe life into the mundane, cheer the downhearted, sustain the excite-ment of a special gathering such as the Shrine Circus or Shrine Ceremonial.

Young people who study and perform music have an easier time learning math, ac-cording to educators and others. Performing

music is something you can continue doing most of your life,

even when your body won’t let you play football, basketball or baseball. Even when you have trouble getting

around due to bad knees or hips, you can play music

What I like to do (play music) means something. Music is important. You can join me.

Monday night is our big night with the DanceKatz rehearsing at 7pm followed by the Concert/Circus Band at 8:30pm. The Polkatz rehearse on the first and third Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm. The DixieKatz rehearse on the 2nd and 4th Thursday evenings at 7pm.

What’s more, the music of one of our groups could be just the thing to make your special event a little more special. Contact Band Manager, Noble Dan Hagan to book a band.

Well fellow Shriners and Ladies if you weren’t there you missed it. What a great time we had in Golden, Colorado! Once we got through the parking lot to get there it was time to enjoy the Shrine. Of course what hap-pens in Golden stays in Golden but I can give you some tips. We kind of took over the hotel we stayed in; had some nice large hospitality rooms and all the activities weren’t too bad to get to (not counting Moon’s GPS sending us to the wrong place for skit competition Friday morning). Yes we went to the wrong place, but we got to see downtown Denver again. All was well from there. I would say Illustrious Sir Wayne Wells and Lady Terri did really well when they picked this Hampton Inn to stay at! The trip into the mountains was good for us all. Even the parade in Idaho Springs Saturday morning with the air temp at 54 degrees was delightful (so I hear!). Us Koppers didn’t do as well as we expected (do in part to some judge not scoring us in the parade. We really don’t know what that was all about or why it wasn’t caught when they totaled up the points) but we had a good time and our skit went better than we had ever done it! Way to go Midian Keystone Koppers!! Some other goings on were the fireworks show at our Thursday business meeting and people fulfilling their bucket lists of things to do in their life at least once. I was a little confused sometimes

about where we were as people kept yelling Maui Waui and I was

thinking we were in Hawaii! Must have been the high you get in the thin air up in the mountains. And last but not least

our own Cupcake McCann and Gabe Keplar won the 2015 Chug & Roll contest again. These guys are awesome!! I am hoping to see all of you next year in Little Rock for another addition of CSSA!

I was thinking the other day about Past Potentate Dave Byerley as I was driving down the road and wondered how he can drive all over America the Beautiful on a motorcycle but can never find Moon’s house in Newton?

Closer to home the Koppers are having their fall stag birthday party on October 9th. I don’t know whose birthday we are celebrating but if you get the chance come on by. It is at the usual place and time. See any Kopper for a ticket or drop on by and get one at the door. Good food, an auction and dancing with a DJ are in store.

The Koppers are parading away as the cool weather of fall settles in so look for us in your neck of the woods as we ramble down the street.

I Wonder?? How many of you loved Golden?? I Wonder?? Will the “lost” judge’s score be found and the Midian Kops rule?? I Wonder?? Will Hurley see it through or will someone break it off?? I Wonder??

YoshiCSSA was a success for Yoshi

as well as the Midian Shrine. We received first place in the Obstacle course and third place in Competition. We felt we were on our way to a better placing with the competition but suffered two kart failures. Better luck next year! Congratulations to Noble Brian Chestnut who for the sixth consecutive year won the fastest kart in the medium engine class. We are proud to contribute to the Potentate’s traveling trophy.

A few of the Yoshi Ladies tried their kart driving skills in the Diva Derby which was held for the first time this year. Although they didn’t place, it was believed they were the fastest anyway.

Welcome to the Yoshi Unit to Noble Robert Beckner and Lady Nancy. We are

happy to have a new member and hope you enjoy riding with us.

We are striving to make Yoshi a better unit and are glad you chose us. New members are always welcome!

We are planning to have the unit Christmas Party on November 20th so save the date. A white elephant gift exchange is planned with an adult beverage theme. The location is being booked so we’ll let our members know when it gets closer.

More parades and Fall ceremony are coming in the next few months, let’s get out there and show a strong Yoshi presence. It’ll be winter before we know it and we’ll be wishing we could do just one more appear-ance. Check with one of us to find out when and where we are going.

For Captain Steve and Midian Shriners, many thanks to all that helped with the Midian Shrine Kids Run on Saturday September 12 and there were plenty that helped! Sponsorship dollars, great raffle prizes and just getting the word out about the event made it possible for the ELECTRAGLIDE ELITE to have another successful Poker Run to support Shriners Hospitals for Children and specifically our St. Louis Hospital. The final numbers always take a while to put together as we make sure we’ve covered all the expenses, but we are going to end up with over $5,000.00 for the Hospital again. That’s huge Brothers and Sisters, it means that the EE numbers goes over $20,000.00 in four years!! What a great threshold to cross and so important for Midian Shriners to be proud of as we support the very thing we do. Thanks to our Liaison Officer Oriental Guide Jay Danler and Lady Tracy for their help at the check point in Augusta and their continued support of our Unit.

Illustrious Sir Wayne and Chief Rabban Bart joined us too and allowed us the oppor-tunity to have food and beverages available in the Oasis for Run participants as well as EE Members and Friends. The weather was about perfect and the route that Captain

Steve put together, got compli-ments from everyone who took

part. Treasurer Bob Bulman couldn’t ride the route with hectic schedules, but made it by and contributed to the

cause, thanks RTB! Rather than miss someone (very possible for this Reporter), thanks again for the hard work…you know who you are. It very definitely could not have been done without you!

Now it’s onward and upward as we begin the 4th Quarter when you are reading this. Fall is at hand and with it, many activities. Bad Boar just ahead, Halloween, great Bike Runs and of course the Holidays just ahead. Time to reflect on a busy year and the memories that come along with it. Speaking for the Captain, the hopes are you’ll attend our Unit Meetings and Stated Meetings in this busy time. There will be much to do and decide on as we approach year-end – at all levels. As Master Masons, we belong to one of the oldest and most revered Fraternities on the globe. Hook that to what our Captain reminds us of at the end of all his correspondence as Shriners “remember it’s for the Kids”, and you have a very powerful bond and comradery source with you…it’s yours...use it!

Ride with Conviction, but Ride Safe!

SidewindersIt’s hard to believe that it’s

October already, where did the year go? We hear ourselves saying this all the time, but why? It isn’t until recently that I figured it out! FUN! We have so much being Masons and Shriners that we ultimately end up losing track of time, and before we know it, *POOF* the year is almost over. Fun is the name of the game, and helping children is our aim. We enjoy it so much because that’s what we do as Shriners!

There is so much going on that I couldn’t possibly fit it into this article, but, we are pleased to announce that the Sidewinders have kicked off our first unit fundraiser! Does anybody like to travel? Do you want to take your significant other on a surprise getaway? This is how you can do it! You can have a chance to win a $3000.00 travel voucher and $1000.00 spending cash to the destination of your choice! For $20.00 per ticket or six

for $100.00 you can have a chance to win this awesome travel

package! There will only be 650 tickets printed and the winner will be drawn at the afterglow party during spring

ceremonial! If not enough tickets are sold then this will revert back to a 50/50, but I think this will sell out!

We are also working on a finance program for new members to join the Sidewinders and to help ease the shock of the initial cost of the drift trike. Come join us during a meeting to find out more, we meet the third Thursday of the month in the isis room at 7:00pm

To the uni ts that brought home awards from CSSA in Colorado we say CONGRATULATIONS, and we look forward to joining you next year in Little Rock, AK at next year’s CSSA!

God Bless, and keep the shiny side up!

Well, we did it. We perfected lake life and had more fun than a human being should be allowed to have. President Ricky Brotherton and Lady Jeanie delivered more than promised. They opened up their beautiful and comfort-able Table Rock Lake home and entertained 12 Directors Staff Nobles and Ladies for the weekend of August 7-9. On Saturday night, well over 100 of Ricky and Jeanie’s friends including lake neighbors and Nobles of the Shell Knob Shrine Club of Abou Ben Adhem Shrine in Springfield, MO joined us to help celebrate Ricky’s birthday and Jeanie’s first anniversary of being cancer free. What a reason to party and what a party it was as DJ Ronnie Choy had the whole cove rockin’. With all due respect to other units and clubs, there isn’t anybody having more fun than the Directors Staff.

So, now summer is behind us and fall is fast approaching. That means Fall Ceremonial is on the horizon and approach-

ing fast. But it is still not too late to recruit a Shriner. So get out there, beat every

bush, turn over every rock, and let’s find future Shriners and get them signed up so this class will be one of the biggest and best in recent memory. The Directors Staff has all the ingredients to make this one of the finest and funest (spell check didn’t much care for that one) ceremonials in a long time. We just need to add all the candidates possible to make it a perfect recipe and have a heap’n help’n (gonna have to turn off spell check now) of fun. If you don’t have a part in the festivities on Saturday November 7, it is not too late to contact any Director Staff member and have fun with a small part or have even more fun by claiming a larger role if you wish. And now that summer is over and activities have picked up around the temple, don’t forget to stop in and support the food service at the Oasis every chance you have.

You don’t know what you missed by not firing up your JALOPY and at-tending our monthly dinner last month on the 18th. HOLY MACKERAL, it was held at the Cafe Bel Ami and hosted by Noble Bill and lady Pat Bell and Noble Dale Hannah and Lady Ginny Alden and everything was HUNKY DORY. Everyone in attendance put ON THEIR BEST BIB AND TUCKER in order to STRAIGHTEN UP AND FLY RIGHT for the night. Some even CUT A RUG, “HUBBA HUBBA” I know this may SOUND LIKE A BROKEN RECORD but everyone was IN LIKE FLYNN that night. HEAVENS TO MURGATROYD!

I’m told that some of our group wore PEDAL PUSHERS some POODLE SKIRTS and some KNICKERS. There was one FEDORA seen there that night. OH SWELL, it’s common knowledge that the wine list here is as good as any in our City amd the food, well it’s BIGGER THAN A BREAD BOX. NOT WANTING TO BE HUNG OUT TO DRY Lady Shirley and this reporter had a high school reunion conflict and were unable to attend. IF THIS ISN’T A FINE KETTLE OF FISH. We made secondary reservations and took it in by ourselves. Many thanks to our hosts.

On October 8th we’ll be hosted by Noble Kenny Loffland

and Lady Billie out at the Mennonite Farms at Yoder, KS. Now I’ll BE A MONKEY’S UNCLE if that isn’t about

upon us. Out there there will be no CANDY CIGARETTES or HULA HOOPS or LITTLE WAX BOTTLES OF COLORED SUGAR WATER, just good “down Home” vittles. I don’t remember anything this good since I WAS KNEE HIGH TO A GRASSHOPPER. On our way out we’ll be careful to find our way looking out for the Sheriff and coming home we’ll be GOING LIKE SIXTY.

This open Kansas countryside brings back memories of PITCHING WOO and BILLING AND COOING and even PASSION PITS or LOVER’S LANE. GEE WHILLIKERS, HEAVENS TO BETSY, how quick we forget. JUMPIN’ JEHOSHAPHAT! I mean HOLY MOLEY!

Remember the Beacon is open everyday awaiting the KNUCKLEHEAD Gambling Ambassadors, simply known for the past 39 years as the Shriners. Come on down. We’re no NINCOMPOOPS. REMEMBER TO WRITE IF YOU GET WORK and TO HANG BY YOUR THUMBS. DON’T TAKE ANY WOODEN NICKELS and watch out for COOTIES.

Arab PatrolCSSA was a big success for the

Midian Arab Patrol as we not only took first in the B-Class Drill Competition but also won the Traveling Trophy for having the highest overall score by a scant 0.09 of a point. This is the second year in a row winning the Traveling Trophy. One more year and we keep it!!!

What made this win even more special is that Captain Kyle Rhorer was oblivious to the noise of the train as it slowly lumbered along the tracks next to the field as he barked out the commands and the Patrol somehow managed to concentrate enough to hear the commands over the train noise and executed the maneuvers. While that was happening, Veteran Loyd Geist managed to blow the heels off his shoes and not miss a step. Captain Kyle said later that he thought someone was throwing rocks at him when pieces of the Loyd’s heel went flying. Later at the Patrol Luncheon at El Jebel Shrine Center, our drummer and Past Potentate Warren “Doc” Rensner took up a collection to buy new shoes for Loyd. Enough was collected so, Loyd, it looks like this is NOT going to be your last year at CSSA. By the way, Captain Kyle is very grateful and appreciative of Veterans Ron Fisher, Loyd Geist and Terry House for volunteering and stepping in to fill the ranks and color guard. Without you veterans, the Patrol would have been down to an 8-man squad (yuck) with no color guard.

The Patrol did not fare as well on the parade side of the competition as we finished second. Basically, Ararat out pointed us on number of maneuvers within the judging area. We will work on that for next year. Another first for the Patrol was the sharing of a Hospitality room with the Divan. I believe this is the wave of the future as many Shrine Centers such as Moolah and Ararat are already doing this. Along with donations from the Oriental Band, Nascarts, 3-Wheelers and Yoshi, the monies not spent for our own hospitality went to renting two 15-pas-senger vans to transport the Patrol and ladies to the competition site instead of carpooling.

With the Denver traffic and location of the sites (Coors Field and El Jebel Shrine Center), we definitely would have lost a few on the way. Since we had the van for 24 hours, we also used it to take everyone to Olive Garden for the Patrol dinner that night. First Lieutenant Larry Tomes and Second Lieutenant Brian West did an excellent job chauffeuring the Patrol around town. Also, Second Lieutenant Brian West for brought his trailer to help transport the many items needed for the Hospitality Room and First Lieutenant Larry Tomes a few cases of chips,

popcorn and summer sausage. Thank you, guys!!

Finally, thanks to all the Patrol Ladies that brought snacks but more impor-tantly, for being our cheering squad and

moral support during the competition. Very special thanks to Veteran Larry Smith and CSSAPA Secretary and Past Captain Mike Staats for their work in organizing the event in Denver. As many of you know, we initially had problems finding a site for the drill completion until Coors Field was finally selected. Even more critical, the Marine judges that originally volunteered for the competition had to pull out the Friday before CSSA for a special training that included the Army and Air Force personnel as well. We suspect it may have something to do with the Tennessee recruiters that were slain earlier that month. Luckily, there was a National Legion of Honor convention in town so Past Captain Mike and Veteran Larry were able to enlist their services to judge our competition. Since CSSA, many patrolmen were getting back to their normal day to day life.

The Midian Chippers league was winding down and the Midian Bowling league started up. Veteran Terry House and, Oriental Guide Jay Danler with Lady Tracy attended the Midian Car Show while Rick Mitchell and I worked with the Midian Chefs preparing and serving sloppy Joes, hot dogs, Joe dogs, chips and water. Later that day, Veteran Glenn Holmes was honored with a 60-year Masonic Pin at Watson Park with representatives from the Kansas Grand Lodge present. Congratulations, Glenn!

On a sadder note, rookie Patrolmen Anson Long will be leaving us and heading to California for three years of schooling. He said he will be keeping his Midian Shrine membership active and will be returning. Good luck, Anson! Also, Past Captain Norm Hammergren and Lady Jo Rhorer’s father are in failing health so please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Upcoming events include marching in the Arkalalah Parade in Arkansas City on October 31st followed by the Midian Fall Ceremonial on the following weekend. A Patrol Family outing is tentatively scheduled for October 10th or 11th at Sedgwick County Zoo. You will be notified with final details.

Photo - The Arab Patrol is pictured in Idaho Springs just before the parade started. Diane Baker came up to us and thanked all the Shriners for taking care of her when she was very young. She was a Shrine patient from 1962-1975 at the Philadelphia hospital.

Until next time, keep in step!

Greetings nobles and ladies. Fall is finally here. There are just a few more months left in the year, but we’ve still got quite a bit of work to do. Thank you to everyone who was able to participate in the PACE race, and the Light the Night walk for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. These types of special events are important. It helps out other local charities apart from our own, while simultaneously drawing some public attention towards the Shriners and our Hospitals. We are even working on some ideas to make it more obvious that our Toons are from Midian while at these events. It’s not enough that the event organizers know us. We want the event goers to know as well, because boosting our public perception and reputation will help us all out as Midian Shriners.

One of those things that could benefit from increased public exposure is mem-bership. None of us have virgin ears when it comes to how much emphasis is placed on membership. We are now one month away from Fall Ceremonial. If you’ve got any prospects interested in the Shrine that are already Masons, there’s still plenty of time. They can sign up for Ceremony up to the morning it starts, so start looking.

Remember that they don’t have to be interested in the

Cartoons. We hold our unit in high re-gard, but it’s not for everyone. Don’t let their interest in a different hobby

dissuade you from helping them join the fraternity. If you know any prospects that aren’t Masons yet, well, it’s way too late for the Fall. But guess what! There is plenty of time before Spring Ceremony!

It should also be noted that our Shrine dues will be going up starting next year. The new dues rate is $150. Keep that in mind and plan accordingly. Cartoon dues are still a bargain at $10. If you haven’t been to a unit meeting in a while, we’d love to catch up with you. We still meet on the second Thursday of every month, at 6:30 pm in the Isis room. If you’re not a member of the Toons, but you’re interested and want to know more, you’re welcome to come sit in on a meeting and check us out. No special invitation required. We can also be reached at [email protected] or on our FaceBook page, www.face-book.com/MidianShrineCartoonUnit. Our characters are even available for parties, typically for children but hey, we don’t judge. Until next time, That’s All Folks!!!

NomadsIt’s not to late to join us. The

Nomads have one camp out left. October 10th & 11th at Lake Afton Shelter #1. The grill will be fired up Friday evening, bring your choice of meat to cook. Saturday morning breakfast campers will be on their own as the LOS ladies will be at their Mid-States Unit Meet, Good luck and safe travels ladies. The meeting will begin at 2pm followed by the auction. At 5:30 join us for a potluck supper.

What better way to end the day than to gather around the campfire

on a cool October evening with your fellow shrine family. It’s always a great weekend at Nomads! Come on

out! The Midian Nomads camping unit is open to all shrine families. If you have any questions please contact Noble Ray Richecky at (316) 250-4374. See ya at the lake! Rember, home is where you park it!

GREETINGS NOBLES!At the September Stated Meeting a Proposal for Midian Dues Increase was presented and was approved by more than a ⅔ majority. THANK YOU for your support for

this proposal! As was illustrated by the presentation slides at the Stated Meeting on September 16, 2015, your Divan is committed to continually striving to keep expenses managed as

closely as possible. We are blessed with having some great business leaders and some great key personnel in businesses on our elected Board of Directors, including our Elected Trustees. Those elected Nobles bring to the board years of financial and business strategic skills that serve Midian and her Nobility well.

Nobles on the appointed side of the Board of Directors also continually provide valuable input throughout the year. They also make up a key part of the Leadership Team at Midian Shrine Center.

Both the Elected and the Appointed Nobles serving on your Divan spend a large percentage of their time dedicated to leading Midian to positive results, to researching and to providing input geared toward making decisions which they feel are prudent, and to insuring those decisions are based on fiduciary responsibility.

Through good fiscal business practices and management, your Divan has been able to keep Midian’s expenses largely flat for the past several years. We’ve been able to manage an expense growth rate of around 1.9%. The loss of membership, however, has caused a greater and greater gap between Midian’s Expenses vs. Income from Dues.

As we discussed in that Stated Meeting, income from Midian’s Dues only supports approximately 30% of Building Operations & Employee Salaries, with the balance being made up with a mix of Oasis Revenue, Facility Rentals, Fundraising Efforts, & Investment Revenue. THANK YOU for your support of the Oasis Food and Drink offerings as well as your Fundraising Efforts throughout the year and the rentals you purchase individually and provide referrals for! THANK YOU!

Here is the breakdown for the Dues for 2016:Shriners Hospitals for Children Assessment $ 5.00 Shriners International Per-Capita $ 30.00Midian Shriners Annual Dues $ 115.00Total Annual Dues $ 150.00 per year

For many years, we’ve offered the capability to pay your dues by credit card or by debit card. We’re making a big push to remind you of that now. You’ll be hearing that at the Unit and Club level from all the Divan members as we meet with you on upcoming meeting cycles.

Midian offers the option of paying your dues by Credit Card or Debit Card Monthly ($12.50 per month on the first business day of the month), Quarterly ($37.50 on the first business day of the quarter) or Annually, prior to the last business day of the year for the following year. Dues are due, in full, prior to the membership year. In other words, dues for 2016 are due in 2015; dues for 2017 are due in 2016, etc...

Perpetual Life Memberships (PLMs) are a GREAT way to support Midian Shrine Center forever. Until 12/31/2015, you can purchase a Perpetual Life Membership for $1,980.00. Payments can also be made on that amount up to 12/31/2015 - but it would have to be paid in full to be in effect prior to the Per-Capita Increase and the Midian Dues Increase.

Nobles, you can ALSO purchase your Per-Capita, your Shriners Hospitals for Children Assessment, and your Midian Shriners Dues each individually as components of a PLM. In other words, up to 12/31/2015, you could pay $150 for your Lifetime Shriners Hospitals for Children Assessment, you could pay $450 for your Lifetime Per-Capita and you could pay $1,380 for your Lifetime Midian Shriners Dues. To get those prices, they must be paid prior to 12/31/2015.

If you would like to purchase your Perpetual Life Membership prior to 12/31/2015, you can make payments on it for a total of $1,980.00. That plan must be paid in full prior to 12/31/2015. For those of you already on a PLM payment plan, we will need to adjust those plans slightly, depending on where you are at in your payment schedule. For those Nobles that are already on a PLM payment plan, please see our Office Manager & Accountant, Cheno Workman and he will work with you to determine what adjustments will need to be made.

To Review: Perpetual Life Memberships (PLMs) are a GREAT way to support Midian Shrine Center forever. Until 12/31/2015, you can purchase a Perpetual Life Membership for $1,980.00. Payments can also be made on that amount up to 12/31/2015 - but it would have to be paid in full to be in effect prior to the Per-Capita Increase and the Midian Dues Increase.

Divan Board of Directors - Appointed or Elected. If that particular Divan member doesn’t know the answer, we will find the right person who has an answer for you.Nobles, your Divan is ALWAYS looking for ways to improve membership benefits and to creatively think out-of-the-box for ways to make things better and operate more

efficiently. If you would like to provide input or serve on a committee to specifically address an issue, or issues, please let us know. There always has been, and always will be, opportunities for volunteering in those areas.

Your support of and feedback about Midian Events and Activities is also always wanted and encouraged. If you would like to see something added or have a suggestion regarding current events, please let your Board of Directors know.

Nobles, we want you to be involved. We need you to be involved. Most importantly, we need everyone to realize that every member of Midian Shriners is on the Membership Team and act upon the fact that Membership is critical to our long-term survival as Shriners and our Mission of Mercy - Shriners Hospitals for Children.

We need everyone to actively participate in Membership Development and Recruitment at Midian. There are good men out there who would make outstanding Masons and Shrine Masons. We just need to find them, tell them our story, and show them how they can become involved as a member in the World’s Greatest Fraternity & Philanthropy.

Again, THANK YOU for your Support for this Dues Change to support the Operations Budget of Midian Shrine Center. I hope to see many of you around your Midian Shrine Center soon!

Yours in the Faith,Bart Ogden, Chief RabbanMidian Shriners

Arami Court JAN HIEBERTReporter

Fall is definitely in the air! The Ladies and Units of Arami Court are get-ting ready for a sorts of autumnal activities. Sep. 19 is a double-header with the Krafty Krew preparing breakfast for the Midian Nomads at Lake Afton and the Kandyland Klowns co-hosting a steak dinner with the Krazy Klowns just prior to the Post-CSSA party.

The Kandyland Klowns, Krafty Krew and Kan-Du-Dancers are all busy preparing skits and new line dances for their performances at the Mid-States Unit Meet in Independence, MO, Oct. 9-10. The Bloomin’ Buddies are anxious to hear from a Master Gardener on Sep. 29 then will visit Kauffman Gardens in Kansas City on their way home from the unit meet. The newest club of Arami Court is the Kulinary Kuties, who have written their rules and regulations and elected officers in preparation for becoming an authorized group of the Court.

The Ladies have several fund raising projects going on. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Princesses Dinner on Sep. 3 immediately prior to our Court meeting. It was well attended and the food was yummy. Thank you to Lady Dianna Clay who did the cooking.

Orders for Mascot Pecans have been turned

in to the vendor. The first part of November we will be notified of a

delivery date. Because orders are placed for full cartons, we will have several extra pecan items for sale. If you would still like

fresh pecans for holiday baking, please let us know.

We will be taking orders for a variety of steak packages which will be delivered on Dec. 3, just in time for holiday feasts or holiday gifts.

Tickets for the Oct. 30 Murder Mystery fundraiser, “The Pungent Pumpkin Poisoner”, are SOLD OUT. Way to go, Lady Georgia Bruner!

We are pleased to announce that Elizabeth McKee is the latest recipient of the Arami Court Scholarship. Elizabeth is attending Colby Community College. We wish her much success!

The Ladies of Arami Court and several of our units are busy gathering ornaments for several Christmas trees and centerpieces for the upcoming Fez-tival of Trees at Midian. Our creative Ladies have come up with several fabulous themes for this new event. We are really looking forward to participating.

Until next month, we are “Beacons of Light.”

Daughters of the Nile JPQ SUE SHEETSReporter

Well, summer is over and Zohar had our first session after the break. If you have not been coming you are missing out on some exciting things. Our Supreme Queen, Sharon K. St. John will be here on October 7th. We have two more practices before then, September 27th, and October 4th both at 1:30 pm at the Kansas Masonic Home. The Patrol Unit has gained a couple of new members and are looking forward to performing during the SQ visit.

Another event coming up on November 8th is a Quarter Mania Fundraiser. This is a cross between an auction and raffle where people bid to win an item or product of new goods donated from local businesses and home business that are participating in the event. There will be snacks and refreshments for purchase during the event. Again it is

November 8th, 2015 from 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm. It will be held at the

Kansas Masonic Home Auditorium, 401 South Seneca. This is open to the public, so bring your friends and family

and come help support D.O.N. Half of the proceeds will go to the general fund of Zohar Temple No. 65 and the other half will go to the Daughters of the Nile Foundation. We would like to thank Nina Gracy who has worked very hard putting this together. She also is our Social Chairman.

We are looking at attending a Murder Mystery for our December Social so come to our next session on October 5th to learn more.

Queen Sue has been very busy as well making decorations for the Banquet and her personal touch to her VIP gifts have been very special this year. Hope to see you in October.
