2013.2014 CANADIAN BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION
PR AIRIES/NWT REGION
REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY
Greetings,
Thank you for your tremendous support.
Philanthropy is not charity. Philanthropy is about building capacity. When you support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, you enhance our capacity to fund research that leads to more effective early detection; less invasive treatment protocols; increased awareness of the disease; improved quality of life for those affected by the disease; and increased survival rates.
With your support and the tireless efforts of our researchers, breast cancer mortality rates have fallen 43 percent since 1986. In the last year alone, we have seen that number improve by 1 per cent, proving the efforts you and the Foundation are making are playing an important role in making our vision a reality.
Greetings,
At the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Prairies/NWT Region, we are always looking toward the future – a future without breast cancer. In planning for tomorrow, we reflect on the past to ensure we are making the best decisions possible for those affected by breast cancer now, and in years to come.
We also look back to reflect on the progress made as a result of research funded by the Foundation, and to appreciate the efforts of so many who share in our vision.
When the Foundation staff and Board of Directors review the past year, we are filled with gratitude and pride. We are fortunate to have the support of so many groups and individuals; from corporate and community partners, event participants, donors, sponsors and fundraisers to volunteers and breast cancer survivors.

CANADIAN BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION - PNWT REGION | REPORT TO THE COmmUNITY 2013/2014
You are making it possible for us to reach women across all demographics with breast health and risk reduction messaging. Your efforts have funded research that identifies the role environmental factors play in the development of breast cancer, methods to determine individual risk levels and ways to reduce that risk. And, perhaps most importantly, your actions have aided the development of better diagnostic tools, allowing breast cancer to be diagnosed earlier and treatment to happen quickly and be more effective.
I am proud to be part of this community you support and believe in, and prouder still to be an active part of a movement making a difference in the lives of so many who have been or will be impacted by breast cancer.
Sincerely,Liz Viccars,CEO
This report exemplifies the successes possible when we share the same vision. Because of the support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation receives, we are able to fund many of the best and brightest scientific minds in breast cancer research. We are also able to partner with community groups to educate women and men about the disease, so they can be more breast health aware.
On behalf of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Prairies/ NWT Region staff and Board of Directors, thank you for helping us achieve so much. We are close to a future without breast cancer, but can’t stop now!
Sincerely,Shirley Forrest.
