OLV Parishioners, OLV Parish Council, OLV AFF (RCIA) Team
Dear Friends,
It has been almost 3 months since we were so greatly affected by the Covid-19 virus. Following governmental and diocesan regulations for Phase 1 we cancelled religious services, educational programs, and social gatherings. Starting on March 22, our online Sunday Eucharist held us together in very challenging circumstances.
On May 16-17 in Phase 2 we were able to restore our Mass schedule with appropriate social distancing, again following governmental and diocesan guidelines. I pray that Phase 3 will be implemented soon and that we will again be able to pray and to celebrate and socialize together in our "normal" ways.
Some folks have inquired about RCIA and First Communion celebrations. I made a decision to delay these celebrations until Phase 3 so that all family and friends can celebrate these joyous events and not just with minimal and selective attendance. I believe that First Communion is a tremendous personal and communal experience, not only receiving Eucharist individually but also together as a class with extended family celebrations that can include grandparents and aunts and uncles. It is a joyful parish celebration. That is still the experience at OLV to such a degree that we encourage folks to attend another Mass so that there will be enough room for families.
With that in mind, I think it best to wait for Phase 3 guidance so that we can have a real celebration. I know that other parishes have scheduled individual communions but I was holding out for the larger gathering with families. This is also my thought regarding RCIA. We also want to celebrate Mother's and Father's Day in our usual fashion.
I apologize for not sharing with all of you my thoughts regarding our parish celebrations. As a welcoming community I deeply value our parish life together.
While the numbers have increased at our Masses (in addition to the live streaming) many, many people are still apprehensive about gatherings. I am trying to respect that. I am awaiting another phase to be declared and, based on the guidelines, I hope that we will be able to discern the appropriate times for celebrations.
Let us continue to support and pray for one another,
Fr Dan

MASSES RESUME! We are celebrating Mass at Wolf Creek, Saturdays 3:00 pm, and at OLV Saturdays 6:00 pm, Sundays 8:00 am and 10:00 am.
We will continue streaming the 10:00 am Mass. There is Mass and reconciliation at OLV Wednesdays 6:30 pm. Please note: Only the lector and bread baking schedules are activated at this time.
Other ministry and server schedules will continue on hold until further notice.
There are guidelines to follow so that we are in compliance with state and diocesan requirements. The following plan has been approved by the Bishop.
Mass will be celebrated in the Faith Formation Center
Social distancing of 6 feet MUST be maintained and managed when entering and leaving the church
and with seating between non-family members. Chairs will be appropriately spaced.
Hymnals will not be used
People may wear masks
Baskets for offerings are available at the entrance
We will be sanitizing after each Mass
Please know that the obligation to attend Sunday Mass continues to be suspended. People who feel sick should remain at home as should vulnerable and at-risk populations. Please join the streaming Mass.
We believe that we have adequate seating. But if we have to turn folks away once we have reached our "safe" capacity, we ask for your understanding. You can read the Bishop's documents at https://diocesehelena.org/ or
on their Facebook page, Roman Catholic Diocese of Helena.
