Abstract: We describe a new braconid species of the genus Orgilus (O. radialiformis Beyarslan, sp. n.) and give data for 19species of Microtypinae and Orgilinae from Turkey, of which 12 are new to the Turkish fauna. The new species is compared

with the related species Orgilus (O. ) radialis. Information on the distribution, host relationships of species and diagnosticcharacters are provided for each species.

Key words: Orgilus ; Orgilinae; Braconidae; new species; Turkey

    Introduction

The subfamily Microtypinae Szepligeti, 1908 and Orgi-linae Ashmead, 1900 are two small subfamilies of theBraconidae with a total of 373 (Microtypinae 19, Orgili-nae 354) species being listed in the latest version of theworld ichneumonoid catalogue (Yu et al. 2006).

Both the Microtypinae and Orgilinae contain par-asites of concealed lepidopterous larvae and accordingto apek (1970) the larval morphology and biologicalevidence indicate a relationship with the Orgilinae. Theknown hosts of Orgilinae and Microtypinae belong toColeophoridae, Gelechiidae, Tortricidae, Pyralidae andOecophoridae. Some species are candidates for biolog-ical or integrated control of such lepidopterous pestsas Grapholita molesta (Busck, 1916) and Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders, 1844) (van Achterberg 1987; Yuet al. 2006).

As the fauna of Turkey is concerned, Orgilinae andMicrotypinae must be regarded as insufficiently knownsubfamilies. Early studies of Orgilinae were carried outby van Achterberg (1985), who described a new Orgili-nae genus (Kerorgilus) from Turkey. The rst detailedfaunistic study of the Orgilinae fauna of Turkey wascarried out by Beyarslan (1996) in various regions of Turkey. He reported a total of 9 species, one of whichwas described as new to science and 8 of which werenew records for the Turkish Orgilinae fauna (Beyarslan1996)

The present paper gives records for 19 species of Microtypinae and Orgilinae from Turkey. These includeone species described as new to science and 12 speciesnew to the Turkish fauna.

    Material and methods

This study is based on specimens collected from different

parts of Turkey except southeastern Anatolia. The hostrecords and distributional information provided here foreach species come from Yu et al. (2006), Tobias (1986) andTaeger (1989) and were used for taxonomical examinationand identication of the materials. Diagnostic charactershave been mostly compiled from the original descriptionsof species. In some cases the information has come fromlabelled material identied by us. The identication anddrawings were made by means of a NIKON SMZ stereomi-croscope.

The types and other materials examined are depositedin the Zoological Museum of the Department of Biology,Trakya University (ZMTU).

    Results

Out of the 19 species gathered in 19792009 from dif-ferent localities in Turkey, Microtypus trigonus (Nees,1834), M. wesmaelii Ratzeburg, 1848 (Microtypinae),Kerorgilus zonator (Szpligeti, 1896), Orgilus (Orgilus)abbreviator (Ratzeburg, 1852), Orgilus (O.) festivus Papp, 1975, Orgilus (O.) hungaricus Szpligeti, 1896,Orgilus (O.) obscurator (Nees, 1812), Orgilus (O.)punctiventris Tobias, 1976, Orgilus (O.) punctulator (Nees, 1812), Orgilus (O.) radialiformis Beyarslan sp.n., Orgilus (O.) rugaster Tobias, 1964, Orgilus (O.)similis Szpligeti, 1896 (Orgilinae) were not previouslyrecorded from Turkey. Microtypus trigonus and Mi-crotypus wesmaelii have been reported to occur inTurkey (Yu et al. 2005) were misquotes. Consequently, the present record is actually the rst for Turkey.

Van Achterberg (1985) described Kerorgilus as anew genus to science from southeastern Turkey. Until

now, this genus has been represented with type-species,K. longicaudis from the Hakkari province on the south-eastern Anatolian side near Iran. We did not ndthis species during our study. But a second Kerorgilus

With this study, the number of Orgilinae in Turkeyhas increased from 12 to 24 species belonging to 2 gen-era. The subfamily Microtypinae is the rst record forTurkey.
