GLORY TO THE HOLY TRINITY! After being sheltered in for almost three months without being able to

come to Church for our Sunday worship and Holy Masses the good Lord

has made it possible for us to come together again last weekend at the celebration of Pentecost Sunday. We commemorated the birthday of the

church and we actually felt a rebirth as we came to praise and thank God

for protecting us from the deadly coronavirus and keeping us alive and for

gathering us again as one joyful family of God. This Sunday we honor the Holy Trinity, a profound mystery of our faith where we believe in one God in three

persons. God is one but not alone. Between each person is a communion and relationship of pure and infinite

love. All the Three, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, created, redeemed and sanctified us. Indeed, our God is mer-

ciful, gracious, patient, kind and faithful. They serve as model for us in our relationship with each other if we want to have heavenly peace and joy even while still on earth.

As we continue to gather as God’s family, let us thank God that we have been unscathed by the global pandem-

ic. We pray for the healing and speedy recovery of those infected as well as for the eternal repose of all the vic-

tims. We must also remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions of keeping ourselves safe and healthy by following the protocols on safe distancing, wearing face masks, keeping hygiene and remaining at home if any-

On this solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity we raise our voices with the classic verses:

“O Most Holy Trinity, undivided unity, O holy God, mighty God, God immortal be adored.”

The Most Holy Trinity

Pastor’s Corner By Rev. Fr. Edgar B. Brillantes

Next Sunday’s Reading

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)

First Reading Responsorial Psalm Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14-16 Psalm: 147:12-15, 19-20 Second Reading Gospel 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 John 6:51-58

Our Lady of the Mount Church

First Reading: Exodus 34:4-6, 8-9

This Reading presents two aspects of our Triune God: mercy and fidelity. Today’s reading is best understood in the context of Exodus 32, Israel’s sin of infidelity in making the “golden calf” to replace God. In anger, Moses breaks the stone tablets upon which the Ten Commandments were written. When Israel atones for this sin, Moses receives from God a new set of stone tablets of the Ten Commandments. In response, Moses bows down in worship to God, who forgives his people for their idolatry. In being given a second chance at receiving the Ten Commandments, Moses recognizes God’s mercy and fidelity to a sinful and “stiff-necked people.”

Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 13:11-13

In this Reading, we hear one of the clearest expressions of the Trinity in the New Testament: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” Written within twenty years after the Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus, Paul already saw the principal functions of the Trinity as grace, love and fellowship.

Gospel: John 3:16-18

The Gospel tells that the human desire to see the face of God was fulfilled by the incarnation of the only-begotten Son. In Jesus, the tender compassion, the personal favor, the patience, and the unconditional love that Israel recognized as the signs of God’s presence with them were manifested in human form. But Jesus is more than an icon of God. He was sent to show how deeply God loves all creation. No one gauged the depth of divine love until Jesus laid down his life, and God raised him up, opening the way to eternal life for all who believe in him. For John, bibli-cal believing requires a personal commitment to Jesus and participation in his mission to reveal God’s love to the world. Those who so believe, those who are “born again of water and the Spirit,” already share in God’s life. In such outpouring of divine love, condemnation has no place. Those who do not believe in Jesus sentence themselves.

THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC: HAWAII UPDATE

*While we started coming back to church for our public

celebration of the Holy Mass on weekends and weekdays we

continue to observe safe distancing, wear face covering,

keep hygiene practices and no-large close gathering.

*Dispensation for not attending mass in churches due to high risk or fear of

infecting or contracting coronavirus is extended until June 30 by the bishop

but highly encouraged to join the televised or livestreamed mass.

*Eateries and restaurants, gyms, movie theaters and bars opened last Friday

and other businesses will follow on June 19. All must observe social

distancing rules.

❖”LET US KEEP PRAYING FOR DELIVERANCE FROM THE DEADLY VIRUS AND FOR THE SAFETY AND GOOD HEALTH OF EVERYONE”❖

*The directive from the Bishop to open up the churches on May 30/31 for public worship comes in conjunction with the

order of the local authorities. The parishes have received guidance from the Diocese to prepare our churches for the

return to normal services thru disinfecting and sanitizing. The faithful are still expected to abide by the 6-feet distancing,

face covering and avoiding crowded gatherings. The dispensation for not attending Mass in church for fear of infecting

others or contracting the virus is extended up to June 30 or until further notice.

On the succeeding Sundays, we continue to provide the live-streamed Mass at 9:00am. The Bishop is urging us to par-

ticipate in the televised or livestreamed Mass to fulfill our obligation if we cannot go to Church yet. There are also pre-

scribed prayers that we can use individually or as a family. We need to keep connected with our Almighty God who can

put an end to this pandemic and allow us to return unscathed to our normal lives. Let us stay safe, healthy and blessed

and continue to pray for one another and for the whole world.

Our Lady of the Mount Church The Most Holy Trinity

*PRAYER FOR DELIVERANCE FROM THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC*

*By Bishop Larry Silva

Dear God of all the living, you sent your Son Jesus to heal us from illness and sin.

We turn to his healing power in this time of anxiety over the pandemic of this potentially deadly virus.

St. Damien and St. Marianne Cope dedicated their lives to the service of those who had an infectious disease.

St. Marianne Cope said, “I am not afraid of any disease,” because she was confident in your power to save.

At the same time, she took prudent precautions of hygiene to assure that she and her Sisters would not be infected.

Let us learn from this example to put our trust in you to save us from the ravages of disease and to take prudent

measures to prevent its spread. Guide us to know when to isolate ourselves from the possibility of infection,

but never let anyone be left without the care and concern of others in the community.

As our Diocese of Honolulu has been dedicated to the Divine Mercy, we pray with confidence, “Jesus, I trust in you.”

Amen.

Saint Damien, pray for us! * Saint Marianne, pray for us!

PARISH STEWARDSHIP Stewardship is responsible sharing in gratitude of the gifts of time, talent and treasure that God has bestowed upon each one of us. This has been mani-fested by our dear parishioners in various ways: MAHALO TO GOOD STEWARDS ***GIFTS OF LOVE ❖We acknowledge all generous monetary contributions which support our pastoral programs and ongoing projects as well as the basic operation of the Church and the rectory through the regular Sunday offering en-velopes and donations. We, the priests, the parish staff and leaders, deeply appreciate and gratefully acknowledge all dear parishioners who faithfully and steadily support our Church with their prayers, steward-ship and personal involvement in our parish activities and programs. ***STEWARDSHIP APPEAL Our appreciation and gratitude to all dear Parishioners who responded to our appeal for their continued stew-ardship by mailing or dropping their offering envelopes or Mass intention offerings as well as using the online giving thru the Diocese website to help defray the needs and expenses of the parish. ***MINISTERS & VOLUNTEERS – Our Parish has been blessed with such responsible stewards who serve and give without counting the cost and we keep praising and thanking God for them. ❖REPAIR & MAINTENANCE ***RENOVATION OF THE CONVENT We are glad and grateful to the Lord for the completion of the 3-phased renovation of the convent under the supervision of Joyce Oliveira, the chair of the Parish Planning & Building Committee (PPBC), and of the pro-ject manager, Roger Isidro. All labor and material costs were duly defrayed with no debt incurred. Thanks to the faithful stewardship of parishioners and the productive fundraising spearheaded by Becky Jandoc and her Finance and Fundraiser ad hoc committees. Bishop Larry Silva will come to bless it as the new Pastoral Center. The remaining minor jobs on plumbing, electrical and carpentry are handled by volunteers. Roger Isidro con-tinues to maintain the structures with repainting and upgrading deteriorating fixtures. Together with Rudy Fi-esta, they painted the entrance porches of the church and convent after doing the same on the concrete staircases to the back and side entrances of the convent. Meanwhile, Daniel Kang, an RCIA catechumen who first volunteered and eventually hired continues working on the upgrading of plumbing and electrical fix-tures under the supervision of Roger Isidro. The needed repairs are more or less completed with the installa-tion of the sensor lights around the compound. On their part, the ladies which include Becky DeCorte, Joyce Oliveira, Becky Jandoc & Tita Calizar are eyeing the best way to restore order inside the renovated convent as well as give a fresh look with additional carpentry works and new sets of furniture in the Kokua Ministry office and display rooms. Aida Isidro provided a new stand fan for one room. Tom & Becky DeCorte's grand-sons – Jordan, Nainoa & Elijah also stepped up to help in cleaning up and putting into place some furniture of the Kokua Ministry. They are certainly appreciated. Members of the Parish Facilities & Building Committee (PFBC) wound up their voluntary services of improving and maintaining our facilities particularly the plumbing and electrical source for the renovated con-vent, parish hall and church. They worked on the needed fixtures for the Kokua office, storage and display rooms, they checked the status of the old outlets and replaced the dead ones. They also installed new water heater and AC units in the convent as well as sensor lights in strategic spots with new connecting lines to enhance our compound security. Volunteering their time and efforts are Roger Isidro, Adriano Daligcon and Rudy Fiesta. The hired handyman is Daniel Kang.

❖CHURCH ENVIRONMENT In the midst of the pandemic crisis when there are no public services in church, some faithful parishioners

continue to come every Saturday to prepare the Church for the livestreamed and private celebrations. They

clean the altar with new linens, decorate the sanctuary with flowers, put up the seasonal banners and other

tasks. They set up the proper worship environments and make our celebrations dignified and meaningful. In

compliance with the Diocese advisory they marked the seating in the pews and communion line for 6-ft

distancing as well as empty the holy water fonts and disinfect the church. We do appreciate Marivic Palting,

Bella Miranda, Doi Facuri, Gloria Rodrigues and Fran Kovaloff for their dedication and devotion.

Due to the pandemic, the scheduled spring cleaning in church was skipped. However, to enhance the safety

and cleanliness of the church environment, Gil & Vangie Bacani, Juliet Walsh and Ador Padilla volunteered

to do a thorough dusting and washing of the church louvre windows. They did an awesome job!

❖LITURGY The live-streamed Masses for the past 10 Sundays were shot and

produced by Dominic Olaso, head-servant of the Diocesan Evangeli-

zation Task Force (DETF). He is going back to serve in the parish of

St. Pius XII in Manoa. The livestreaming of OLM Sunday Mass at

9:00am will continue via the OLM Facebook account and thru the

kind services of the Llamedo family. There is also a wi-fi hook-up to

the parish hall in case of an overflow in the church. Here the faithful

can attend the Mass and receive Holy Communion from there. This is

made possible thru the high-tech know-how of Jun Cortez and Fidel

Flores. We thank Mary Ann Llamedo for providing solemn music

accompaniment. All of them faithfully provided their respective services during the shutdown lightening the

effect of the covid-19 pandemic and continue to do so at the re-opening of our church.

❖GARDENING As the world continues to lie low in this crisis, some people don’t want to remain idle. Aside from attending to

their personal and family concerns they come to help with the upkeep of the church grounds. Clemente

Fontanilla mows the grasses; the couple tandem of Lito and Lia Centino planted new plants by the side of the

Hall and Rectory while Eddie Lucero and Jun Flores continue to keep the yellow hibiscus blooming with

flowers thru regular pruning and watering.

God bless them all!

***Our parish is always welcoming and open to any parishioner who wants to volunteer in the councils, committees, ministries, organizations, clubs, prayer groups and donor societies and share your God-given talents and gifts to keep our Church going. You may submit your name at the parish office or contact our pastor. God bless and reward you abundantly.

*TO ALL THE GOOD STEWARDS, OUR SINCERE THANK YOU!*

gress, redistricting, and to guide the distribution of over

$675 billion in federal funds.

The information is used to determine a community’s

funding for programs such as Medicare and Medicaid for our kupunas, school lunches for our children, Pell

Grants for those pursuing college degrees, transportation services, support to first responders and front liners

and many more.

Your response to the 2020 Census is critical so that we can get an accurate and complete count of our com-

munity. Your answers are safe, confidential, and will not be shared with other agencies.

It's easy to respond online at www.my2020census.gov or call 844-330-2020 (English) or 844-478-2020

(Tagalog). You may also fill out your paper questionnaire in English or Tagalog and mail it back to the Cen-

sus Bureau.

Our Diocesan Congress of Filipino Catholic Clubs (DCFCC) has been working with the Filipino Complete

Count Committee to get the word out about the census. Bishop Larry Silva also expressed his support thru a

Letter by the Chancellor, Deacon Keith Cabiles.

Learn more about the Census with various professional groups of Filipinos during the Tsismisan Talk Story

on every Sunday from 12:30 pm-1:30 pm which is simulcast on KITV channel, KITV Facebook Live and KNDI

1270 radio.

FEAST DAYS Jun 9 St. Ephrem, deacon and doctor of the Church Jun 11 St. Barnabas, apostle Jun 13 St. Anthony of Padua, priest and doctor of the Church

A STEWARDSHIP PRAYER IN A TIME OF CRISIS

God of love and mercy, we are living under the cross of your Son in an unexpected and unwelcome way.

We feel the gripping power of fear, anxiety, powerlessness and dread. We face the cross with a fearful heart.

Send your Spirit down upon us to give us wisdom and courage, to console us and give us peace.

One with you and your Son, the Spirit is the giver of life who can guide us through the storms

and comfort us in our pain and discouragement. Through your Spirit, transform our weakness into strength

and breathe confidence into us, so that our stewardship of the Gospel will give us a new boldness to proclaim the hope of your cross and the joy of Easter morning.

We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

ONLINE GIVING FOR PARISHES THRU THE DIOCESE OF HONO-LULU ENDS JULY 31, 2020 For those who participated in this opportunity, we apologize for the change. Please be advised that reports of your donations to Our Lady of the Mount will be transferred as stipulated. At this time, however, OLM has no online giving service. The Finance Council is researching various vendors for one that would be most beneficial for our parishioners. You will be advised of their findings and recommen-dations. We need and appreciate your support. You may either sub-mit your Offertory envelopes at Mass or mail them to the office. Thank you for your generosity, understanding and trust. Please contact the Office if you have any questions.

KOKUA OFFICE & PANTRY IS CLOSED Although closed, Coordinator Becky DeCorte and her hard-working team have prepared

bags of non-perishable food for anyone in need of them. You may pick up a bag (one per family) at the Rectory Office be-tween 8:30am to 11:30am, Monday to Friday. A big MAHALO to all the donors who make this food distribution possible! NOTICE: Until further notice, the Kokua Office IS NOT ACCEPTING NON-FOOD ITEMS AT THIS TIME.
