PRINCIPAL’S REPORT I often comment in this newsletter about how impressed visitors to Exeter High School are about how calm and settled the classrooms and schoolyard areas are. Two weeks ago, Mr Grant Armitstead who is the Principal at Reece High School, visited the school and he commented several times about how impressed he was in what he saw. On our tour of the school, students were working in classrooms in a diligent manner and at break times, they were interacting in a sensible and calm manner exactly the behaviours we now see and expect in our school. All parents of children who participated in the 2019 NAPLAN assessments will receive an individual report in the coming weeks. These reports will show each student’s results in the areas of numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation and these results are outlined on an achievement scale. As is always the case, NAPLAN only gives an indication of a student’s performance on the day of testing and the results should be interpreted with care. If you have any questions or concerns around your child’s NAPLAN results, please contact their Core teacher of that subject to discuss. Congratulations to all of our Winter Sports teams who have represented the school over the past two terms. Thank you also to the teachers involved in coaching the teams each week. We were also successful in winning our Grand Final matches in Football and Netball. Students in Grades 7-9 will have the opportunity to select their Option classes for 2020 in the coming weeks. Please have a conversation with your child around which courses they are intending to select and they will also have an options booklet

to bring home that details each subject and what is covered inthat course.

Parents have also been posted the annual Parent Satisfactionsurvey. Please take the time to complete this survey as we areable to use the results from this to guide our planning for thefuture year.

I would like to remind parents and students that once studentsarrive at school, they are required to remain on school groundsand must not leave until the end of the day. This includesstudents arriving by bus who must enter the school grounds assoon as they get off the bus. This is a major duty of care issueand I appreciate everyone’s support in this matter.

The senior netball team defeated Kings Meadows B (16 – 13)in a nail-biting affair at Hobbler’s Bridge. Some outstandingdefensive work from Gemma and Georgina managed toshut-down the opposition’s goal attack, while swift ballmovement and brilliant intercepts through the midcourt fromthe Exeter girls were rewarded with some outstanding goalshooting from Jaycee and Kristyn.

At Prospect Park, the senior football team were victoriousagainst Prospect High with a convincing score line of EHS13.18.96 def. PHS 3.5.23. A fantastic team effort set up thefollowing goal scorers: Malcolm (6), Declan (3), Jaiden (1), Liam(1), Samuel (1) and Charlie (1).

MY EDUCATION DAYMy Education at Exeter High School supports students inmaking important life choices around planning for their future. Ithelps them to identify their personal interests, values, strengths, opportunities and aspirations, and teaches them how to usethis knowledge to make decisions about their future learning, work and life opportunities. It has been shown that studentswho consider their interests and opportunities early on have aclearer picture about who they are and what they might liketo do. Research has shown that students who are activelyengaged in shaping their own life and career have:

A variety of activities were undertaken in each of the gradesas part of the EHS My Education Day on Thursday 12thSeptember.

EHS CAREER EXPOEducation is everybody’s business, including schools, parentsand the community. We are all working together to ensurestudents can be the best they possibly can be. Buildingcommunity partnerships ensures students can continue togrow as life-long learners. To this end, Exeter High School helda Career Expo in the gym and immediate carpark on Thursday12th September as part of our My Education program. Thepurpose of this event was to expose students to a wide rangeof potential careers and to gain a sense of the opportunities onoffer within our local and regional area.

Two sessions were held for senior and junior students wherethey were able to ‘roam’ the stalls and actively engage with thestallholders. A detailed quiz was completed by everyone as apart of this session.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to the following businesses/organisations who supported our Career Expo and gave uptheir time to do so:

• Improved relationships

• Higher aspirations

• An increase in confidence and self esteem

• Healthier lifestyle habits

• A more positive outlook on life.

• Grade 7 – Focus on resilience – using books and filmas stimulus, EHS amazing race and Career Expo

• Grade 8 – Focus on self-awareness and codeswitching (changing your body language and the wayyou speak in different situations), self-awareness inthe digital world and the Career Expo

• Grade 9- Career Expo, exploring My Futureswebsite, researching exhibitors at the Career Expoand resumes

• Grade 10 – Career Expo, activities based onnavigating year 11 and 12 courses, Transition Plansand How to cope with being under the ‘pump’.
