People who walked with God started in Genesis…

ADAM & EVE

Gen 3:8Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

God looked for them.


ENOCH

Gen 5:24Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

So closely that he was taken to heaven.


NOAH

Gen 6:9Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.

Believed and followed God all the way.


ABRAM

Gen 17:1When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.

Faithful even to death. Known as a friend of God.

They ALL had a personal and intimate Walk with God.

WHY?This is the Walk God desires to have with man.

John 14:16-17

16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—

17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you.

God still wants to walk with us personally and intimately

What makes most human sense?


Walk by SIGHT

• Based on our human senses what we see, hear, think, feel, smell & taste.

• Based on past experiencesformal training, upbringing, what we read etc.

• Limitationthe more we live life, the more we realize how much we don’t know.

• Stressful

Walk by FLESH

• Based on satisfying our carnal desires / lust of the flesh

Gal 5:16-2119 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and

debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Gal 5:16-2516 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

HOW?

1. Acknowledge our helplessness Being born again /made alive in our spirit is the work of the Holy Spirit.

Gal 5:25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

2. Ask for His Leading We need the same enabling power of the Holy Spirit to live this life!

Gal 5:18 If you are led by the Spirit, then you are not under law.

When the Spirit is producing godly desires that are stronger than the flesh, then the commands of God are no longer a burden but a joy.

3. Activate faith in God’s Word Believe in what God said.

Rom 6:11 In the same way, count yourself dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

1 John 3:1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

John 16:33 “ I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

4. Act according to His prompting Do what you know is right.

Phil 2:13 For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.
