Principal’s Reflection
13 November 2019
Week 5, Term 4
Reflection Dear Families,
On Monday we celebrated Remembrance Day with a special service that was led by our students. During
the moving service we all observed one-minute silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered
in all wars and armed conflicts. Lest we forget.
I would like to inform the school community that we will be saying farewell to some staff over the coming weeks. This week we
farewell Wendy Manolis who has worked as an ISA at Holy Spirit for 14 years, we wish her well in her retirement. Next week we
farewell Tammy McMahon, an ISA at our school over the last two years. Tammy and her family will be relocating to USA. Our year
4/5 teacher, Ms. Kelsey Crowe, will be departing at the end of the school year to move interstate. We wish Wendy, Tammy and Kelsey
all the best on their new adventures. I would also like to announce that Ms. Brittany Lawler has been appointment as a classroom
teacher in 2020. Brittany will be visiting Holy Spirit later this term to meet the staff and students.
This week marks the half way point of our final term for the year. With the end of the year business upon us all I would like to bring
families attention to a number of whole school community events that are upcoming up so families can book them into their calendars.
We will be holding our school Christmas Carols night on 28th November, our School End of Year Mass, on Friday 6th, at 8:30am. Our
Year 6 Graduation mass and dinner in on the evening of Wednesday 11th December. Parents and friends are encouraged to come along
to these celebrations.
Next Friday we welcome the newest members of our school community with our 2020 Transition students having an orientation
morning. This morning provides a fantastic opportunity for the students to experience a little of what next year will be like for them.
We are currently still accepting enrolments for 2020 across all year levels and Community of Learners, please enquire through the front
office.
As part of encouraging positive behaviour at school we hold Reward Afternoons, every 5 weeks. Students who have been displaying
positive attributes over the last 5 weeks are rewarded with a special activity or event to acknowledge this behaviour. You could ask
your child what their class is doing on Friday.
God bless you all and keep you safe,
Mr. Simon Duffy
Principal

Education and are broadcast to the public on the local TV and
radio stations. In the event that government schools are closed,
Catholic schools will also be closed. Please listen to the radio or
TV for updates in relation to school closures and re-opening.
We will endeavour to keep families informed via our school
app, class dojo and email, but this will be dependent on the
availability of power and personnel.

PARENT PICK UP & DROP OFF AREA We are currently experiencing a number of traffic flow issues
with our Parent Pick Up and Drop off area at afternoon
dismissal. These issues are currently leading to traffic
congestion on Gsell street, traffic jams in the Parent Pick Up
area and dangerous collection of students.
In order to assist with overcoming these issues you can help in
the following ways:
Do not park in front of the school automatic gate prior to
the opening of the gates of an afternoon.
Do not park your car in the parent pick up
area and leave your vehicle there.
Do not park or sit idle on the road that runs
through our parent pick up area
If all the waiting bays are full please drive
through and park in the visitor car park or
drive around again.
Thank you for your cooperation with this im-
portant issue that relates to the work health and safety of the
children and staff here at Holy Spirit.

brim of the hat to assist the front office and teachers with the
return of missing hats to their owners.

LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOW Indonesian with Ibu Kirsty
This term in Indonesian; the year 5/6 classes have been learning
about fashion and clothing. We have explored how fashion can
reflect the social and cultural norms of a community and the
impact of modern-day influences. Students also investigated the
diversity of traditional dress in regions throughout Indonesia.
Everyone also did a great job role playing bargaining for clothes
at the markets!
In year 3/4 and 4/5; we have been learning about the names of
body parts and how to describe an injury or illness. Again,
students did a wonderful job role playing a visit to the doctors
using their Indonesian language!
