What is alarming is that this trend is observed in countries all over the world. With forests playing a crucial part in the maintenance of a country’s environment and its sustainable growth in the long term, it is important to encourage and educate the younger generation of the need for forest studies. In the issues of forestry, international cooperation is also an emerging issue. Forests, being one of the millstones of our environment, cannot be separated as a single country’s issue. As the United Nations Environment Program recognizes in its objectives, “…(the) strengthening of forest-related national institutes” is essential in “…enhancing the effectiveness of management, conservation and sustainable development of forests…” (UNEP, Agenda 21: Combating Deforestation) ASEAN Korea Centre (AKC) and ASEAN ROK Forest Cooperation (AFoCo) recognize the importance of promoting sustainable forest management as well as acting as a platform for the dialogue between the ASEAN Member States and the ROK. To do so, AKC and AFoCo would like to invite students from the ASEAN Member States and the ROK to promote the development of future leaders in the field of forestry as well as encourage a closer relationship between the ASEAN Member States and the ROK. ASEAN-Korea Youth Network Workshop will be a week-long program with lecture sessions and field excursions both in Korea and Indonesia. 2) Objectives To discuss the global issue related to forest conservation and ways how to overcome the barrier and environmental challenges To further enhance the networks and genuine friendship among the ASEAN and Korea youth toward a shared future To provide a platform for the youth of ASEAN and Korea, who will be the future leaders, to exchange ideas on how to collaborate together Date: 10-18 August 2015 Venue: Korea (Seoul, Gangwondo), Indonesia (Jakarta, Yogyakarta) Organizer: ASEAN-Korea Centre, ASEAN-ROK Forest Cooperation Secretariat (AFoCO) Participants: ASEAN and Korean university and graduate students
