Good News! Children’s Liturgy of the Word
will continue through the end of June! Sunday Mass is such an important part of family life, and we will continue to make our children feel welcome at mass, and help them participate and understand God’s Word. During the 9:15 mass we will dismiss the young people for their own “homily” and they will return around the time of the Creed. We will take a break from this ministry during July and Au-gust and pick up again after Labor Day.

Proposed “Mission Statement” for our Parish
Proposed “Mission Statement” for our Parish The Pastoral Council has been working on a brief description of our parish to help
identify who we are and to guide us in our pastoral planning. The Statement will
change as our parish changes in the future. After discussions during the past three
meetings, the Council reached consensus with this Statement:
Established in 1922, the parish family of St. John the Baptist Church wel-comes and invites all people of the community, especially those in need. Guided by the Holy Spirit we are sustained by the Sunday Eucharist, the Word of God and the Sacraments. All are encouraged to share their time, talent and treasure as we grow in love through our Catholic faith and the life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Would you like to give the Council feedback on the proposed Mission Statement? Does the mission statement reflect the values of our parish? Yes ____ No ____ Do you have any comments for the Council? ________________________________ (your name)
You can drop this in the collection basket, or send to the Parish Office.

ATTENTION EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
This past week all our Eucharistic Ministers were contacted
by Fr. Frank (email) and asked to request renewal for the
next three years. Please respond as soon as possible. Also,
all parish volunteers throughout the diocese are being re-
screened. EMs are asked to complete the volunteer packet
(copies are in the sacristy and the Parish Office). There is
no need to re-take Virtus.
Thank you to all who serve in this ministry!! .
.The Finance Committee met on Thursday evening,
April 27th.
Current Budget: The submitted and approved budget for
2016/17 anticipated total revenues of $787k and a loss of $95k. In
fact revenues are running at a stronger pace than anticipated both for
collections and Pre-school. Both of these trends are linked to a re-
newed spirit of family felt by parishioners.
In addition, extra efforts were made to curtail expenses and those
have been successful. There is reasonable hope the parish will finish
the fiscal year ( 8/31/17) with a breakeven bottom line. While quite
an accomplishment, it is not assured, thus we need to “keep our eye
on the ball.”
Budget Preparation for 2017-2018: The first attempt has resulted in a deficit of $47k. The
parish is required to submit a “break-even” budget. The Pastoral Council has advised Fr. Frank
that the parish bring on board a Youth Minister, as well as address other pastoral issues. We will
revisit the proposed budget at the next meeting, and work together where we can further reduce
expenses and at the same time meet the needs of our parish family.
Faith Direct: The Committee looked at our current on-line giving provider, FaithDirect,
and also WeShare, a provider used by some other parishes. The Committee concurred that we re-
main with FaithDirect. Also, Faith Direct will offer a webinar ( re some of the services they can
provide) for the parish staff. We will continue to “spread the word” about the convenience of
automated giving and its great benefit for parish support.

Update on the Gathering Inn
We have been advised by the Office of Risk Man-
agement in Rockville Centre that the parish needs to
take a closer look at the insurance coverage for
hosting the Gathering Inn. We will need to suspend
the Gathering Inn from June until the end of August,
and hope to resume after Labor Day once all the is-
sues are addressed.
