Welcome back everyone! Hope you are all relaxed and refreshed after the two week break.
It’s hard to believe that we are beginning Term 4 and that it’s only 11 weeks to Christmas.
This term will be a busy one for us all at Lightning Reef.
October is Walk To School Month and our walking school
buses have had a very successful start with many students
walking to school each day. Pick up points are listed in the
newsletter.
This Friday, October 13th we have our performance by Iron and Clay. Cost for this perfor-
mance is $3.50. Please pay this money to the office as soon as possible, if you have not al-
ready done so. Also on Friday will be our Swimming Carnival at the Eaglehawk pool. This
Carnival is a celebration of the great work all students have done in their swimming les-
sons. Parents and friends are welcome to come and watch. Cost for the carnival is $5.00.
These costs may be covered by your CSEF if you are eligible.
On Monday, 16th October a healthy breakfast will be served to all students. This breakfast
is sponsored by Bendigo Bank, Eaglehawk and we thank them for their support.
Tuesday, 17th October will be a Pupil Free Day as all staff complete their second day of
Berry St. training.
As you can see, the first couple of weeks are already busy. Other events for the term will be
listed in the newsletters during the coming weeks. We also would like to welcome six new
students this term. Welcome to Kyle, Hannah, Emily H, Matika L, Zahara L and Lilly J.
We also welcome back Raine Q. We hope you enjoy your time at Lightning Reef Primary
School.
Hope Term 4 is a good one for all families.
Kim Kirkpatrick.

Grade Prep W
On Tuesday Grade Prep went to the Capital Theatre to watch Grug. Mrs Whyte, Mrs Wells and Kristie came with us. We went on the bus. Trystan saw his mum on the bus. We climbed the tower and had our food in the park. We then watched Grug. After Grug we had a picnic lunch in the park then we had a walk in the gardens. We saw lots of bats and plants. Then we went swimming.

Dear Parents
Thanks so much for getting behind our ‘Walk to School Bus’ program for October.
It was a great start to the month with many children joining the bus early this morning. It was also great to be able to pick chil-
dren up along the way.
Just a quick reminder of where the bus starts so you can be on the lookout as it passes your house, or you can meet the bus at
the corner of your street.
Bus 1.
Starts at the corner of Jobs Gully Rd. and Bright Street.
This bus turns right onto Nelson St, left on Green St, right on Pearce St and left on Lounden St.
It then turns right when it reaches Holdsworth Rd and continues on to the lights. The bus crosses at the lights and goes to school
through the carpark.
The bus will leave Jobs Gully Rd. sharply at 8.00am
Bus 2
Starts at the corner of Eaglehawk Rd. and Holdsworth Rd.
This bus travels all the way along Holdsworth Rd. to the lights.
Crosses at the lights and enters the school through the carpark.
This bus leaves sharply at 8.15am
Bus 3
This bus leaves from the Manchester Arms Hotel on the corner of Eaglehawk Rd.
The bus then travels down Havilah Rd and turns left onto Holmes Rd. This bus travels along Holmes Rd until it reaches the
school crossing.
This bus enters the school through the gates at the front.
This bus leaves sharply at 8.10am
We would like another bus to start at the end of Holdsworth Rd, at the front of the shop.
If you can help with this bus please see Miss Ballard or Mrs. Perry.
Reading and Homework Club
Reading Recovery
As we are moving to our last term, if your child is a part of the Reading recovery program could you please make an appoint-ment to meet with either Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Perry or Mrs. Peirce-Whyte.
This is very important for your child's support work
Reading Club
Reading Club began yesterday and there were very few children in attendance. Please make sure if you are not able to listen to your child's reader at home that they attend reading club each day. This is very important to their progress. Rewards are given daily for children who attend Reading Club. Additional rewards are given for those who have already read their books at home. Any one who wants to pop in and help with this program would be very welcome. All our children really like reading to an adult
Homework Club
Homework Club begins again this Friday at 3.30pm. Children need to be collected promptly at 4.30pm. Please ensure your chil-dren are ready for homework club this week.
Reading at Home.
Reading at home is a very important part of your children's education. Please make sure your child has their reader at school every single day. It would be a fabulous support if you could provide time for your child to read at home, and then you initialled the reading log/paper to show that your child has practised at home. it is essential to your child's reading growth that they prac-tise as much as they can. We would really appreciate your support with this. To monitor this program successfully it is im-portant that readers are at school every day.

Healthy Breakfast Morning Monday the 16th of October
A well-balanced Breakfast is always an excellent way to start the day. Breakfast gives children the energy their bodies need to
help their brain work well at school. Breakfast eaters learn and concentrate better, they also tend to be healthier, get sick less
often and miss fewer school days. Eating breakfast regularly is also associated with a healthy body weight.
In association with Walk to School Month, Lightning Reef will be holding a healthy breakfast
morning on Monday the 16th of October in the gym foyer from 8am – 9am. All children at
Lightning Reef Primary school are welcome to attend the morning.
Please note this breakfast is just for students.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our school and we hope to see you there!
