REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, JUNE 14, 2012
The Board of Trustees:
Approved minutes of the previous meeting. Received the monthly financial status report. Heard a report from Mrs. Kim Rogers, Business Manager, on budget development for the
fiscal year 2013.
Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts. Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of
school buses for special events.

Approved a request for authorization to accept the Blue Cross Blue Shield of MississippiFoundations Project Fit American grant awarded to Jefferson Middle School in the amount
of $25,327 for indoor and outdoor fitness equipment. Project Fit America is the sole source
provider for the Project Fit America Grant funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi
Foundation.
Approved a request for authorization for the Columbia High School Football Boosters tohost a Football Camp July 16-18, 2012, as a fund raiser.
Granted the Columbia High School Band permission to conduct its annual Band Camp on thecampus of Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, MS July 22-27, 2012; and
authorization to travel to Gulf Islands Waterpark in Gulfport at the conclusion of camp as a
reward for a week of hard work.
Authorized the District to mount granite markers commemorating Columbia High SchoolBands State Championship for 2008 and 2011 on the outside of the CHS Band
Hall/Herrington Hall.
Accepted a $1,000.00 donation from the Exxon Mobil Foundation as a result of Mr. EdwardHoughs volunteer work at Columbia Primary School.
Appointed Mr. Drew Foxworth to serve as School Board Attorney July 1, 2012 throughJune 30, 2013.
Gave first approval of revisions to School Board policies IHA/IHE Grading, Reporting,Promotion and Retention, IHF Graduation Requirements, and JFB
Valedictorian/Salutatorian/Class Rank/Academic Honors.
Gave first approval of proposed 2012-2013 Student/Parent Handbooks. Approved requests from certified/instructional district employees for authorization for their
children to attend Columbia schools for the 2012-2013 school year.
Released three (3) students to attend school in the district that their parents are employedfor the 2012-2013 school year:
Accepted three (3) students released from the Walthall County School District as tuitionstudents for the 2012-2013 school year.

Granted authorization to expend federal technology funds and technology replacementfunds budgeted for FY 2013 to implement the Wireless project at Columbia High School at a
cost of $33,236.35. As funds become available, the Jefferson Middle School portion of the
project will be completed at a cost of $2,945.99. Should E-Rate funding be approved for theproject, the District will be reimbursed 80% of the cost.
Approved the recommendation to amend the 2012-2013 District Salary Handbook to reflecta change in the title of coaching positions on the coaching supplement schedule.
Accepted employment resignations submitted by David Barber, teacher/coach at JeffersonMiddle School, effective May 25, 2012; Teresa Brewer, special education teacher assistant
at Columbia Primary School, effective May 25, 2012; and Amy Johnson, teacher at Columbia
Elementary School, effective June 30, 2012.
Approved the employment of Lamond Bridges as a custodian at Columbia Primary Schoolfor the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year, effective May 29, 2012; Zelma Magee as a
speech/language pathologist at an hourly rate of $30.41 for the 2012 SPED Extended School
Year (ESY) Program, effective June 5, 2012; Lori Beisel, Vickie Boone, Toni Floyd, Rhonda
Gaughf, James Harvey, Jeff Jennings, Rob Knight, Chaz Ladner, Chris Maul, Anne McCain,
Paul Pounds, Donna Rackley, Deedee Randall, Renee Riley, Teresa Seals, and Chris Turnage
as 21st
Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) 2012 Summer Workers at an hourly rate
of $25.00 plus benefits; and Ashley Boone, Natalie Bourn, Laurie Beth Boutwell, Renee
Broom, Taylor Gaughf, Dominic Graham, Aaron Maliden, Alex Martin, Jewel Martin, Bailey
Montgomery, Niki Patel, A.J. Prine, and Haley Sellers as 21st Century Community Learning
Center (CCLC) 2012 Summer Workers at an hourly rate of $9.00 plus benefits.
Approved the employment of the following personnel for the 2012-2013 school year: RyanStringer (CHS), Rebecca Sinclair (JMS), Andrea Brown (CES), and Donna Regan (CPS) as Local
Survey Committee Chairman and they be paid a supplement of $1,000.00 each for duties
performed after regular working hours; Gail Vanfleet (CPS) as MAAECF Chairman and she be
paid a supplement of $1,000.00 for duties performed after regular working hours; Tonya
Lawler Hankins as a teacher at Columbia Primary School; Lela Cox as a sixth grade English
teacher at Jefferson Middle School (replacing Melissa Jordan, interventionist) pending the
results a current background check as required by State law; DLeasha Abram as a sixth
grade math teacher at Jefferson Middle School (replacing Drew Inman) pending the results
of a current background check as required by State law; Marian Applewhite as a teacher at
Columbia Elementary School (replacing Tandi Wells) pending the results of a currentbackground check as required by State law; Kimberlie Sanders as a special education
teacher at Columbia Elementary School (replacing Tracey Ballard) pending the results of a
current background check as required by State law; Candice Thomas as School Nurse at
Columbia Primary School; Ashley Haddox as a teacher/cheer coach at Columbia High School
plus an additional ten (10) days be added to her contract; Jennifer Ratliff as a
speech/language pathologist at Columbia Elementary School pending the results of a
current background check as required by State law; Quentin Sullivan as a teacher/coach at
Jefferson Middle School (replacing David Barber) pending the results of a current
background check as required by State law; and Richard Curtis Smith as an assistant band
director (10-month) at Columbia High School (replacing Bill Thompson) pending completionof application and the results of a current background check as required by State law.

Was informed of the Mississippi School Boards Association Superintendent EvaluationInstrument, the 2013 Columbia High School Graduation ceremony is scheduled on May 24,
2013, the Public Hearing on the proposed 2013 fiscal year budget is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.,Thursday, June 28, 2012, and a Special School Board Meeting will be held on June 28
th
following the Budget Hearing for the purpose of approving payment of accounts for the
2012 fiscal year.
