Who would be the audience for your media product?

Page 2: 13) audience

In relation to my research…

• The results that I collected from the questionnaires showed me that my target audience is aged 14-19, male & female.

• They would pay £1-3 for a magazine and would prefer it to be released monthly.

• The most popular genre was music magazines.

• I put the results of my questionnaire into graphs so I could clearly see the results and therefore find out who to target my product at.

• Also through research of similar magazines I have found that my magazine genre would be targeted at white middle class people due to the style of music and price range of my product.

• Although my magazine has been designed for a specific group of people it may also reach other people through the use of online services and advertisements.

• As my audience has quite a vast age range I had to make sure it was suitable for all consumers which are going to ideally buy the product.

• I had to not include any inappropriate material due to the large proportion of younger (14-18) audience.

• Also bright, eye-catching colours needed to be used as to get the audiences attention, I took inspiration for a colour scheme from ‘NME’ magazine which uses bold colours but has an overall house style as not to make it over-complex and distracting.

• Although my magazine is targeted at 14-19 years old it may reach a younger target audience as this often happens with music magazines and their target audience falls in age, even if this did occur I would not change my product to target a new age group. My research found that I should target 14-18 year olds which are white middle class, although this is overall true there are some exceptions.

• A student could come from a white middle class (C1) family but when they are living at university most students are classed as unemployed (E).

• This is because social class is defined by looking at the family’s employment/income rather than the individual person.

• This would not fit my target audience as I found in my research but they would still take up a percentage of the products consumers.

Online..• My target audience which are all in their teen years are the age group which use the

internet most, this can be used to an advantage when trying to target my audience.• Social networking sites are becoming increasing popular for people across the globe

especially with the success of Facebook in the last several years.• As shown on the graph below Europe use Facebook the most with around 223.4

million users, as my product would be most likely distributed in the UK possibly other European countries this information is vital.

• I can use social networking sites including Facebook to market my product, by putting advertisements on these sites which link to my magazine online sales will most likely increase.

• As Facebook is a well known and trusted brand/company therefore if my magazine is advertised here it will be signified as a product which people should trust.
