Dear Friends, We are approaching another edition of COEUR, the Idea Generation Workshop. This will be the fourteenth edition and the third to be held in Portugal. In the last edition we were very well received in the city of Helsinki, Finland; so this year let’s move to Cascais, 30 kilometres (19 miles) west of Lisbon. For this year’s COEUR - Idea Generation Workshop we’ll have: 1. A theme: “Active Ageing” 2. A focus: “Tourism & Ageing” The theme will guide the seminars and technical visits that will be held along the programme; the focus will be the background of group activities, interests, concerns and to remind us that whatever idea or solution (product, service, process) that will be put forward, simple or complex, it will have to have a market and to be successfully in that market. ACTIVE AGEING - SHORT INTRODUTION Over the past few years, several countries have to address the problem of demographic ageing and the number of people seeking for active ageing has increased. The word "active" is not just the ability to be physically active, but means to continuing participation in social, economic, cultural, spiritual and civic affairs. Active ageing is the process of optimizing opportunities for physical, social, and mental well-being. Currently the adult and seniors consumers represent the majority of the world population. Therefore, the economic impact and the purchasing power is in these segments. The tourism sector has been severely affected by this trend, especially with the change of international tourist flows , particularly in developed countries where the demand for this new type of tourism has increased.

The current demand for goods and services that promotes active ageing has led many organizations and brands to focus their business in this new category of consumers, however, this isn’t enough. We must develop measures and actions to promote active ageing, taking into account the growing demand for goods and services that promotes physical and mental well-being.

HOST ORGANIZATION

ISCTE University Institute of Lisbon (www.iscte-iul.pt) is a public university established in 1972. Pursuing teaching, research and community services, it plays a major role in educating qualified specialists and personnel, whose cultural, scientific and technical skills enable them to contribute to sustainable development both at the national and the global level. LOCATION

Cascais is a coastal town and a municipality in district of Lisbon. The region renowned worldwide for its

natural beauty and rich heritage that makes this area very popular for both Portuguese and foreign

tourists.

Last year, Cascais was elected European Youth Capital for 2018. Behind this election, emerged a

project that aims to create a movement of hope and future for European Youth. The initiative "Cascais

- European Youth Capital for 2018" will focus on the following themes: youth unemployment, mobility,

education and skills, the right to family and happiness.

Participants will be lodged at “O Século” Foundation, with a capacity for 100 people. “O Século” is a

Social Solidarity Foundation that supports underprivileged children and seniors. The accommodation

has 32 rooms. The property has direct beach access, outdoor patio, canteen and Wi-Fi. The Estoril

center is a 5-minute drive while the São Pedro do Estoril Train Station is a 5-minute walk away.

Programme fee: 290 € for participants and 350 € for professors It includes the bus round trip from ISCTE to Cascais; transportation to technical visits; full lodging from the beginning till the end of the programme; seminars and activities. Participants: In order to guarantee some diversity in the COEUR group, we are expecting 5 students from each Partner University, about 35 students in total. The official recruitment started on May 1st and the first phase closes on July 10th. After that all free places attributed to particular universities be made available to all interested students from all COEUR Partner Universities. We plan to finish the second stage of recruitment on July 31th. In order to facilitate organizational issues and to guarantee the place. a down payment of €100 per registered student is necessary. The deadline for this early payment is July 15 for the first recruitment phase and August 15 for the second. Some notes: COEUR – Idea Generation Workshop is an intensive programme: you will be involved in activities from morning till night. The weather in Portugal is hot, daily highs of about 27C and nightly lows of 18C, but it may get over 30C even in September and it may cool down in the evening, so bring some sweaters. Arrival and Departure: We will meet in Lisbon at ISCTE-IUL on 19th September, at 10:00 a.m., for an introduction to the programme. After that a bus will take us to Cascais. The last day of COEUR will be the 24th September. After breakfast a bus will bring us back to Lisbon, where we plan to arrive at 11:00. COEUR will finish then but we invite you to explore our luminous city and our stunning beaches. You'll not regret, we promise! Welcome to Portugal! You will enjoy it!
