The European and Dutch economy have a strong reliance on banking lending. SME’s are a vital part of the economy (>99% of companies are SME’s, they provide 66% of employment, 58% of added value) We have to find ways to fill the so called bank lending gap to SME’s. Alterna,ve finance can be efficient and can deliver high returns and in just three years the sector has grown rapidly from literally zero. Banks need to increase compe66on in the SME loans market in a bid to ensure further growth in a key part of the economy. Banks need to start coopera6ng with new innova6ve startups that are changing the way tradi6onal banking func6ons. This can be done by partnering with alterna6ve finance plaGorms (like RBS did recently) or by partnering with startups that empower technology that enable SME’s to get financed.
