    AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS (AAP)The AAP is an organization of 62,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists committed to the attainment of optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.

    AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS SECTION ON EMERGENCY MEDICINEFounded in 1981, the AAP Section on Emergency Medicine (SOEM) is comprised of over 1,100 members with a special interest in issues related to the treatment and care of pediatric cases in the emergency department. The SOEM was formed to improve the care of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with acute emergency medical problems by stimulating research in the teaching of emergency care for children.

    Membership is open to Fellows of the AAP and approved Section Affiliates who are actively involved in emergency medicine. Specialty Fellows (individuals not board-certified in pediatrics, but those boarded in EM who have passed the PEM sub-boards) may apply for AAP and SOEM membership by meeting specified criteria approved by the AAP Board of Directors.

    The SOEM contributes to the mission of the AAP by providing quality educational programming for its members. The Sections involvement is national in scope with respect to its activities and its relationship with the AAP Committee on Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

    CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION CREDITThe American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

    The AAP designates this live activity for a maximum of 34.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

    This activity is acceptable for a maximum of 34.75 AAP credits. These credits can be applied toward the AAP CME/CPD Award available to Fellows and Candidate Members of the AAP.

    The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit from organizations accredited by ACCME. Physician assistants may receive a maximum of 34.75 hours of Category 1 credit for completing this program.

    Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

    This program is accredited for 34.75 NAPNAP CE contact hours; pharmacology (Rx) and psychopharmacology contact hours to be determined per the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) Continuing Education Guidelines.
